Oh, I completely understand with dissapointment, especially with variety, the inability to mix/match. Nothing is unreasonable.

It's just people are getting a bit too into insulting how the female Qunari looks. I get that it is not everyone's style, but I'm a bit worried F!Adaar will be the next Cassandra in that everyone wants to talk about how "ugly" she is. I mean you guys should get long haired options, but it is really frustrating that the discussion has to be couched that way. Hating the options available makes sense and is perfectly reasonable, but if we can stop insulting a particular look as so incredibly "ugly" it would be nice.

That's going to happen with every single gendered option. I'm amazed we didn't get racist comments yet about the M! Qunari.

Anyway, you could be right. It could have been a case of cutting corners. I'm not sure.

I like to imagine that Bioware let an unpaid intern design/develop the hairstyles for the Qunari... that thought makes me smile :P

I have to say, if they knew Qunari were never going to have helms, they should of thought of implementing more than 4 hair styles. Especially 2 of which are hardly ever used by anyone ever.
It's all rather disappointing.

I didn't even think about it that way, but you're absolutely right... if you're going to prevent an entire race from wearing headgear, you'd think they would have spent a little more time making their hairstyles look cool. Granted, they gave us some awesome horns...

I'm out of likes. I agree.

Qunari hairstyle DLC for 2015 please. ::waves wallet::

Seriously:

*throws money in the air*

I'm probably in the minority, but I would be willing to pay a LOT of money (like $35+) for an aesthetic DLC full of hairstyles and new clothes (like dresses for the Orlesian ball :P

The bottom line is that BioWare originally designed the humans, dwarves, elves, and qunari (for the Dragon Age series) ALL based on simian physiology with little variation other than pointy ears and height. The qunari weren't even originally considered ox-men, they were just considered giant men. Hence why Sten, as well as every other qunari NPC in the original game, had no horns. BioWare later added horns, but the qunari still looked humanlike. They didn't have hooves, walk on all fours like a centaur, nor did they even have body hair. Just horns which struck me as decorative. (And the devs gave them pointy elf ears to boot.)

My point being that there's no reason (not even a pre-existing reason according to previous GAMES) to uglify our customization options for a qunari under the weak guise of, "We don't want em to look too human or somethin!" Come on!

This is all wrong.  The Quinari were originally going to be ox-men just like we saw in DA2. However do to time and resources and all that they could not make a whole new model for them.  So they became big humans.  This is also how hornless Quinari were added to the lore.  Since it explains away Sten and his lack of horns.

Also I don't see Bioware claiming the hair options are to make them look less human.  It all has to do with clipping and function.

Personally I think it's pretty funny how female Adaar was looking like the #1 most popular inquisitor choice right up until everyone found out she has to look like a warrior and not a pretty princess fashion model

And now she's being dropped like an especially ugly hot potato

How is being upset that they have a whopping 4 hair styles complaining that they are not supermodels?

I don't see how there would've been an issue with clipping.

Not true, Sten was always supposed to have horns.  They were unable to render horns well enough in Origins, though, so they were told "lose the horns or lose the character."  The fact that hornless qunari are now canon is the actual retcon.  Making them oxmen in DA2 was actually just following their original design.

Fair enough if you don't like the restrictions that the presence of horns creates, but they definitely didn't "uglify" the qunari.  The horns and pointed ears look awesome to me.

Er yeah it can be considering making everything fit with the horns plus the hair physics, armor and weapons have long flowing hair with such a race. Yeah with horned races it can be an issue. Oh and lady nuggins and Jason are correct about sten bioware themselves confirmed it. The hornless option is actually a recton lol.

DA2 was correcting the race.

So all warriors can only be bald or have mohawks or cornrows as hair options? We should alert all the warriors who don't have those that they aren't warriors but 'princess fashion supermodels'.

All characters in Bioware games share CC resources except the very rare NPCs that get custom faces...
Now you might say Bioware should invest in content like this even  if it's more expensive than usual CC features. Fair enough. But I don't see it as being inexcusable any more than any other design choice based on how expensive a feature will be for the developers.

