Yeah but are you as excited to play them now as you were before you saw the three hair options?

I am

I don't. I see people's negative reaction to seeing the CC options. I wanted to play one too before I knew how limited and ugly our options were. I can definitely see female Qunari being the least chosen character.

I've seen plenty of people still wanting to play Female qunari myself

Yes..

Color me surprised. The fact that you used a Saskia hair mod for your elven Warden led me to believe you had good taste when it comes to female hairstyles. There's no way you can honestly look at the three options Bioware gave the female Qunari and say they look good, especially in comparison to the level of detail, volume, texture, and variance the other races have access to when it comes to their hairstyles..

Yes.

That's because you spend so much time in here

Could you point me to the review or website or blog or whatever that's praising the female Qunari CC options and getting people exited about it?

I'd love to see that as well, Snook. If you look outside of the forums (specifically on Twitter) it seems like there are a LOT of other people who complained about the female Qunari hair options when that infamous CC demo was released. The furor has died down, but I expect many, many more people will complain post-launch, when they realize how limited their choices are.

I like to think I do. I just don't consider it the be-all-end-all that would be cause to call off character plans.

Seriously, don't talk to me about taste.

No, but you could poke your head into a character planning, role playing, whatever thread and see that there are still plenty of people planning on a Qunari.

So until you have statistics, don't make broad assumptions like 'almost nobody wants to play them.'

My absolute favorite (heavy sarcasm) was the "hairstyle" Mike Laidlaw referred to as "and this one looks as though she fell off a hay wagon and broke her horn! Hur hur hur!"

After seeing the disapointing female Qunari hair options, I'm going to go into playing the game with low expectations. That way, I can be pleasantly surprised if things turn out better than I anticipated! :)

Good for you, but I'm afraid it's too late for me. I can't help but get hyped. Besides, the only things that really bug me are all things I know I can get past. The hair styles may be limited, but I believe my qunari can still come out looking good enough for it to not bother me too much. Perhaps if they do release a dlc with more hair styles, they can bundle it with other content as well, such as something that can let you edit your inquisitor's appearance. After all, what would be the point of giving me more options if I'd have to start over in order to take advantage. That way I'd feel better about paying for it. Wouldn't seem as much like me literally paying for someone else's mistake which is exactly what it is. I may not like the romance options right now, but I may still be pleasantly surprised. I hope so at least. I can also always have her go gay. Josephine seems like a better option than Iron Bull or Beefcakes. As for customizing armor, they could fix that with a dlc with a bunch of dyes in it. Yes, they can release their apology dlc with dyes, more qunari hair options, and some means of editing character appearance in-game. That would be awesome.  B)

Sorry, Snook. I was listening to Indira Varma's VA video she recorded for Bioware and was subconsciously channelling my inner Vivienne. Didn't mean to come across as being so condescending! I'm honestly glad that there are plenty of people who are not only willing but excited to play as a female Qunari! I hope that Bioware will see that it's a popular gender/race combo that should be given access to more CC options in the sequel (or, hopefully, in a DLC!) :)

Really and yeah horn dongles should have their own color slider. I feel like i'm at the eye doctor when looking at the qunari hair options.

"A, B, A, B..."-

"um A?"

Don't make a small amount of content look like more than it is. ugh.

Omg, the epicness! It's Aang! I love you, and seriously, don't feel bad for the rant earlier. If they are going to grow as developers, they need to understand exactly how we feel about this nonsense. B)

Still really into the Female Qunari. Gonna play her side by side with my female dwarf. Really love the half broken horns, and while not a huge variety I think the hair is fine, glad they gave us tons of horn options. I think some people won't play them, but human is the most popular option with the vast majority who will play the game and just heard of it. And I like that each race, other than them, kinda has a style to it. I am sorry that a large number of people on here are disappointed, but I hope everyone enjoys it when it comes out regardless of the race they chose to play.

,,,You think the hair is fine? I'm sorry, but are you just thinking in terms of the 3 styles or are you including how horribly rendered and untextured they are.

The options look entirely unfinished compared to the other races, which is really not fair.

