Well, there is a bun hairstyle for female Qunari. So what's the problem?
Aside from it having no volume and being generally poorly done?
Well, there is a bun hairstyle for female Qunari. So what's the problem?
The bun is:
a ) extremely small - so small, in fact, that it's barely visible in profile
b ) poorly textured
c ) poorly meshed together with the forehead on female qunari, leaving a conspicuous patch of exposed scalp between the horns
d ) the only example of its kind
In the case of a:
People who want buns usually want buns because they give the impression of volume and length while at the same time benefiting from a style that is practical and easy to model. The mudbun utterly fails to do this. It gives the impression of thin hair that is the absolute minimum length to be tied back. It looks like a compromise haircut that started out as the token female option but was rapidly scaled back to become increasingly short and masculine.
In the case of b:
The texture detail is lacking, making the hair look featureless and plasticized.
In the case of c:
I imagine few people want to see strange bald patches on their female character's forehead. It's a sorry state of affairs when the longest hairstyle available to qunari doesn't fit as well on the female model as it does on the male model.
In the case of d:
Most players like a bit of variety. Players who want to make a qunari character are stuck with 3 hair meshes (4 if you're male). That doesn't leave much room for diversity. You can't capture very many physical archetypes with such a limited number of options. The mudbun is extremely tight, and reminiscent of buns worn by stern, ornery, aged headmistresses. That's not exactly the image a lot of players want to have associated with their characters. All of the qunari options are at the extreme end of practicality; they are all very short, very simple, and very plain. However, not all players want to play a character who's aesthetic is that of severe functionality.

Too late.
Sorry folks but the game comes out in a few days.
Though perhaps it's not too late for a patch.

Thank you for pointing out something that was not glaringly obvious. We honestly had no idea. ![]()
A patch or DLC is precisely what we've been asking for... for the past 141 or so pages.

Obviously someone is new to the thread...
First time poster here; but I felt I wanted to come in and agree with mostly everyone else that the hair styles are pretty 2010 in terms of graphics (the hair styles are very flat in color). Customization is really important and I thought Bioware understood that but it seems they rushed the hair especially with the female Qunari (they honestly don't even look like women judging by the hairstyles). I know modding is going to be next to difficult with this engine but if there is one thing I liked from games like Skyrim is the fact that the modding community can do a wonderful job with hair and the shaders.
I wasn't defending the lack of hairstyles, people. Just finding a role-playing reason to get around technical problems.
This is all disappointing news. I was thinking about running a Qunari female to break away from my human male streak. But I'd hoped to be able to create something like the Qunari from that comic.
I'll play around with the sliders for a while, but I'm not hopeful.
Mike and Lee already said in a stream, they're aware of the people mouning about the hair choices. They couldn't drop everything, and fix it because ithe game would been held back, again, just for ****ing hair extensions. Which would of pissed me off more than the current hair. It's being looked into, copied, pasted, in the note book. Now can we, pleeease, stop complaining about the hair?
The only reason we saw long hair Qunari in DA2, was because they were all a copy of another. Lastly, I mentioned a few pages back, you're a Tal-Vashoth mercenary. Not Princess Peach, in a flowing pink dress, and long golden hair. You're a bad ass merc, who thirsts for blood, and drink it from your victim's skull with a tiny umbrella. You don't need flowing locks. BUT. That's just me.

That ties into what I've been saying. She's a badass merc who dislikes long hair, not a princess. I won't be putting any makeup on her either.

Short hair is for weaklings. Samson had long hair and you see what it did for him.

We could find examples of badass people with long and short hair both. I still think short hair fits a mercenary... NOT that I'm defending the hairstyles, as I said before. More options would always be nice, and I really hope they release more hair styles later. Though if they do, you'll probably have to pay real money for it because it will be DLC like in Dragon's Dogma (not Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen though, that had all the new hairstyles on the disk by default).
Short hair would be fine if it wasn't crappy short hair
I agree with that. If it had to be short, there's still a ton of hairstyles that would work better. Even a basic boys-cut would do.

That's better looking, it's not as dolled up. But yeah, a boy cut would fit my fem-Qun best.
This is, quite possibly, one of the dumbest things ever said in the history of time.Lastly, I mentioned a few pages back, you're a Tal-Vashoth mercenary. (That was sarcasm, but still.)
I'd like to introduce you to Etain, from the movie Centurion:
She can't say anything in her defense because her tongue was cut out as a child, but she is a bad ass warrior who thirsts for blood.
AND SHE HAS GORGEOUS LONG HAIR.
You don't have to have short hair to kill people. Etain would cut off your balls and eat them raw if you looked at her wrong. If I want to create a female qunari that is based off of her, I should be able to.
Obviously long hair is impossible, but we absolutely should be given access to medium length hair.

You do know TV barbarian like women, be it Xena, Wonder Woman and the Amazonian, all had long hair and everything. Was because of sex appeal, no? Some men... Or women, don't want to see a shaved headed/short haired woman. They wanted long beautiful hair, and elephant head size breasts. That's the reason Etain looks this way, nothing more. If you see real mercs, it's shaved heads or small half inch Mohawks. IF you want real world reasoning, short or shaved heads keep you from catching it on tree branches, fencing, or the main one... Not to be grabbed and have your throat slit.
Same reason she has thick eyeshadow, pretty sure it's not war paint

Not to mention, you ever tried keeping nice hair while wearing a helmet for hours? I haven't... But I imagine it's pretty much impossible. Long hair is hard enough up-keeping, adding helmets into the mix makes it even harder than that. Your nice long hair is going to come out of the helmet looking like a greasy, matted mess.
