I suppose. But wouldn't the relationship between Maleshep and Ashley have the same issues as the one between femshep and Kaidan?
Where's the emotion

Well I liked the Kaidan romance.
Yeah, me too. That particular Femshep was funny in that I did not take any flirt option with crew, I kept her single in ME1 and then waited for someone to make a move on her after that. Nobody in ME2 bit. Finally Kaidan did in ME3 while they were out to lunch. I thought it was pretty decent.

It's hard to have issues with a piece of plywood.
I am assuming your talking about Ashley.

Ashley has no shortage of personality.
Some people might not like her personality, but she isn't bland or boring.

I do have to admit that having a relationship with Liara is a bit awkward after saying: "I thought Asari needed other species to reproduce."
Liara: "Think, Shepard. Our species would have died out long ago if we had to depend upon other species for reproduction. It was only after we discovered interstellar flight and made contact with other species that we discovered that we could reproduce with them."
Shepard: "I should go."

Ashley misses half the game regardless if you kill her or not. She spends half of it kissing the floor of the observation deck. And thus it is why she is killed in ME1: "Sorry Ash, it's better this way. If you knew what they did to your character in ME3 you'd understand."
lol. so true. poor ash.
The only emotion Kaidan shows is near the end of the game. Which totally sucks. I hope next Mass effect has some better LI choices
when kaidan said, "i can't lose you again" on Earth, i admit i teared up a bit. sadly, though, it was the first time i saw convincing romantic emotion from him. fortunately, i headcanon most of his personality, so it all works out in the end.

It could always be more awkward...Liara: "Think, Shepard. Our species would have died out long ago if we had to depend upon other species for reproduction. It was only after we discovered interstellar flight and made contact with other species that we discovered that we could reproduce with them."Shepard: "I'm still not convinced. Maybe we should test it out to be sure."
yep she went there. lol . Okay a noob question what do you mean you headcannon most of his personality.

I replace in-game dialogue with dialogue I feel gives Kaidan more personality (e.g., "I was pretty spectacular if I remember right." --> "That night was the first time I realized I wanted to live. Not because of duty or honor, but because I had to come back to you."). Just minor tweaks that make me cringe a little less at his dialogue. I also add elements to his back story that give his character more depth, like stories about what he was up to during the events of ME2 (to explain his glaring absence in the game) and stories that explore his externally-subdued-yet-internally-emotive nature.

"I'm still not convinced. Maybe we should test it out to be sure." That's a real line? ![]()
But that exchange I had to lampoon for my "What did you do in the Mass Effect Trilogy Today?" series....

Nonsense when I started this post I wanted everyone's input. And I got all I asked for and more. Keep them coming.

Regards emotional payoff, two things stand out for me on a femshep, and both are trilogy Liara romances.
One is the LotSB romance section after defeating the Shadowbroker, and the second is the scene before Chronus. Both immensely well done I think.

That part is a little weird. I think it's mostly a cutesy test of how well you know her and if you can pick out the poetry she likes. Kaidan, I think, doesn't have any obvious enough gimmicks to make something similar applicable to him.

Because less than 20% played femShep in ME2 so they didn't bother with femShep friendly content. Instead they cut it. Jacob cheats on Shepard. Thane dies on Shepard.
It would have been fair to have Miranda cheat on Shepard, and Jack die on Shepard, too.
You know... for lols.

That just sucks. So femshep gets nothing for being faithful to Kaidan in ME2?

From what I've seen and played, Hale did a bit better in ME1, but once ME2 and ME3 started, FemShep always seemed to sound vaguely pissed off, pretty much everytime. When Shep was vaguely pissed off, it worked. But when he had scenes like the interrogation in Thane's or the soft romantic dialogue, Meer did a better job. This continued in ME3, When FemShep was romancing someone she never seemed to be enjoying herself like BroShep

They had coaches. From a woman's perspective, I thought Hale did a bang up job in ME2 and ME3. But like they said in the interviews, sometimes Hale read her lines first, sometimes in response to the other lines. Same with Meer.
First with femShep you're dealing with an alpha female, not a beta female. This is a very difficult thing to script. They didn't have any available alpha males except for Thane. Thane's romance was a "rene-mance." It was only available on the renegade dialogue. Thane still loved his dead wife, but Shepard talked him into one last affair before he died. It was more lust than love. But they did love each other. Then a possible cure for Kepral's syndrome came available, but Thane didn't take it. Two people who had the power of life and death in their hands. It wasn't like the rest of the team. The others (except for Samara and Zaeed) all needed permission.
And Kaidan was so blah. And then there was Jacob? Seriously? femShep is looking for an alpha male. Anything else is just a fling. There were no alpha males on the team except for Thane and Zaeed.
She seemed to enjoy herself with Liara.