I think what most of us are asking for is the ability for hornless female qunari to either be completely bald (no ugly lesion-like stubs) or to share the same hair that the other characters have access too - that wouldn't cost any more money on the development side, which is why I don't think it's unreasonable to expect it.

The female qunari can easily be made to look striking and gorgeous. It's the hair models themselves that are ugly. Short hair doesn't necessarily make a woman ugly. I think Cassandra is incredibly hot because her hair looks cool and the texture looks good. The qunari styles are the exact opposite.

I never wanted a pretty princess fashion model. Sheesh. I just wanted some hair that actually looks good. That's not so much to ask for. Look at any of the concept art for female qunaris - they look like badass warriors (with nice hair).

Where does it say a warrior has to be bald? Or mohawked like a toddler? Or cornrowed to be a warrior? IRL women in the army can and do have long hair, they put it up in ways that are greatly more aesthetically pleasing than what has been provided - and could have been used as inspiration tbh.

Reducing people's disappointment to such a narrow arguement is pretty disrespectful. Though I agree with the opinion that the hairs provided are unattractive, it's the LACK of other options that is the issue. The lack of variety, the lack of an ability to make a person who isn't a 'warrior'. Warrior is not the only class, utilitarian not the only character archetype.

Huh?  No... I am not referring to the horns and pointed ears as ugly. I'm referring to the bland, textureless hairstyles and the blotchy dark spots for bald/hornless qunari. Those are ugly. Some argue that without the ugly blotches, the hornless qunari would look "too much" like an elf or a human.

Yep. That CC is more than robust enough for you to make a grizzled scarred up Qunari or a pretty one.

The face model is not the issue. It's the damn hair. Even if the only long hair was stuck to the hornless options. I could've worked with that.

More so the big ugly blotches on the skull of a hornless, bald qunari are what I'm referring to. It feels like they did that to "remind" everyone, "Hey dudes, this is a qunari." And it's ugly/stupid/kill it with fire.

I don't think anyone wanted qunaris to look like supermodels. The hair quality just is bad and hairstyles are flat. I'm all for warriors and that's why I'm going to play qunari but person can look tough and be still good-looking. The hair options just aren't nowhere near what we have seen as qunaris previously so they don't even seem like qunari hair to me, in every concept art female qunari has long white hair.

It's about options.

You want an ugly human? Go for it. You can also make a handsome/pretty human. Same goes for elves and dwarves.

With the qunari, we are forced to choose between three hairstyles that are all blandly the same - and terrible - and they do a disservice to the horn options we are given. Or we can be bald and look like someone punched us on the top of the effing skull.

Also I want attractive hair for my male qunari too. That doesn't make him a freaking princess....

This has nothing to do with definitions of beauty or ugliness. Just disappointment there are only four available, poorly rendered, nearly identical hairstyles that are locked to certain horns. We are all just trying to wrap our heads around why Bioware would make the decision to completely neglect a part of the CC that is important for a huge amount of players and limit the people who really looked forward to playing the qunari.

Exactly. And the hair is even too ugly for a male qunari. It's just bad hair. Sure, leave it in as an option for someone who wants to play a qunari with that style. Fine! But man... give us some OTHER options. Give us some volume in the very least...................

Hmph.

Well I wanted to make my femqunari attractive to me.

I'm not sure why that's some horrible crime.

I can do the same with the rest of my PCs. But wanting it for Qunari is unreasonable? Meh.

How many more pages is this going to have to go on until a dev gives it the minute or so of consideration that it rightly deserves?

We're not asking Bioware to delay the game so they can appease those of us who want more options for female qunaris... but I think we deserve an explanation/justification for 1) not letting us mix/match the hair/horn styles, 2) not giving us a proper bald, hornless qunari option (one without horn stub/lesions), 3) why a hornless qunari can't share hairstyles with the other races.

"Just because" isn't going to cut it. Mike Laidlaw's dismissive attitude on Twitter was a bit off-putting...

If they're just honest and sincere, I think that would placate a lot of us. Ignoring the issue and merging the Scuttlebutt thread with this one in the Feedback forum (which not as many people read/see) is like brushing the issue under the rug...