It's confirmed that fem!qunaris only have 4 very short hairstyles by Mike Laidlaw on twitter and that these hairstyles are locked. It's also likely that male qunaris will have 4 hairstyles as well.

Link to stills of every style: http://imgur.com/a/7NrU6

One closer look of the corncrow to bun:

tumblr_ncobhiJVcV1sx6wc6o5_500.jpg

Two human hairstyles for the comparison:

Spoiler

Why this is an issue?

  1. The lack of options! Every hairstyle doesn't even come with every horns. Even the hornless qunari has only those 4 options (Also the hornless qunari has small craters/stubs that bothers some). Other races have 20+ options.
  2. The lack of quality of hair textures and mesh, they look flat and the hairstyles aren't as good quality as other races have. The quality isn't nowhere near quality of otherwise broad CC.
  3. Qunaris in previous DA games, comics and concept art all have white/grey hair that's very different from these options we have now for hairstyles. Even the tarot card for qunari Inquisitor has long white hair.
  4. You can't hide bad hairstyle with helmet since qunari's don't have those.

Here is some requested hairstyles for the qunaris people here have come up that shouldn't have much of clipping issues (they are awesome, thanks guys!):

Qunari hair we didn't get

Qunari hair we didn't get part 2

Qunari hair we didn't get part 3

Qunari hair propositions

More qunari hair propositions

Hair propositions from mods

Many of these styles don't seem like they'd have clipping issues since they aren't long nor they touch the horns. So they should be possible to be animated. These hairstyles are simply gorgerous and it's sad that our qunaris hair as glorious as in these pics.

What people are hoping for from BW regarding the issue?

  1. BW team to improve quality of current hairstyles before release.
  2. Patch that would introduce more options
  3. DLC that would introduce more options.
  4. Simply hairstyles that have as good quality as other races and maybe are as long as other races have (shoulder-lenght). Options that have more variety and look better.

Join us on twitter with hashtag #HairForTheQun and tag @bioware with it as well!

Let's keep talking here as well to keep this topic up so it doesn't get forgotten post-release when devs are starting to think of patches and DLC's :)

EDIT: Edited so the post summarizes opinions from the thread towards the issue and is easier to read ^^

You mean helmets turn invisible if a qunari wears them?

The cornrows are technically long hair and I like them, they're such a practical style for long hair that still looks pretty good. Nearly every boxer/fighter wears em. Of course they're unimpressive technically but none of the hairs are really.

I think they are pretty cool. They really didn't seem less textured than other people's hair and youtube kinda proved that the whole game's fuzzyness has more to do with Youtubes low res than the actual game, it only has looked really polished the last week or so.

But yeah. I like them.

You know it might be the grey making the flaws more obvious, but I wouldn't blame youtube.

It just seemed really weird people would talk about the high rez, or it's capabilities and how beautiful, and still when I watch Twitch or Youtube they seem pretty fuzzy and off. The Youtube low res seems to explain why all the videos seems pretty untidy. But, I don't find them bad at all, neither the resolution nor the styles. I like them, several people seem to not mind, and several people do. And that's okay.

I mean there are different tastes for a reason.

I think they're referring to other parts of the game. The lighting is genuinely gorgeous even compared with next gen games. The hair... I'd be surprised if anyone talked about it as beautiful high rez capability even if it came out 5 years ago.

I wish I hadn't gotten so excited about playing a female Qunari when they were first announced. I'm trying to decide whether to make a female Qunari and make her as freakishly ugly as possible like "ugly Shepard" or to skip it and go with male Qunari.

Quanari won't be able to wear helmets in-game. Instead they get some kind of unique war-paint type stuff like the kaddis they put on the mabari in Origins. Difference is this stuff is supposedly toxic to other races.

No helmets are unwearable as qunari you can't even equip them.

Well the bun is technically long hair as well but problem here is lack of tecture and volume, everything looks flat especially in top of qunaris head, no matter what hairstyle you pick from the straight front qunari looks bald with one or two lines of color on her/his head.

I know and it's not only a decade old but from the same company. :( I agree with whoever said it looked like the Qunari got passed off to an intern.
