Most of the hairstyles weren't shown until the CC was locked, that's just because they weren't ready to show the CC yet (for whatever reason).

Mostly just because they were still being worked on.  It would have done no one any favours to show incomplete long hair only for it to not be in the game at all for release.

I can understand that people are going to be disappointed because they were hoping for something different or more, but as you say concept art is concept art and that's the starting point for coming up with a vision, but there's still a full process of putting it into the game.  Hopefully with systems in place we can do more going forward.

Eh thankfully there's 3 other races to play all with highly variable hairstyles from short to long. So I'll skip my butt over to the human boat.

I mean I'd love to play qunari. But I don't see that working out with this hair. Hoping for a mod.

Unless a mod becomes available (unlikely because of frostbite), I may not bother with a Qunari PC because of the severe lack of hairstyles.

If I remember correctly, horns on Qunari didn't make an appearance until DA:2... Maybe the devs knew all along that there were Qunari with horns but time/money constraints prevented them from putting it in Origins... Regardless, the average gamer wasn't made aware of horns as a possibility until the sequel (I remember being shocked) and most people still thought the Qunari were pretty damn unique in Origins.

The Qunari was always meant to have horns but DAO couldn't let it happen, but I remember people calling them "giant humans" in Origins. That doesn't really feel all that unique

Also exactly the race restircted romances plus this hair nonsense? Meeeh. Looks like human is the way to go. I mean I was really looking forward to the "OH GOD A QUNARI MAGE RUN!" but not enough to get past that hair. Too many disadvantages not enough advantages for me. I could've dealt with everything if I could tweak her to my liking...but since I can't screw it.

Exactly. I don't see how they are selling anyone on picking a qunari. As a fem qunari I get to be bald or near-bald. And I can either be a lesbian, which I didn't want her to be, or I can romance a one-eyed, unattractive male qunari with a teeny head/fat body - or a man who looks exactly like my dad. lol. I mean wow. More power to the fans who love being bald with giant, dark lesions on their forehead, plus Iron Bull's sexy, gaping eye socket. Have fun!

Really =/
(If it really ends up being impossible for even hair mods I guess I'll try to grit my teeth through a cornrow or bun playthrough) but knowing me I'll give up half way through the prologue and go back to human.

I'm going to grit my teeth and go with the bun when/if I end up doing a female Qunari Mage play through... I might even role play a bald female Qunari (and make her stunningly gorgeous), but she's going to cry every night when she looks in the mirror and I'm going to imagine Vivienne coming into her bedroom late at night to console her, as they're both bald soul sisters :P

I wonder if you can help with this, Was the decision for the hair based on animation/clipping issues?

They should have just allowed the bald fem qunari to romance Solas too, based on the fact that they could build rapport on such common ground. hahaha

Vivi owns the bald look. (Plus she has awesome hats)

FemQunari doesn't even get awesome hats :(

XD

I'll probably still romance Blackwall but it won't be with the taller lady/shorter dude combo I was planning on. Oh well. Plans change. I'm just bummed those terrible hairstyles made my most hyped race so meh. Shows how even the little things can make or break a character for me I guess.

They don't have to, some people still plan on playing a qunari regardless of the hair options and race-restricted romances

I hope in future DA games they pay a bit more attention to such crucial aesthetics. :/

Are you sure the devs didn't just try to conveniently retcon the qunari's appearance in DA:2?? Was there a codex entry in Origins that talked about horns or did the devs give any hints back then? I honestly can't remember...

And I thought the whole bronze skin, purple eyes, fascinating societal structure, interesting religious hierarchy, and the importance of Sten's sword was pretty unique *shrugs*

Damn, I.... guess long hair makes the FemQunari?

Take note then, BioWare.

They probably did, but if they truly wanted to retcon the qunari's appearance then Sten would've had horns in the comic

That female Qunari hair is the worst looking hair I think I've ever seen in a game  it all looks the same (some variation of bald with spraypaint or tubes that are supposed to be cornrows? dreads?) and the textures look straight out of Morrowind or some other really old game it's especially jarring considering how detailed and realistic the faces are. I'm not usually this harsh but damn. I made a thread expressing my worry about this almost a year ago and people told me I was worrying too much and that it's a shiny new engine and that the crappy hair on Varric and Cassandra was because it was pre-alpha and the final hair would totally not be like that, that the reason half the companions are bald is due to story reasons and not crappy hair reasons...Is the joke on them or me?

Would it have been so hard to make a hairstyle like any of these?

*edit* I just realized, we can't even cover it with a hood or helmet since Qunari can't wear them :crying:

Hopefully in the future we can get some more different hairstyles. To me they've very important in the crafting of my character.

Even if the only long hairstyles had been restricted to hornless/stubbed It'd been better.

LMAO Nefla. So so true.

That mohawk one looks beautiful THAT is a mohawk I'd used.

I didn't mean that literally. I was speaking in jest. Obviously they aren't trying to sell or dissuade anyone from picking whatever. That still doesn't erase the fact that they goofed up terribly for qunari aesthetics and have just disappointed a lot of fans who were planning on a gorgeous fem qunari.

Harder than making a 2D mockup in Photoshop, at the very least.

Idunno, there was exactly one hairstyle I liked in DAO, and it wasn't what I wanted going in, but I used it and ended up with a character I loved even more than my original concept.

You'll never get EXACTLY what you want outside of pen and paper RPing, sometimes you need to adapt and make small concessions here and there.

There is a long hairstyle; she's just wearing it in a bun. If your character concept is broken by a bun then maybe it wasn't what you really wanted in the first place.

No, because the rationale for having hornless Qunari act as spies because they don't stand out as much made perfect sense.

Speaking of which, can hornless Qunari wear helmets in Inquisition?? I don't think that question has been answered... they better be able to. Sten wore helmets in Origins and this "Vitaar" nonsense reeks of laziness.

Look at what the most modded part of the body is in any ME or DA game.

It's hair.
