I know and it's not only a decade old but from the same company.
I agree with whoever said it looked like the Qunari got passed off to an intern.
Sadly enough, I agree too, but it doesn't just look like the work of an intern, but a bad one at that. ![]()

I will again point to this...
KotOR 2004-DA:I 2014

Yup. Notice the roots. Hair doesn't just sprout out like mushrooms. Especially when pulled back, the root should start off very very fine. Older games usually paint it on the texture of the head's scalp and it can be blended in into the hair mesh. It's a very cheap method that's completely free performance wise. I have no idea why dai doesn't seem to be able to use this technique. Dai hair is atrocious and it's not a subjective matter.

Somehow the hair seems to get worse with each game. Not only does it not improve in texture and model quality as technology improves and more powerful engines are used, but the styles get worse and worse like they were made by a team of people completely bald from birth who'd had hair described to them but had never seen it.
lol that's subjective though. Apart from the Marilyn Manson cut
Yes.
Out of curiosity, do you like any of the styles available?
A big issue, I think, is that with only three available hairstyles, many players aren't able to find anything they want, or anything that fits a character concept they want to play. That some people are okay with the options does not mean that the lack of options is not still a problem. There are many possible worlds in which the three options could have been something you personally detested. It's just the luck of the draw.

Wow, I see everyone who suggests that hair isn't a huge issue is being accused of being a troll. Oh, before I go, I forgot to "troll" by mentioning that I don't think Qunari hair options are a big issue. ![]()

It's not that the hairs are bad, it's that there isn't enough diversity in the hairstyles. Nobody is saying to change or get rid of the ones they have in, just to add more so people can add more of a personal touch to their character. That is the point of character customization after all. :/
The cornrows are technically long hair and I like them, they're such a practical style for long hair that still looks pretty good.
I have read every single post on every single page and I don't remember ANYONE calling anyone a troll.Wow, I see everyone who suggests that hair isn't a huge issue is being accused of being a troll. No one ever said that lack of hair options was "game breaking" but plenty of people here have said that it will prevent them from playing as a female Qunari, which is kind of a big deal because that was one of the most hyped and anticipated of the playable races.
And actually it IS a huge change: in every single example of concept art, comic book artwork, and in-game depiction the Qunari have been displayed as having LONG white hair. Now? We don't even get a medium length hairstyle. It's bullshit.
And I'm grateful that the devs have said they will look into adding more hairstyles post-launch, but I don't understand why I have to wait until the game comes out to have some simple, easy questions answered (like why we can't have a separate slider for horns/hair). It's something that would take the devs a couple minutes to explain.
And, if adding new hairstyles is too hard, they could appease a lot of us by making a couple changes to the CC (like letting hornless female Qunari use the other races' hairstyles). I don't understand why Patrick Weekes wrote a veritable novel explaining the healing mechanics changes but we can't even get a single sentence explaining the baffling decisions made revolving around female Qunari hairstyles.
One hypothesis I have is that the devs know they screwed up, but they're not allowed to say so, so they're not going to bother defending something that they weren't even happy about and will instead just try to fix it later.

Yup. I definitely agree with the first part of your hypothesis. Especially since the devs were just like "sorry guys, we're shipping with the hair options that were shown. That's it" and not like: "what are you guys talking about? We devoted just as much time and energy to female Qunari hairstyles as we did for the other races! And everyone here at Bioware thinks those three hairstyles look awesome and give enough variety to appease all our fans!"
(They couldn't say that with a straight face because it's obviously untrue)
The only aspect of your hypothesis that I question is whether they actually WILL try to fix it later... Neither in the Mass Effect series nor the previous two Dragon Age games did Bioware bother releasing a patch/DLC containing more hairstyles, even though they were criticized for their hair from the very beginning :/
I'm going to just keep praying to the Maker and sacrificing nugs in the hope that Cameron Lee/Mike Laidlaw will do something to fix this problem
Well, we probably won't get hair that looks good in an objective sense, but raising the texture work to the mediocrity of the rest of the hair and adding a few more styles shouldn't be too hard.
Of course, that'd be double the work for qunari thanks to also needing to make all the horn sets work with the new hair, so this might not be done for a while.
OMG. Big helmet + qunari head = problem with hairs solved.
P.S. Ye ye release game in 2019 because qunari hair options and makeup for male qunari not like in my crazy dreams))
It's can be easilly solved by patch after release date.

