After playing the game, I'm really not getting the "we're terrified of clipping" excuse for having the lank, flat, pasted down hair that the Qunari have. So many things clip. My elf's arms clip through his hips because his shoulders are so narrow, his chin clips through his armor neckpiece whenever he turns his head, peoples body parts and weapons are clipping at every turn. I stick with my belief that
1)They're bad at hair and have been for a long time
2)No one on the team with a sense of style giving their opinion
3)It was slapped on in a rush as an afterthought

Do we know how good is the game´s engine at hair?
It's better at it than the Qunari hair options let on... Proven by all the other race's styles.

I don't think the engine have faults on the hairstyles, I think is mostly a problem of time and little consideration of the issue. (I believe people at BioWare forgot how players love giving a cute hairstyle to their characters, expecially the female ones. Sadly for now only Dragon's Dogma seem to have understand it.)

So I'm trying to make a Qunari, it's not going well... but I figured I'd post a little update on how things stand with the game regarding the necrotic craters. Their visibility is tied to the complexion you choose - you can cause them to appear lesser, but they most certainly NEVER go away.
This is as small as you can make them

And choosing the blackest skintone to match does not change their visibility.

Do you have a charcoal skintone example?

So... that sucks. Copper skintone's don't help by the way...
OH! And the male bun has a bald patch on the top of his head.

Yeah I decided to give Qunari lady a go (since my elf lady is already lvl 12 and I was bored).
I got to the hinterlands...and I can't take her hair anymore.
Oh well. Restarted and went human dude.
Just no one went and said "hey...maybe they should have a shoulder length style like everyone else?" Bah.

Yeah, I convinced myself I was just being too picky and that her face/horns would make up for the hair, so I tried making a female qunari inquisitor. I played her for like 15 mins before I couldn't take it any more and deleted her. Its just so stupid cuz her face and horns are beautiful, and just what I imagined, but then her hair is like some ugly old lady bun and doesnt match her personality at all. Not to mention the stupid bald spot in the middle. So now I'm reluctantly playing a elf ![]()

I was definitely extremely excited to play Qunari this time around, but the (lack of) hair styles really hurts the race, especially since they can't put on a helmet to cover up the ugly do's. Maybe I've just been spoiled by all the fantastic fanart of male and female Qunari DA fans have been making leading up to Inquisition's release (not to mention Bioware's own concept art) but the hair styles we have been provided are just so pitifully lackluster.
It's 2014, after all. You'd think Bioware of all people would have figured out how to incorporate better hair into their games. Instead we still get the hair helmets that have been the staple since DA:O.

Yep, I couldn't even get past character creator with my qunari lady. The hair ruins just everything for me :/
EDIT: And the more I think about it, the more I don't get how Bioware can design such great looking hairstyles for the companions, but their design-skills fall completely flat when it comes to hair for the PC. Just... why?

I'll never understand Cassandra's braid halo, but at least it's something creative!
And Josephine's bun is perfection....

The sad thing is, mod support would have solved a lot of this. Skyrim had pretty awful haircuts too (not as bad as DA:I though) but modders jumped right in and within a few weeks we had fantastic new hair styles.

I just spent about 5 hours playing with the customizer.
...It falls short. There is no love here. It just stops and leaves me wanting. Thus far I've tried the male and female qunari and a female elf, each of which was a real disapointment when it came down to the hair. I am playing on a PC and I will continue to experiment, only had the game for a day... But I'm seeing plastic super shine hair and a very saddening lack of style options. Don't get me wrong, I intend to play the crap out of this game but I've hit a brick wall in liking my character. There just isn't any zazz to them. I keep deleting them and starting over because I want some personality on my character's noggin. The super shine is pretty goofy but I think I'd let that slide. I would LOVE to meet a barber in this adventure or a mad alchemist who can GET ME SOME HAIR! My character's facial expressions are, well, lovely, and so far (I've only gotten about 20 mins in b4 going back to try a new look) the only hook I have in keeping interest in my character.

You can fix the shine issue in your options menu. Change the mesh option to high or ultra.

I think all the hairstyles in the Editor leave something to be desired, but the Qunari are definitely the biggest offenders. It doesn't help that in DA2 they had long hair just fine, and in all their concept art form DA2/DAI they are shown with long hair. So to all of a sudden not have long hair or even shoulder-length hair is just such a disappointment.
My best guess is that this is a technical limitation of Frostbite engine (or the animation system within the engine) since again it seems that hair across all races suffers from terrible quality in comparison to the rest of the character.
Given the huge objections to this from a lot of users (as this thread's size is an indication of) one would hope Bioware will figure out a way to get this to work. That or it will eventually be modded in by others.

That is this games version of hornless. There are small pits/craters that you cannot remove, but can make a little smaller with complexions.
I never plan on playing a hornless Qunari, but some folks did and cared quite a bit that the hornless version had those. Playing in the Cc reveals you cannot get rid of them, at all.

Huh. I always thought those were just black spots. I guess I'll have to go check it out. I was planning on playing hornless myself, if at all.

Honestly, with the huge mod community the previous two Dragon Age games had, I think you can safely sit back and just wait for some enterprising soul to mod stuff like this in. Hell, I half expect someone to translate Specialist Traynor's model from ME3 into this game for a human character, just for shits and giggles.

I just realized something. So often they quote that the problem with providing long hair is that it clips.
But my freaking armour clips horribly! There's a long jacket and the shirt tails are constantly coming right through the back of the jacket.
So why is armour clipping acceptable but hair clipping isn't?

Not to mention Morrigan's hair is awesome and stylish while the inquisitor ponytails look frumpy and poorly modeled (and have a receding hairline if I remember)

yep. We really need a DLC or a patch. Is a pity that such awesome CC have to suffer for bad hairstyles. (I have created an adrgony female elf that I really love, subtly feminine but resembling a young boy. I really lover her.
