If that ponytail was shoulder length instead of long like the picture, it wouldn't have been any more difficult or clippier than the human elf and dwarf hairstyles, I don't get it. They made such poor design decisions for the Qunari styles and then didnt even add depth, volume, or texture.

Shorten that ponytail to a viable length, and that's pretty much how I want my character to look.

Yes that's the style that would have been perfect for my Valpur too. I don't need it that long, just shorter ponytail and it should be okay animation wise :) Other races have some hairstyles with ponytails too so why not qunari?

The lack of texture so far is what really has me the most baffled, the limited hair styles would look better if they had some texture on them. Heck I'd be planning on having a qunari with the cornrows (thats what they're called isn't it?) if they didn't look like little blobs of playdough just stuck on and looked like they were braided instead that in my opinion would have made them look a lot better. I'm really hoping that it looks better when I have the game in hand.

To be fair, it's kinda to early to judge on the texture because it IS a demo which could've been an older build. So there's still time for them to work on the hair textures atleast

That's what I'm hoping for, I haven't been keeping much up to date on the videos unless I know they're showing off the CC since I want to avoid most other things in the game so I don't know how far in the process the game was when the video with the qunari in the CC came out. I am hopeful they'll have better textures in game but it is still something I am worried about.

I've been wondering the same thing...

At this point, it makes more sense to base our opinions on what Bioware has shown us - otherwise we're setting ourselves up for even more disappointment.

When Cameron Lee addressed our concerns in this thread, he didn't give ANY sort of indication they were working to improve hair textures. I think it's safe to say if they actually were doing something to make the female qunari hair look better, *someone* would have said somehing by now to placate us.

He didn't address the textures because it's a demo, not everything is fully polished in demos

I get that, but we don't know how old that demo build was (it could have been nearly the final iteration). And the fact that he didn't say anything along the lines of "but remember guys, it's just a demo and the female qunari hair styles, in particular, aren't fully polished yet" makes me think there won't be a noticeable improvement... I could be wrong, but a smarter person than me once said it's "better to be a realistic pessimist than a delusional optimist". *shrugs*

New images of the female qunari.

Looking at these I think I can just about live with the hair textures, which is honestly a relief. It's still a real shame about the lack of good hairstyles though.

Agreed and agreed.  The textures were my major concern and thankfully, my hunch that we weren't looking at the final product was correct.  :D

Thanks for posting these.

It's kind of hard to tell if the texture of the hairstyle has been improved based solely off of an in-game screenshot... I'll reserve judgement until I can see what it looks like up-close, during the cinematic lighting of the CC.

Also, look at the hair on the side of her head... It looks completely flat and textureless. And the way the cornrows sprout out of the top of her head looks totally unnatural, too... Another person said it best: they look more like tootsie rolls stuck to the top of her head.

For reference, here is what cornrows should actually look like:

(Awesome, right?!)

In my opinion, Sten's cornrows from DA:O are still way better than what I'm seeing in the female Qunari pic... But everyone has different opinions! :)

Edit: I kind of agree with what was said about being able to live with the hair textures, though... I re-watched the in-game footage of the Qunari Mage with the mud bun and, from the back, it didn't look too terrible... I might be able to complete a playthrough with it, although I'm always going to think of what could have been:

Tbh I don't know if it's been improved or not.

It could have been improved, It could just look better in game than we thought it would or it could just look better in that shot and that lighting than it normally would. Hopefully it's one of the first two possibilities, if it is I am a lot less worried. Not saying this makes me happy about the qunari hair options, It's just nice to know that It probably isn't as bad as I thought. If the mud bun is the same I might actually have more options than i thought I did.

Agreed! :)

My main concern is how the hair will look during cut scenes... I don't want another Mass Effect moment where I create a character that I think will look gorgeous in-game only to be horrified at her hideousness during every conversation :P

My goodness that was bad! You couldn't skip that long as hell sequence in the beginning of ME3 and there was all sorts of lighting going on there making it hard to tell what your character looked like normally. It wasn't till the mars mission when the lighting gets more normal that I would realise how hideous my creation looks and would have to restart. I think I went through this with my femshep about 15 times!  <_<

So no I certainly don't want to go through anything like that again.

I am also still slightly worried about cut scenes. The cut scene lighting is meant to be more or less how it looks in the CC, so there is a worry but I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I'd just like to add that I would very very happily pay for DLC to give additional hair options. I've been looking forward to playing female Qunari ever since that concept art back in the day (its been posted here a few times) showing the male and female Qunari with long white hair. Even short/medium options would be nice, better than the buzzcut options which seem to be all we have now.

Ugh, no matter the textures, I don't like the style. Much too short, silhouette-wise she may as well have no hair at all.

No one is allowed to have an opinion that disagrees with what you think is ugly? Good luck with that.

She's not ugly, by the way. I find her quite fascinating in appearance.

Gotta love how delicate her ears seem compared to the nose and horns, so cute.
