Allan seems to be onto something here. Qunari horns are way more prominent than any hair they may or may not have, and it makes sense that they would favor styles that are more practical than pretty. I have no idea whether that's what was intended with the available hairstyles, but it's still brilliant.

Well not all qunari have horns and in every art (and DAO & DA2) qunari has had quite long hair, longer than current given hairstyles. I mean this was promotional art for fem!qunari Inquisitor:

So qunari are practical and wear short hairstyles, doesn't actual make sense lore-sense since qunaris have always had long hair except Iron Bull.

I think multiplayer is a stupid thing for DA. It worked for ME, but ME was a shooter.

And even then. I've always believed that when it comes to RPGs features like multiplayer should come last. As a thing you add once the SP is good and soild and has all the features and items and what have you in it.

However theres this consent push for MP (which I dont really understand) in these types of games. And its not even couch-co'op.

Exactly. I'd rather co-op with my friend sitting in my living room as we laugh and eat popcorn and make fun of each other when we die. I do not do the MP crap.

It's understandable to be worried about it

But they were given two separate budgets

A budget's a budget, whether someone draws an imaginary line through it or not. They could've dipped into the total amount of money and fixed the quality of hair options, among whatever else may come up short due to resource allocation for SP. Offering a second budget for MP means one thing: the company had the extra cash.

I truly think if a game like this is going to implement MP that the core game should be as close to perfect as possible (including the CC), and then start working on the MP, because if you run out of resources then MP can be scrapped and the game is still complete.

Seriously. The fact that most everyone was like, "WHOA HE IS BALD!" when they first saw Iron Bull speaks volumes.

I don't know if Bioware gets a fixed amount of time and money to do everything they can with it, but in other areas of software it doesn't work like that. Requirements are assessed and billed independently. So if you plan on multiplayer you need X money and time - if you decide you're not gonna make multiplayer, then you get less money and time. You cannot "use money that would have gone into multiplayer" to make more game assets or vice versa because each has its own budget.

That makes zero sense. You're billed independently, yet you're given X amount of money and time? If you're given X amount up front with a glass ceiling, then you wouldn't be billed independently for each thing you create.

So basically if you're billed independently, you create a game as it goes and push it to the best quality there is, continually accruing expenditures based on its progress and price of resources.

If you're given a pot of gold to spend from the very start, then the idea is to go over budget in order to receive a higher budget. (That's why when there is money left over in a budget it is considered a bad thing. You want to use all of it up - and then some.)

That's not how it works, they're not gonna dip into another sections budget

So it's not actually about hair but someone was worried earlier about how the skin looked around the male qunari's horns as opposed to the females. About how the skin didn't seem to blend into the horns. I noticed the qunari shown in the new crafting vid has a different texture there and it does appear to blend. So I guess it just depends on the complexion you choose.

Still bald tho

What I'm trying to explain to you is that the project, as a whole, has a cumulative budget. Departments are allocated money from it - yes, I get that you are making that point. My point is that the Dragon Age Inquisition project, as a whole, has a cumulative budget including single and multi player. They had the cash, but made some asslancing decision to allocate a portion of it to multiplayer when they should have solely focused on the core, vanilla game.

Someone had to give a department that money. Someone in charge of the full budget.

Yea, and if they solely focused on the SP the budget for the MP would go back to EA not the SP

DA:I SP and MP are two separate budgets

But they could have made the argument that they needed more resources, which would have been available if MP had been cut.

If DAMP is funded the same way as MEMP then EA gave Bioware two piles of money to fund different projects one is Dragon Age 3 and the other Dragon Age Multiplayer. The accountants and EA who live and die by their profit margin would not be happy if the DA teams were loaning each resources beyond what's agreed on, and those are only shared because it saves money. I'm not keen on multiplayer in general but I don't think DAI got shafted in order to make DAMP happen.

I'm rolling my eyes at the qunari have short hair because it's practical thing it's so obviously being said to prop up the CC choices.

1) the point is to provide players choice. Not restrict them based on nonexistent lore.
2) I've only ever seen one qunari with short hair(Armaas) so that theory just went bye bye
3) the pc isn't qunari(the society) anyway so consider that another page in the wind.
4) 4 options... brilliant? Seriously?

They could've done that regardless

You realize they was mostly referring to the horns as brilliant right

Which is why the lack of quality truly perplexes me. I don't know if they were denied further resources, but putting out those qunari hair options with pride is inconceivable.

It probably wasn't a money/resources issue and probably a technical limitation or time issue

I honestly don't believe there's a truly good reason why the hair for qunari would be of such lesser quality than the hair for the other 3 races. It should have been addressed, whatever the limitation was.

So, I know some folks are going to jump straight down my throat for "going there" by saying this, but I wonder if the devs hit that proverbial glass ceiling on resources because they implemented superfluous fluff elsewhere that has nothing to do with your single player experience.

*cough* multiplayer *cough*

Yes, MP is the reason for all your woes.

You can also unlock secret super fabulous qunari hairstyles by playing MP (as long as you pay for microtransactions).

Sacrifice hair for horns. Got that bit. But the end result of doing so was 4 hairstyles. That doesn't equate to brilliant for me.

People are blaming DAMP for Qunari hair options?

I know the real reason. It was obviously the decision to include humans in the game, they're always to blame for everything that goes wrong.

Little known fact, originally the Qunari were the ONLY PLAYABLE RACE... but then they axed them in favor of the more fabulous humans who totally stole all the hair options.

When it was decided that maybe it was worth bringing back the horny race as playable, the humans revolted saying they'd go on strike if they had to share hair with a race that already had fabulous horns ("We shall not let them have both horns AND fabulous hair, to arms my bretheren, Andraste will grant us victory!")... and that is how we reached the state in which we are today.

Better keep an eye on the qunari in game though, they WILL try to steal your hair... and your cookies.
