It's also possible that the horns and hair were both allocated from the same bucket of zots.  That is, time spent on the hair would've meant less time spent on the horns.

Yeah, this is exactly what I meant. It could have been about balancing time and resources.

Other than modeling the hair around the horns and other stuff they do with animations

I don't see a horn set we have that would have clipping problems with a lot of types of hair.

You mean the ones from DA2? I think they pretty much had to do everything from scratch because of the engine.

No, they would use the horns they modeled for this game but with the added resources add new hair to them.

I gathered that. I was talking about if the bucket of zots was bigger due to other circumstances, like the Qunari not having tattoos and thus the tattoo zots going to the hair and horn zots.

(I mean a lot of them are broken/fixed variations)

or they had weird metal bits attached.

He has a point.

However I don't know if the clipping limitations might be one of the reasons for the lack in variation of hair

I think that was one of the reasons, because that might have been why horns and hair was added together in the slider

They could've though people have been requesting lots of horn variations

True. I'm just baffled no one looked at the lopsided amount of choice (or the really badly implemented hairstyles there were) and went "wait..."

Especially when you see how lovely the hairs look for humans :(

That would have been preferable. I would much rather have only 3-4 horn styles and some hair that actually look like hair than 20 horn options on a bald, spraypainted, or blobbed on head.

Agreed.

Yep.

And then other people would've been disappointed in the lack of horn variations

But in that case surely you could've given us less horn variations (I mean a lot of them are broken/fixed variations) and more hair?

It didn't have to be so lopsided in favor of one. A more equal amount of hairstyle choices and horn choices would've been fine with me =/

Of course, you're not happy with the hair and you really want better hair, so it's a compromise you would have been willing to make.

It looks to me like the aesthetic choice wasn't so much in the hair styles provided, but rather that the focus was more on the horns (for better or worse... I do know some that really like the horn variation).  Maybe we made the wrong call with the horn variations?  I doubt I'll ever truly *know* the answer to that unfortunately.

Yeah, the metal sheathing just looked... off to me. And no horn rings! Ugh.

Total separation here, but I noticed that the male Qunari shown in CC doesn't have the skin covering his horns' beginning slowly darkening to black, while the female's does. I don't have pictures, but it looks a bit ridiculous for males, as the skin looks.. puffy..

Ah ok, my point was that it is possible that the Horns were still more "zots" than the hair for the other races because they can only be used for the qunari but I get your point.

Even from an analysis perspective, there is no hair that touches the horns in anyway. I could see it as a limitation yes.

Even the helmet issue but they solved that by replacing it with facw paint that I actually like.

Needs shaman face paint tho.

Those horns were given lot more love though <_< There was variation and good texture. When comparing qunari hairstyles to human one's for exaple, human one's have better and more variable styles and also the texture and overall quality is better.

I think the time forthe qunari hair should been taken anywhere else and put to that hair. Less horn options, less make-up, maybe take something away from other races since they have lot more stuff than qunari (more hairstyles and also tattoos, and helms!). I think the hair shouldnt be breaking point when chosing what race to play.

True.

They gave us a whole bunch of horn variation but little hairstyle variation. That works for some but not me =/

I mean if the hair itself was nice even if it was short I probably would've went along with it but the hair doesn't look appealing at all. That and the limited amounts is just disappointing.

I personally prefer the larger number of horn options we got. Its what makes Qunari unique. I prefer the devs focusing on what makes each race unique visually when they can.

See?

Males:

See how weird the male looks? WHY?

EDIT: The dark fade on females is still there when bald, and dark skinned, I just don't have a pic.

I would have liked the horn variation if even one of the hairstyles looked like hair and not spraypaint or some sea creature eating her head. As it is, that variation is wasted in my opinion. The most glorious and diverse horns don't cover a weird, blotchy head with a plastic lump for hair.

I agree.  Having no visibility into the decision making process, I think it's fair to say that the horns were the focus for the Qunari customization.

Unfortunately I'm not privy to the decision making process so I can't really state with any authority as to whether or not "taking effort away from other places" would make sense given their cirucmstances.

I do think many of the horns are lovely, but every iconic Qunari character I can think of from Dragon Age has had longer hair. So one could argue that the long white hair was an important visual distinction of their race as well.

Edit: Besides Iron Bull. I can't believe I forgot about Iron Bull. I'm a terrible Bull rider.

Fair, but even when it comes to the hairstyles we do have, I think everyone here agrees that the quality just isn't there compared to every other race. I wouldn't be on this complain-train (beyond maybe one comment ) had the hairstyles been implemented better. Hornless Qunari are stuck with not only poorly-meshed looking hair, but dark splotches that seem to have no lore attached. I mean... it's fine if you prioritize horns, but hair shouldn't be of less quality as a result. I'll take a hit to quantity, no problem, but not quality.

Sadly qunaris won't even be able to hide bad hair with helmets. If only I could have pimphat for my qunari to hide that hair, it would no longer to be so much issue. But I have to watch it whole game, during every conversation, cutscene, romance scene.. you can't hide it in anyway.

I was mostly going off of this and other concept art of both male and female qunari
