Please rethink qunari hairs.. or lack of them!

What makes this surprising to me is that during the CC demo, Mike and Cameron pointed out how if you changed the size of, say, your character's ears or nose, hair and facial hair would also move and adjust to fit. Yet... that wouldn't work for horns? Hmm.

I'd be so happy if there were sliders for the horns- the ones on the ladies seem so thin/delicate. I really liked how wide they looked in all the art released up until now.

David Gaider opines about clipping: "[color=#2c2c2c][font=Droid Serif'][size=3][background=#ffffff] I think the people who are most concerned about things like clipping are, in fact, our own artists and animators. I imagine it’s tied up in their (understandable and justified) pride in their own work,

I'm sorry, but this is bullshit. Don't tell me that any artist that looks at those Qunari hairstyles would actually take pride in their work. They are embarrassingly bad. That's just an objective fact.

It probably wasn't a money/resources issue and probably a technical limitation or time issue

Then they should just come out and say that (and explain exactly WHY they chose not to add more varied hairstyles). But they better not use the "time issue" as an excuse... The game was delayed an entire YEAR in part so they could add Qunari as a playable race. Don't tell me that during that entire YEAR they were only able to churn out four shitty hairstyles *rolls eyes*

So has anyone tweeted/gotten Dev response on this subject yet? Relying solely on this (admittedly popular thread) is a little unwise.

A LOT of people tweeted Mike Laidlaw about it. I saw some of his responses and was totally turned off by how brusque he was. It was like he didn't even care. He was pretty much like "yep, those four hairstyles are what you're stuck with. Deal with it." I'm sure he's under a lot of stress, but by totally blowing off your loyal fan's LEGITIMATE concerns, you don't really earn a lot of favor... I wouldn't be so pissed off about this issue if one of the devs was just like "look guys, we tried really hard to aspire to the concept art of the Qunari (which all features LONG hair) but we just couldn't because _______"

So more bad news for hair - in general for all races - you cannot change your eyebrow color. It changes with the hair color. This likely doesn't bug some folks but I tend to go for white hair and dark skin. White eyebrows will look ridiculous. (I usually make them darker...)
edit: at least that's what Laidlaw said on his twitter a bit ago. But I swore in the CC demo they had different colors. :sigh:

I heard that and I just sighed and shook my head. Who made that dumb decision?? I don't think I've EVER matched the hair color to eyebrow color... The eyebrows always need to be a shade or two darker, otherwise it looks bad. Guess I'm gonna have to do an all black hairstyle/eyebrow color now so it doesn't look messed up. Great. Thanks a lot Bioware.

At this point, I'm not going to bother with being upset or frustrated very much over this.  It royally sucks, there's no doubt about that, and I'm saddened by these textures being in a current gen game.  For now though, I'll politely request a texture fix for the hair, and just leave it at that.

The more the players tweet and email the devs, the more curt the responses will be.

You realize that they added more than just qunari as a playable race right?

So unless your a game developer yourself, time issue is a valid reason

Yes, I would be placated if there was just an official explanation released. I will forgive BioWare practically anything, just please don't brush off our concerns as if it's just childish whinging!

That's why I'm keeping here in the Feedback section.  Allan has been reading it, and I'm sure he's passing our feedback along to his co-workers.  Badgering the devs on Twitter and Facebook isn't really going to help, it's just going to annoy the crap out of them and make them less likely to listen to us.

Um yeah, that's why I added the qualifier "in part" when I said "the game was delayed a year IN PART to add Qunari as a playable race".

Obviously it didn't take them an entire year to just add Qunari. But you'd think whoever they tasked with working on the Qunari should have had PLENTY of time to design at least a couple decent hairstyles.

I don't have to be a video game developer to call shenanigans when I see them.

Bullying the developers isn't going to accomplish anything either.

That isn't bullying, unless they at rude about it

Though I can see the devs getting annoyed by it though

Uhh, tweeting the devs (provided it's just polite suggestions or requests) isn't bullying... :/

EDIT: It certainly would get annoying if it becomes incessant tweeting.

And I'm sure there is a lot of folks that are frustrated and probably using very aggressive language towards them as well.  I doubt that helps.  What's going to stand out?  The polite requests or the angry gamers foaming at the mouth?

Yep, asking politely for an explanation on it is perfectly fine

Just don't spam them with it lol

We have a month and a half, plenty of time for our issues with hair selection for the Qunari, Beard Selection and Hair/beard textures to be (hopefully) addressed

I can't imagine how much David Gaider's, John Epler's and Mike Laidlaw's tweet feeds blew up over the last few days.   I feel for the folks that had their hearts set on playing a Qunari, because this seems like a huge letdown.  I actually feel a tiny bit bad, because the female dwarven (my chosen gender/race) looks great, while the Qunari players are currently stuck with heads of clay.

Not really. If they couldn't even add a nickname in when they had three times as much time, I highly doubt they can address these parts of the game.

Same as any unreasonable outrage here on the forums, devs know to ignore stupid people though.

Hence why I said "polite" tweets, nothing wrong in particular with those (provided it's a few tweets, not a massive flood of em).

Yea I'm a bit disappointed about the hair too, though I can overlook them and hopefully they can polish the textures on the current hair

There's a difference between adding a bit of dialogue and polishing textures

I'm betting they have been getting flooded by a lot of upset players.  It's also hard to just ignore so many angry tweets.  This is how you get blanket statements from DG about "all gamers thinking devs hate their freedom."  Which isn't true at all, since I know that most gamers aren't like that.  However, his comment is based upon experiences like this.

I read the thread in it's entirely and I can't go more than 3 pages without someone mentioning that they sent the devs a tweet.  That's just in this thread alone.  I'm sure the beard thread has done their fair share too.

I figure that I'll leave the devs alone on twitter/facebook and just express my frustrations here.

Regarding textures, at least, I think I read the latest CC demos we've seen are from an older build than some of the other demos we've seen recently.  So it is at least possible that the hair textures will look better in the final game, even if the hair styles they are applied to don't improve.  We can always hope.

But is polishing textures 3 times easier than adding dialogue?

You have to polish the texture and then go through the game to make sure the new polished texture doesn't bug, clip, etc.

How about waiting until the game is released and see how the hair looks like on your own computer or TV before jumping to conclusions?

If they devote one of their DLCs to hair and sacrifice other content they have planned. Alot of people are going to be upset.

And yes while people have the right to be upset, theres more to this game than hair.

Very true. Dialogue requires getting the VOs back in the studios, after the writers have written the new lines. And then there is getting said lines into the game through scripes and coding and animation.

New hair/beard styles and texture is work for the in house art team.

That said, Who knows, maybe they'll have someone address "Scribbles" as such in a future DLC. Or maybe add it as an Easter egg? We dont know yet.

1.5 months, Hope lives until it goes to be...uhh.. I think its called certification? press? I cant remember the term.