It depends on how they do the hair. I've done 3d model work and putting the hair on a head with horns takes a few hours if you're a perfectionist like me. Of course there's trouble shooting etc. but with a team their size it wouldn't take more than say a month. If however, they want to do more complicated hair, like in the concept art and a lot of that sort of style it'll take longer. Hawke style hair (male and fem) would take almost no time at all. I'm oversimplifying and I don't know what tools they use, but it's not something that would take more than 3 months, and that's if they don't focus on it. Horns are hard to work with if you don't want the hair running through the horns, so if that's the problem it could take longer to create more hairstyles. That also might be the reason we got the hair we did, they may have wanted to put more in but couldn't due to clipping. But that seems like a stretch since it wouldn't be an issue for stub-horned qunari.
Um, Qunari can't wear helmets in DA:I. They can only wear "toxic face paint" which gives them stat boosts, like a helmet would.
Plus, I NEVER have my female characters wear helmets because I like seeing their hair.
Same here, The only time I wore helmets (toggled on) was in ME3 because I loved the Dragon Age inspired armor.
I think they are pretty cool. They really didn't seem less textured than other people's hair and youtube kinda proved that the whole game's fuzzyness has more to do with Youtubes low res than the actual game, it only has looked really polished the last week or so.
But yeah. I like them.
Okay then... Not sure if I can even wrap my head around that statement, but I won't argue.
All I'll say is I hope I can make my qunari look tolerably palatable as a blonde.
I wish I hadn't gotten so excited about playing a female Qunari when they were first announced. I'm trying to decide whether to make a female Qunari and make her as freakishly ugly as possible like "ugly Shepard" or to skip it and go with male Qunari.
Yeah I got myself all hyped to play beautiful sassy lady qunari and I look at that hair and I'm just I can hear her going hell no in my head and I can't. ![]()
Also when people say they're playing a qunari...are they talking about males or females? I was defintely no to male qunari but now after the hair reveal I'm more likely to play a male qunari than a female one. At least wax bald doesn't make me sigh so hard on a male. (Seriously no fuzz. If you must be stuck with short styles why on earth aren't some buzzcuts/fuzz? Why give all those styles to the freaking elves but not spare one for qunari? Absurd).

I personally am planning to go with a female qunari. She's not gonna be able to look how I wanted at all, but hopefully, if we keep complaining and give this issue loads of attention(like now) we'll get more styles added later in either a patch or dlc. It's really all we can do.
This is a particularly long thread though, and it isn't dying down. If this level of obvious dissatisfaction doesn't get them to act, nothing will. I say rant on!

When I did a forum search for the word Qunari last night, it was more male than female Qunari being mentioned as potential characters but on neither gender did people expand on being excited about how their Qunari would look or planning it in detail like you see with the other races. ![]()
I think quite a few people will play male Qunari since bald looks better on them and they seem to have better skin texture and horn/skin blending. I'll still play a male Qunari at some point because I want to experience the story differences but I wont be excited about his looks, and he'll look the same as every other male Qunari.

Yeah I'm still hoping for hair mods ;_;
It does. The default male Qunari they use doesn't look bad at all. I'll probably have my male qunari romance Dorian.
BioWare just shot themselves in the foot.
I don't know how much the rest of you know about Qunari culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in Orlais where you can become successful by being an a$$hole. If you screw someone over in Par Vollen, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.
What this means is that gamers, after hearing about this, are not going to play Dragon Age as any race, nor will they purchase any of BioWare's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but BioWare has alienated an entire market with this move.
BioWare, publicly apologize and add more Qunari hair options or you can kiss your business goodbye!!

I refuse. I will play as female. They will not ruin this for me! I won't let them.
The mohawk is more bearable than the others, so I'll probably go with it.
Besides, Beefcakes is startin to grow on me, and I've decided I may consider just having her be gay/bi. I will make this work darn it!!! ![]()
Oh, who am I kidding, the more I look at it, the more I want to be an elf. I'll have to rethink my whole character! I need a hug. ![]()

I honestly didn't know that there were people who thought headfuzz looked good. I much prefer having a completely shaven head to one that's kinda shaven but still not actually smooth, which to me feels like the worst of both worlds.
Then again, I was planning on playing an elf for my first and possibly only Inquisitor, so...

But she's not even a beefcake
she's gloriously thick (another reason I wanted to play her. Even if she still is suffering BW noddle arm syndrome). But I can't see my sassy flirty femqunari with the mudbun or those toostsie roll braids or even worst wax bald
shaven wouldn't have been the best but it'd beat freaking wax bald.
I'm kind of wishing we had the option for something like Josephine's hair. It's pretty, frames her face and is pulled out of the way.
*hugs*
