Please rethink qunari hairs.. or lack of them!

I mean I completely understand why some people wanted more hair options. I like them, and i was pretty geeky over the horn options, I guess it is pretty cool that the horns which are unique to Qunari are so customizable. Hopefully people don't cancel the game over it, think of all the characters along the way!

I don't think anyone has said they will opt out of playing the game.

A number of people, including myself, have decided (after a year of excitement) to skip playing a qunari altogether. It's a bit disappointing that the aesthetics for a qunari were tossed. Hair is a big deal. Countless fans have made countless forum posts requesting better hair options. The most modded body part for any video game is hair

I actually don't mind the options we have, not gonna stop me from playing as one in my second playthrough, love the horn options, very nice. B)

@Elissiaro I loved those hairstyles! Gimme! There was so many that my fem!qunari and my dude!qunari would love to have, they are just too beatiful! :crying:

Honestly, at this point, I see no advantage to playing a qunari.

Sigh, I have to agree. Playing as female qunari was what I was most hyped about but all my preferred romances (Solas, Cullen, Varric, Dorian & Cass) are gated away from me, one-by-one. Then I found out that there is no helmets, I though there would be some kind of horn ornaments then but there is just face-paint that takes tattoos away from us. Then there is just 4 poor hair options.

It really seems like playing as qunari will be look-wise much more limiting than other-races. The fact that you can't even have pimphat to cover up bad hair is simply sad.

Yes we will get horns but price for those is hair + helmets + tattoos, three ascept reduced or not existing just to get some horns on qunaris.

Yeah I reached the sad acceptance stage.

Shame because they really were the race I was looking forward to most then just got more and more negatives placed on them =/

It's not even worth it, visually. Horns are cool and everything but seriously. And even some of the horn options are dumb anyway.

Broken, asymmetrical horns? Ok. Some people will prefer that. Not me, but some will.

Short stubby horns? Sure. I guess some want that too in order to play Saarebas. Again, not me, but some will. OPTIONS, right?

You want no horns or hair? Ok! But there are blotches left where the horns should be. ...Wtf?

You're cool with the mohawk? Great. But you can't have the classic horns that swoop back and point upward. ......Why?

Don't want horns? Just want regular hair? Well your hair options are still only 4. And the hair that doesn't cover the forehead will show the blotches. I hate you.

Seems like the options range from tolerably unattractive to ridiculously ugly. I (hell - most of us) wanted the femqun to look pretty. That is not a crime. Femqun looked pretty in every other concept we've seen. I can't speak for anyone else, but that has built an image in my head of what to expect with femqunari aesthetics.

It's not like the qunari are trolls, hobgoblins, or darkspawn. It's not like we're playing as a vorcha and expecting it to be some sexy version of an otherwise hideous-as-hell race.

Qunari have been branded as stunning and beautiful. We've fawned over the Arishok's chiseled face and lovely hair. We've seen the females in comics and concept art. This race isn't typecasted as drab, boring, or unattractive. But the only qunari companion we get is an extreme example of fugly, and the qunari aesthetics in CC are limited and bland. The horn options are cool, sure, but they look stupid with that (lack of) hair. Horns, in of themselves, can't carry the look for me. Sorry.

So now, if you play a qunari:

1. No motivator - nothing unique about your playable background. All races start from the same spot.
2. Two highly sought after romances are off limits.
3. Hairstyles are poorly made and limited.

Where are the pros?

1) I finally get to make a big, physically imposing lady.
2) I love the drowish skin tones.
3) The horns are boss.
4) Only wanted Sera, Josephine, or Cass anyway.
5) Being tal-vashoth will be neat from a RP perspective.
6) I don't need a unique playable origin to role play my character as having one.
7) Bonus to melee defense.
8) Seeing how people will react to an Inquisitor from a conqueror race will or should be interesting.
9) I think Sumalee's voice will be perfect with it.

I love it all. Having to wear my hair in a bun? Fair trade, says I.

The only pro you listed for me would be the skin tone. That's it.

- I have no preference on a woman's body size one way or the other.

- I only like one style of the horns and those don't come with the mohawk option.

- I have zero interest in being a lesbian.

- I don't see my being tal-vashoth actually making a big difference in the gameplay, especially since we don't see that origin unfold, not even in a brief flashback of a cut scene. Iron Bull might react to it, but he interests me the least.

- I don't care about melee bonus because I wanted to roll a qunari mage.

- The voices are inconsequential regarding race. Sumalee can voice any race.

Seriously, give me something worthwhile. Give me better hair options in the very least...

How would one show this to a dev? Twitter?

You can contact Shumacher he seem like a nice guy for starter (ask him to either pass them along or to give you all the tools to contact bioware)  . Then you could ask anyone who has twitter (and make pne of your own) and post those pic on Bioware Twietter and ask everyone to join that they want them . Then take the 'good reasonable' approche , to not tell them push your game for a year cose of my hairdo . But tell them if its possible with the time left if they can add them or add them as a patch for after release . I think they can do that with a patch..although..I never seen it happen . BUt the important thing is you TRY . :)

It is as s/he said a YMMV situation.

