But is polishing textures 3 times easier than adding dialogue?

You have to polish the texture and then go through the game to make sure the new polished texture doesn't bug, clip, etc.

Textures don't clip. Meshes clip.

And it's just a matter of fixing the highlights and specular map. They don't have to create an entire texture from scratch.

How about waiting until the game is released and see how the hair looks like on your own computer or TV before jumping to conclusions?

If they devote one of their DLCs to hair and sacrifice other content they have planned. Alot of people are going to be upset.

And yes while people have the right to be upset, theres more to this game than hair.

I don't think the problem is so much specifically the hair, but the lack of quality and attention in comparison to the other three races. It feels very rushed and lesser, and that's (at least mine) the main objection.

I'm betting they have been getting flooded by a lot of upset players.  It's also hard to just ignore so many angry tweets.  This is how you get blanket statements from DG about "all gamers thinking devs hate their freedom."  Which isn't true at all, since I know that most gamers aren't like that.  However, his comment is based upon experiences like this.

I read the thread in it's entirely and I can't go more than 3 pages without someone mentioning that they sent the devs a tweet.  That's just in this thread alone.  I'm sure the beard thread has done their fair share too.

I figure that I'll leave the devs alone on twitter/facebook and just express my frustrations here.

I'm not really disagreeing with you, I was just pointing out that tweeting in and of itself shouldn't really be called "bullying" (unless it actually is).

I would never even tweet them about anything to begin with, I figure it's annoying as hell for em (if I was a dev I would just ignore em all :P )

Very true. Dialogue requires getting the VOs back in the studios, after the writers have written the new lines. And then there is getting said lines into the game through scripes and coding and animation.

New hair/beard styles and texture is work for the in house art team.

That said, Who knows, maybe they'll have someone address "Scribbles" as such in a future DLC. Or maybe add it as an Easter egg? We dont know yet.

1.5 months, Hope lives until it goes to be...uhh.. I think its called certification? press? I cant remember the term.

Part of me still hopes they were lying to keep it secret and it is in there. They've done such things before. But then I remember that 90+% of things I have hoped for in this game have not happened so wonder why I even try anymore.  :(

To get back ontopic, certification(which is commonly referred to as Going Gold since you were asking) happens at least a month before the game is released so in truth the devs only have a couple weeks left.

You've been a forum friend of mine for almost a year, and I've watched you get disappointed left and right.   I wish I could do something for you.  All I can do, my friend, is this.  This is also for all the folks that have been frustrated over the hair:

A penguin hug can offer much comfort to the needy.  Unless the penguin in question is cold and icy, then it's just disagreeable.

Certification! yes! That was the word! Thank you, its been a while since I've really paid closed attention to the development of a game that I've forgotten some of the words.

And if it does normally happen at least a month before Launch then, well... ah screw it. I'm going to remain positive. - Because I've already broken my promise about never pre-ordering a Bioware game again, so why not be positive

Okay, I'll quit with the derail.

I would say it's a matter of both quality and quantity.

The hairs, when shown in the CC demo, appeared to have less detail and poorer texturing when compared to those of other races. That is big problem.

But it's more than that; there were only 3 actual hair meshes (plus a bald option which requires no hair mesh) for the entire race, repeated multiple times with a few different horns, so hair in general is a pretty big problem. It means that no matter what option you select, you're only ever seeing those same three. Rather than 20 unique options, there are a bunch of pseudoreplicants that overlap significantly, dramatically reducing the likelihood of having style/horn pairings that appeal to different individuals. So even though the horns are nice and fairly diverse, they are not very well complimented.

Considering how prominent hair mods are and how many topics appear regarding hair, I don't understand the rationale.

At this point, I'm just hoping for a slight revision to the textures, and a full head hairstyle for male qunari. I've begun to be afraid that we'll only get bald or a buzzcut. Sigh...

We know that broken or sawed off horns are a sign of danger or intimidation amongst the qunari, so i wonder if the opposite is true within the constraints of such things within the qun. Perhaps this is the cause to why they made sure the horns look so magnificent. Perhaps the Vashoth also see these two views as a common ideal as well, cut horns / no horns dangerous, fearful, and large majestic horns as things of beauty.

I'm wondering if a Vashoth who dislikes the Qun would saw off their horns as a symbolic way of distancing themselves from it?

That's how I'm going to justify my "hornless" Qunari's scalp lesions...

I would absolutely agree with that, but I think if the quality were there there would be fewer complaints. \it could be at least justifiable, based on the loveliness of the horns.

Forgiveable at the very least, if only the quality were there.

When they said we could go hornless, I thought that we'd, you know, actually get to be hornless.

The short mohawk will look great on a male Qunari, even if it is of lower quality.  Making it a black mohawk should disguise that fact anyway. The black mohawk combined with a darker gray or bronze skin tone should look good........ were it not for those damned blotches on the scalp.  The only way to disguise them would be to make my qunari's skin jet black, which isn't something I want.

I am still holding out hope that the male version of the hairstyle (if it exists) that completely covers the blotches/lesions/stumps/whatever is something different than the atrocious center part bun thing.  Seriously they can't have *that* as *the* hornless male hairstyle can they?  Can they???\

I heard that and I just sighed and shook my head. Who made that dumb decision?? I don't think I've EVER matched the hair color to eyebrow color... The eyebrows always need to be a shade or two darker, otherwise it looks bad. Guess I'm gonna have to do an all black hairstyle/eyebrow color now so it doesn't look messed up. Great. Thanks a lot Bioware.

I have no idea who made that decision but it feels all too familiar. "Your eyebrows are anchored to your hair color choices." (Hmm... hairstyle is anchored to hornstyle choices....)

This is only slightly off topic, but the more I look at this incredibly sophisticated upcoming character creator, the more I think I should scrap everything, get a gaming PC, and just play these kinds of game. Too bad I absolutely despise MMO's.

I want a fabulously smooth scalp like Vivienne's, not one that looks like my guy's horns were ripped out and the resulting wounds were cauterized.

There might be slightly fewer complaints, perhaps a tad less vitriol, but I don't think just upping the texture resolution would be enough to dispel most of the annoyance felt by players. A lot of people would still be wondering why those 3 meshes were cycled through repeatedly. Especially since two of them look rather similar from most angles. It really narrows down the available workspace. At least that's my sentiment.

What if that's how the hornless qunari was meant to look? lol  ;)
