The only problem I have with this concept is, that apparently they are taking MALE as default, and design from there.
...that's what generally happens when things are created 'unisex'.

I personally like the idea of making all the hairstyles available for both male and female PC. There were two or three "male" hairstyles back from DA:O and DA2 I really would have liked to use on my female PCs and vice versa.
The only problem I have with this concept is, that apparently they are taking MALE as default, and design from there. Hence all the bald-options, and hairlines that are definitely more male-coded. As well as the qunari-hair options.
I had too some male hairstyles I liked for my females characters in past games, but the problem with the unisex is what we are seeing. The deafault is the male, and is for the male characters that most hairstyles are made, and, worst, the more feminine hairstyles have been taken away completely, like the chin lenght hairstyles with the cute braids (one of my preferred hairstyles, if only would let me see the elven ears of my characters
) or the more complex longer hairstyles with braids.
The problem with "too much" unisex is falling into bland.

I hate unisex because it ends up male centric and eliminates anything traditionally feminine completely like there's something wrong with it, and it's to be avoided. ![]()
If I had been the one to choose the styles, I would have picked these as better/more stylish versions of what they made. The cornrows become thin, more realistic, and braided in a more interesting curve with a bun (or a ponytail like Sten had). Since I made the cornrows have a bun, I would change the mudbun into a short ponytail instead of a small bun, take away the unstylish part, and give it some volume, texture, and maybe some side bangs. The swept back style I would make longer and closer to the DA2 Qunari. The Mohawk could be a variety of styles, but I would definitely pick something more stylish.
Yeah... unisex hair here seems to have been implemented in such a way as to become uni(root unus = one)-sex as opposed to uni(versal)-sex, such that the styles we see are predominantly male-oriented. This isn't a condemnation of short hair in general; many, many women wear their hair relatively short, and many such styles can work for both men and women. But there has to be some give and take. It's not exactly fair when, out of all your options, most look better on, or are more traditionally worn by, men, and only a very small minority have a slight skew towards women.

Dat mohawk ![]()
But yeah that fourth style is the one I can see usable on my femqunari.
If only that style came with some horns =/
I LOVE how they all have that loose dangly hair in the front or to the side and then the abundance and volume in the back.
Yes, the bang styles are... awful to say the least. I thought BioWare might like to see some hairstyles with gorgeous bangs and tendrils.

Have you seen Queendread's profile pic or one of her art on tumblr?
I'd post the image, but I get the sense she doesn't like her art floating around.
Pretty amazing stuff.
Here's the link to her tumblr page.

Oh that is nice.
...and that gown just makes me think of that godawful suit we're going to wear to the ball and I'm back to being sad ![]()

Hair styles dlc?
Here's my take on what the mudbun could have been:
-snip-
Got to say I'm not a fan of using bun type hair styles when making characters, mostly due to it just looking like there's a lot of space left that makes the face seem off to me and this style I really do love if they had something like this in the CC I would be quite happy. I don't need long hair I just need the illusion of it and this kind of style would give me just that (though I wouldn't say no to longer hair). Plus its got a bit of bang framing the face and hanging down so it doesn't look so empty which is a huge plus for me personally.

tendrils? Very nice. Is that a used and known word? I hadn't heard it. I like it any which way!
Yes, the Bioware Hairstyle mystery continues. The cuteness of many of the hairstyles made the whole Dragon Age experience more a delightful fantasy getaway.
Since you posted all those lovely images here in and in ballroom outfit
I thought I better add one too. No horns though.
I'd love to photoshop them in, but it's not my work.

Precisely, it's the perfect illusion of long hair, plus a touch of elegance.

Oh I do love thta braided style, it is lovely. ![]()
Yes, the official definition of tendril:
That hair is lovely ![]()
I was kind of really hoping for a braided option for Qunari like something along the lines of a short french braid pony tail or bun course to be honest I'm hoping for options like that for braids in general simple yet nice and not overly done (though I really have no idea how long a braid like that takes since my hair is too short for one)

Probably not the best angles I could have found for these

Mhhhm that mohawke ![]()
Jeez just give us mods toolset just for blasted hair and just for singleplayer(I mean common ME3 had multiplayer as well but there were mods for singelplayer).I want that mohawke so badly in-game.
Speaking of braided styles, what do we think of these?
-snip-
I think I really like that third one I like all them aside from the first one. I really want braids badly and the one braided hairstyle I have seen looked a bit to flashy for my liking so something like the third and second picture are bit more to my liking they look like they didn't take several hours to do and look quite nice ![]()

The second is my favourite, just gathered back so loosely.

Something like the second one is something I would have really liked for quite a few of my Inquisitors loose but out of the way and looks nice all at the same time. If there was a nice braided option for qunari my female one most likely wouldn't have gotten scrapped.

Okay, let's see what I can find for nice pulled back styles