I actually really loved femqunari being taller than everyone that's not the bull. And yeah being the qunari race and seeing those options were something I were looking foward too.

But the terrible hair choices to me are high negatives that outweigh those bonuses. Especially when playing a human female has so many bonuses of its own. So the choice to me became clear. Make a human lady, have access to all of femQunari's romances along with an extra one and watch the funny "OMG a qunari moments." on youtube. *shrug* It's simply what you value more really.  I value hair more than horns so BW's approach was meh that said they did beautifully on the human options so that's where I'm going.

Hopefully hair mods are on the way. Or at least DLC =/ maybe they can get the hairs they couldn't get working before working.

My offer still stands to any devs willing to read this forum post and pass it along to the rest of the department:

I will pay extra for better hair options in a DLC. I don't even care if the DLC isn't released for another year. That is totally fine with me. They can spend a year tweaking the hair options. I will pay them extra for something of high quality to be downloaded in the future.

If anyone else is with me on this, let's hear it. Money talks.

For me it's not about necessarily aesthetics. Just variety, options.
I find it strange and honestly underwhelming that a) hair and horns are tied together and that there are only four options for hair, all extremely similar in style and silhouette and rather... bland. ESPECIALLY compared to the rest of the CC which is so detailed and amazing.

Welp, but in the moment we can just wait until Bioware might adress those concerns or until some brave modders try their hands on the Frostbite Engine

Mods or DLC or both. Hopefully something for us console players. And I had to look up YMMV because internet forum abbreviations are too obnoxious to keep up with.

Did you guys read Mike Laidlaw's tweets addressing this issue? I like to imagine his curt responses originate from a subconscious source of shame and sorrow... :P

I mean, what developer (or any person in their right mind) could look at those ridiculous, texture-less hair "styles" and be PROUD of them?? They're honestly an embarrassment to the Dragon Age series and worse than any hairstyle in Dragon Age Origins or the first Mass Effect. I think a majority of fans (and random strangers you ask on the street) would agree with that statement.

I just wish Bioware would have a little more patience and understanding when we voice our disappointment... Allan pretty much shrugged his shoulders and says "looks like they prioritized the horns and y'all got stuck with shitty hair... sucks for you!"

(The horns look badass, btw, and I'm really excited about them, I just don't understand why the hornless qunari characters can't use the same hairstyles that the other characters get... can we please get an explanation? If there are valid technical excuse, I think most of the fans will be understanding - we're not unreasonable. A lot of us have been looking forward to playing a female qunari for a LONG time but part of our excitement was based on the deceptive concept art...)

Long hair would have been nice, but honestly I feel spoilt rotten by all the options available. There are so many hair/horn combos that look great to me and the damaged, sawed-off and decorated horn options were an unexpected treat. I will be spending a lot of time in the CC with my Qunari Inquisitors.

XD preferably both.

I mean...if there was a toolset I admit my reaction to this would've been "really? Ewwwww so glad I play on PC!" but with frostbite =/

Aww you get used to them. :P

Also yeah complete garbage that hornless is still stuck with the horn short styles. =/

I love the horns, they made me a lot more exited to play as a Qunari :)
But I do agree with the hairstyles. My biggest problem is that the Qunari tarot card, when you choose a race; shows a female Qunari with long, beautiful hair.
I understand that that perticular hairstyle would not work, but at least some lenght would be nice.
Feels a bit like false marketing :P

(okej I wanted to post a picture here but I don't seem to figure out how...)

But again, awesome job on the horns!
And basically everything else about the character creation; I am so excited!

It's not that I hate the hair in and of itself. It's that it's grossly inconsistent with every depiction of female (and male, for that matter) qunari up until now.

Duh. I can’t have long-haired qunari, so I drew him.  It's based on that cutscene right after CC.

Yup, that's a big disappointment for me too. I don't remember all the hair/horn combinations right of the bat now, but I bet there will be other people running into this problem. They can live with one hairstyle, but because hair / horns are locked together they wouldn't get the horns they want. Or they want that hornstyle but are stuck with a hairstyle that they find atrocious. I just... who made that decision? That was really a bad idea.

Exactly. I think we deserve an explanation as to why we were mislead to believe in the fierce fabulousness of the female qunari! :P

Yeah, that sucks... Those are actually my favorite horns too, so I'll probably just grit my teeth and go with that hairstyle if/when I end up playing a female qunari. I don't understand why they couldn't at LEAST allow us to mix/match horn/hair style... it makes NO sense. The horns all originate from the same area and the hairstyles are all short/ugly enough that there shouldn't be any clipping issues whatsoever. People jumped down my throat when I said the "L" word earlier, but it's almost like the devs did the qunari hairstyles last and didn't have nearly enough time to make them look good. :\
