While I agree the hair is total ass I really don't get why people are that into shoulder length and longer hair.
Because all the haircuts we do have are closely cropped or medium-length at max? ... that just leaves shoulder length+.

Putting aside how ugly they are that comment only applies to non-Qunari. This isn't a threat about them. Qunari have that ugly bun. That's about it for length.

I suspect that it's because damn near every single Qunari we've seen has had long hair. Only Iron Bull stands as the exception. Every other Qunari, in the games or, more notably, in official DA artwork, has had at 'least' shoulder-length hair. Hell, even Sten had very long hair, it was just put up in tight braids.

You why it's infuriating that the hair options for the Qunari are so crappy, it's for two reasons.
First ... THIS
The first thing you ever see when you select your race as Qunari is this concept art that makes them look majestic and imposing with big muscular bodies and long flowing white hair ... get to the character creation screen and you see nothing but CRAP, it turns out it is IMPOSSIPLE to create a character that looks even close to the ones in the concept art .. maybe they need to learn a thing or two about the effects of creating false expectations and the disappointment it causes.
Second is THIS
Guild Wars 2
EVE Online
Black Desert
Aion
Bascially every MMO and many RPGs out there can do varied and long hair styles just fine if not FANTASTIC ... from Black Desert's super detailed hair (which you can modifiy strand by strand if you want), to EVE Online in which hair actually looks and moves like real hair, to Guild Wars 2 which offers a wide variety of hair styles (long, short, curly, straight, .. etc etc) ... to even Aion (which is quite old) still the hair in it looks far more interesting than any Bioware game.
=========================================================================
Long story short, Hair in most Bioware games is really lacking and a sore sight, i suggest they hire some people who actually know how to model hair properly .. this is no issue of graphics engine or clipping or any of those non-true excuses, it's just that they don't know how to model hair .. and they won't admit it .. that's all there is to it.
==========================================================================
Also .. Body Types and modifications
It's hard to enjoy creating your own characters (which is an integral part of western RPGs) when there are so little options to do so with .. and all we get are lame excuses ... which are unacceptable from a big dev like Bioware with the resources and talents to create big games ... which also takes me to the issue of body types .. isn't it about time Bioware starting including body-modifiers in their games .. even japanese action RPGs like Dragon's Dogma and Dark Souls 2 had body types (thin, fat, tall, short, lean, muscular) ... is it really that hard !!! .. i highly doubt it is since also many MMOs have such options ... in a game with such diversity in themes and one that touts freedom of choice and creating your own story it's unbelivable we get such crappy hair options and non-existant body type options (i know each race has different body type but it still doesn't make sense that all people from the same race has the same exact body type !!!).

I'd like to point Dragon's Dogma hairstyles: they are, as in DAI, all available for both male and female players, without problem.
and yet, they haven't taken away the more feminile ones. or the more masculine either.

As you can see, there are something like sixty hairstyles (little number at the side of the hairstyle). Long, short, braided, feminine, masculine, even childlike. There are a lot of different hairstyles.
And, to kill every idiotic comment about "it's all the old console's fault!": PS3, people. Old. Gen.
And is not exactly the newest game around. And body sliders, walk style, etherocromatic eyes, scars and tatoo for both face and body.
The others option of the DAI's CC are great, and sometimes I just start a new character justo to "play" with it. But every fun I have in the CC is killed by the hairstyles. I had this naive believe new games should do better than old ones.

I really have to agree with the last two posts. Getting to customize your character is fantastic. Having more options like many other mainstream games would make our characters that much better. I enjoy customizing my characters in DAI but there is really so much that could be done to improve the system. Better hairs, body types, scars and tattoos for the body, ect. Hell there are some games that let you add piercings to your characters, something I love on my long eared elf types. The customization isn't bad but there is so much room to improve the system and truly allow us to create the characters we want, not get as close as possible and then be forced to say good enough.

Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning had piercing and earrings. It didn't have a very big/good CC, but, as cartoonish as the hair where (but ok with the game style) there where more variants, at least in the female character, than in DAI. short, braided and longhish. Not enormeous choices, but at least there wasn't male balding patch. ![]()

I have to admit the first time I saw the male balding patch on my Female Qunari I laughed pretty hard. I then proceeded to delete her shortly there after because I couldn't unsee that bald spot and my eyes were always drawn to it. I guess female pattern baldness is quite the epidemic among the ladies of Thedas.

