Please rethink qunari hairs.. or lack of them!

I mean, I thought each race was built for a specific"type" so to say. They couldn't cover across the board with all races, So Elves are elegant/pretty, Qunari are big and tough, Humans are the midway, and Dwarves are cute. (at least when it comes to women)

 

I really like that there are core representations for all races. The hairstyles seem to go with that. Lots of people will want to play their preferred type with the race they want and that can be very dissapointing, but I don't think it is a major failure of Bioware that that isn't possible all of the time.

 

(believe me i adore playing dwarves but it is nearly impossible to take the cute out of them, which leads to hours of frustration in CC to give up futilely and imagine them differently and accept the character will not look right. It is annoying but not a reason to diss the race as useless)

Did you guys read Mike Laidlaw's tweets addressing this issue? I like to imagine his curt responses originate from a subconscious source of shame and sorrow... :P


Are you talking about when he was asked if that was all of them and if they were locked? Or were there others I missed?

It's not that I hate the hair in and of itself. It's that it's grossly inconsistent with every depiction of female (and male, for that matter) qunari up until now.


Calling it inconsistent isn't really fair when comics and concept art does have to deal with issues in-game models have

For all we know Bioware did intend more hair options but couldn't due to either time, animation/clipping, or lack of resources from the CC

Well if time is a problem, they could always go and release a patch or even a DLC. Heck, I'd even pay for that.

Nope, those were the ones I was talking about. One Twitter user expressed disappointment in the hairstyles and asked if that was all, and he was pretty much just like "Yep. Sorry you're disappointed"

Nope nope nope. We should be able to create any kind of character we want (within reason). If I want to create an ugly elf or a gorgeous female dwarf (which I did :D) or feminine female qunari, we should be able to.

Then I'd just like for them to say that. Just be like "sorry guys, we really wanted to do long, flowing hair for the qunari like ALL our artwork depicts, but we couldn't because of xyz."

Yup, that's a big disappointment for me too. I don't remember all the hair/horn combinations right of the bat now, but I bet there will be other people running into this problem. They can live with one hairstyle, but because hair / horns are locked together they wouldn't get the horns they want. Or they want that hornstyle but are stuck with a hairstyle that they find atrocious. I just... who made that decision? That was really a bad idea.

I have no idea who was responsible for that choice. Agreed - it was a bad idea. Dumb. They didn't foresee the upset? I can't imagine they didn't foresee it. Qunari's CC is a bust. Blech. 

 

 People jumped down my throat when I said the "L" word earlier, but it's almost like the devs did the qunari hairstyles last and didn't have nearly enough time to make them look good. :\

Make sure she has horns, or you're stuck with a bald, blotchy female qunari. (ugh)

I don't see clipping issues with any of the horn/hair options available, yet I can't pair certain horns with certain hair options available. That is dumb. And as for needing more time: DLC please. I'll pay for it. I'll wait a year to download it then. I don't care.

It should have never happened to begin with. Like - christ people - just give her a nice beautiful cueball head. And the same should go for the mohawk. Get rid of those skull-lesions.

Yeah I mean...ugh. I get that's what some hornless qunari might've looked like but...really was a smooth head variant that hard to conceive of? I guess the jet black skin will hide it though but still =/

 

And yeah it makes the hornless hairstyles look awkward with those giant craters in them.

 

Oooh pretty :wub: See if the mohawk was a bit higher and available for all styles I could rock with it. A lot of the styles could've just been higher/thicker/fuller and they'd been okay. I wouldn't have been going ga ga over them but meh.

 

Bleh. The worst part is there's human styles I can see that I'd want for my qunari but she can't have =/

I'd pay for better hair. Probably... Assuming no one makes any decent mods before the dlc comes out. (PC Master Race!)

Nope nope nope. We should be able to create any kind of character we want (within reason). If I want to create an ugly elf or a gorgeous female dwarf (which I did :D) or feminine female qunari, we should be able to. 

that is the ideal. But there is no way for there to be every option, all the time. (I didn't want a gorgeous dwarf I wanted a really tough looking duster) But asking that every single possible option should be available or else it is bad, does lead to the idea that only humans is a much safer bet with them. There are 8 models each have to have things specifically designed for them.

 

Not including design, texture, model configurations, and each of these things have to work. If we want more races we have to sometimes accept that "every character we might want" may not be a possibility. That dissing a whole race due to it not meeting the standards you want, despite other possibilities, and then taking into account that each person have wants as narrow as yours.

 

That the only way to truly meet that qualification is to have 1 race=human that is fully customizable.

But if you had the option to have awesome/badass/rockstar hair - wouldn't you sooner jump on that? I think that's the point everyone is making. There's awesome/badass/rockstar hair for the other races. And there's the same caliber of hair for the qunari in previous games, concept art, comic books, and even the tarot card for DAI race selection - but you're left with settling for bald. :huh:  

 

Hell yeah I would. I was just trying to say where I would go with the offerings as they were presented to me.

I wouldn't be so sure that this is the hornless option. How do we know that it's not just the most extreme version of the stump options? We didn't see every single one of the hair/horn styles, just 90% of them.

I wouldn't be so sure that this is the hornless option. How do we know that it's not just the most extreme version of the stump options? We didn't see every single one of the hair/horn styles, just 90% of them.

The left pic on the 2nd row from the bottom is basically just the bun we get but a lot bigger and with the hair pulled back in stead of parted...

And I made Stens hair! Kinda...

And some long hair that would probably be really hard to actually implement but I drew it without really thinking and I love it so I kept it anyway.

OP please put these (and any other pics in this topic in a bundle for a Dev . Also , I recommand you put this pic and others at the beginning of your post *kinda like Companions Thread* so they dont get lost in mid pages ) .

The "hornless" qunari in the DAI CC looks like an elf, but with skin cancer on her head.

As for other races looking "too human" or "too elven" - there isn't much variation when you're working with races that are based on mammalian/simian physiology. 

 

If you want something that doesn't look like an elf or a human, then it needs to be based on reptiles, birds, or fish. (Otherwise you're going to end up with something that looks like a deformed monkey/ape.)

 

Sorry but I grow tired of the "We don't want things to look human!" crowd when we are customizing races that are based on bipedal simian physiology, right down to eyelids, fingers, ears, noses, and toes.

I resent that . Mass effect was a good exemple in giving us 'Alien' that didn't look human while being attractive and cool .

If you like a 'human' setting , then game should put all kind of humans beside the Tall handsome white mens and the Pretty blond . There are millions of variations we do not see . Since due to time , budget or engine restriction they cannot do it . We can stick with Alien..which is fine too . 

I'm one of that crowd , it is a fantasy/rpg game for a reason . If they stick it to just human normal then you wouldn't get dragon since they don't exist just like Alien .