To revisit this topic, I don't think Bioware can even blame clipping issues with the lack of good hair for qunari since DAI has so many blatant clipping issues everywhere in the game so if they don't really care about clipping. Also I hate the blatant design errors qunari hairstyles have, especially the mudbun. There is bald spot in top of qunaris hair with that hairstyle and two hair spots that don't look they belong to hairstyle top of qunari's ears. These hairspots also are always different color than rest of hair just to make it more obvious.

And Qunari Inquisitor don'even wear an elmet. So is hard to find a really excuse for the horror that the Qunari get as hairstyles.
Speaking of helmets...is a bug or is a way to not stay away from the "BioWare can't make good helmets in DA no matter what" the cap who make seem bald the characters who wear the hats?

I haven't given up hope that something will come along eventually. My fear is that it will be behind a pay wall as some sort of DLC. I also know that the hair will be just as mediocre as the hairs for all the other races. The hair models in all of Bioware's games are adequate at best. None of them ever really looked all that good which is really depressing. I would have hoped they would have overcome this shortcoming but it seems that was a pipe dream. But I will still hold on to the hope they will fix the hairs in DAI and hopefully begin to model the hair better in future games. Fingers Crossed!

I've officially given up hope that Bioware will add any new hairstyles in a patch or DLC. The devs just don't care. They pretended they were "listening to our concerns" just to shut us up. They're laughing all the way to the bank now.
Seeing as there's been 0 DLC I wouldn't do anything unless you've given up on there being DAI DLC. I mean this is super easy to monetize. It's horse armour equivalent DLC. If EA isn't offering it there's a reason because it's absolutely microtransaction fodder.

Personally I would have been fine with a variety of short haircuts as well as varying updos if they actually looked good
Morrowind and Ocarina of Time looked good when they came out, but they don't look good anymore BioWare, stop ripping your hair textures from them.

Yeah I really can't find a hair style that I like. Especially if i'm trying to go hornless, there is only one hairstyle that keeps the very visible dents on my head from showing...and it's bunk! Honestly if quinari was some kind of dlc added on in the future i'd have liked it better. Because they would have had more dev time to make better looking ones. I'm a fan of Sten and thusly the whole design really threw me off with the giant damn horns, etc.

I would say the hair textures are an abomination, but I've seen the eyebrow and scruff textures, so...

So the next PC Patch is the biggest yet and if I heard correctly it contains the Black Emporium. So more weapons, armour, gear, etc. the ability to customize your character and tint the color of your armour. Perhaps this patch could have some of the fixes were all looking for, or at least that's what I'm hoping for. More armours for Qunari, maybe even some helmets or masks. This would be the perfect time to implement some changes to the Character Creator as well so lets hope that we see some new hairs and maybe even new horn options for the Qunari. Well I would actually love to see new options for every race but that is probably asking for to much. So here is to hoping for better CC options for our neglected Qunari. If anyone gets on the beta test for this patch would you mind giving us some info? That would be super. Especially for those of us who are on console and may not be seeing this patch for a looong time.

Oh and I just wanted to say I started playing Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on the 3ds and even that game has more hair types to choose from and they come in varying lengths from short to long and in varying styles. Come on Bioware, a 3ds game is showing you up, that's kind of sad...

That's...sad. To say the least. but what I'm quite annoyed about is the total lack of adressing the subject by the devs. I'd like to hope the next big patch will have more hairstyles too, but I'm really skeptical.

I had to google THAT now too. Evidently I don't remember the back of the boxart either. Honestly I don't know if I've ever seen it beyond a passing glance.
When I think of Arishok I think of this and yes, now that people point out he has hair I can see it. But I cannot recall if I ever noticed before or if I just don't remember.
The Arisok has long hair, reference photo here.

I really would just like to recreate DA2 qunari. Those guys were pretty awesome (I may have had a crush on the Arishok). In DAI, I'm glad I get to play as one, but really the lack of anything remotely "Qunari" about our character dulls the fascination.
