It's best not to take concept art as what you'll actually get. Since concept art tends to be much grander than what will actually be in the game.

That's true, except the tarot cards can't really be classified as concept art if they're what's featured as an in-game depiction of the Qunari... It's honestly closer to false advertising. Or, at the very least, trolling.

Yep I was expecting shoulder length buns and ponytails... Welp jokes on me I guess.

I wish someone *cough a dev cough* with technical experience could politely explain WHY ponytails wouldn't work... If they use the mud cap--I mean "bun"--hairstyle as a base and just glue a ponytail onto the back, how would that cause clipping with the horns? The ponytail wouldn't even come close to the horns!

I wish we could get a cornrow ponytail like sten :(

Also, I don't understand why the bun hairstyle has a middle part... The only time I've seen that is with Princess Lea hair... When most girls put their hair in a bun, don't they just pull it back (which, with some texture and volume would look MUCH better than a middle part...)

And I doubt the dev team will respond to this, since they haven't already. Allen most likely already brought it to their attention and Mike Laidlaw already addressed it on Twitter. I don't think they really care about our silly little concerns at this point, since the game is almost gold and they just want to sleep.

Usually girls just pull the hair back and there is no middle parting in buns. I'm not sure how you can you get middle part like that when doing bun in the IRL. It seems that for horned qunaris they used corncrow's hairstyles front view in the bun hair as well.. this is why I first referred it as corncrows to bun-style since it seems like that. In the hornless style there isn't as big middle parting.

I'd prefer it without middle parting as well and with more volume, it doesn't look bad when looked right from the back but otherwise it's just flat and middle part is weird.

i cant say im reaally happy with the hairs option... they are just ''messy'' they look unfinished... i was hopping for more.. dwarf,human,elves... have plenty options and they look great... but qunari just dont appeal me.... i know we are close to release, but i really wish something could be done to their hairs... if not then i wish a modder will be abble to fix that and give us something pretty to play with

As far as I'm aware, modding the Frostbite 3 engine is notoriously difficult, if not impossible at present time.
But any hypothetical mod would only work for PC players... Console peasants shouldn't get the short end of the stick when it comes to Qunari hairstyles :(

Half-serious question: should we think about starting a kick starter fund for more Qunari hair options? If only to raise awareness for the issue, since the dev team seems to be ignoring us...

I think we should wait a bit longer before creating any kind of kick starter funds. The devs are probably swamped with messages and tweets right now, and if I heard correctly I think that Allan(?) said that he was going to see if he could have a word with them about it. We probably should wait until we hear something from them first.

Going a little far with the false advertising thing. The tarot cards are still art and not an example of the in-game appearances. I don't like the hair either, but they never tried to misled us about what we were going to get.

I'm not saying I'm going to sue Bioware... but featuring an in-game depiction of a character with long hair--even if it is stylized art--and then ONLY giving us three super short hairstyles ABSOLUTELY is misleading and could easily be classified as false advertising.

When I saw that tarot card during the CC demo I was like "ooh, she's gorgeous!" but I knew there wasn't going to be any hairstyle THAT dramatic or long. But you better believe I expected more than what I saw. And I think a majority of people who were excited for qunari as a playable race were disappointed by the shoddy level of detail put into the Qunari's mud caps.

Heck, Bioware put more effort into designing the freaking necrotic horn craters than the qunari hairstyles. They should have re-organized their priorities. The horns are awesome, but if we don't have at least DECENT hair to complement them, a lot of people are going to pass on qunari all together.

I'm not sure what they could say, at this point there isn't really anything they can do since the game will probably go gold within the next few weeks.

I'd be happy with an official explanation, personally. Just a simple "Looks guys, we wanted to do this for you but couldn't because of [specific reason x,y,z.]" I don't want some PR mumbling though, so...

Tarot cards for Qunari Inquisitor (we select race in the game with chosing them):

tumblr_ncgkkjq7k01qj7r9ko3_r1_500.png

It's like.. the hair is little different than what we have as options in the game although the card is representing qunari Inquisitor ;)

I'm sorry, but I think this *is* an example of them 100% misleading us. The cards represent the type of qunari we've been used to seeing, then you get to the CC and our options are slashed and restricted. I can't even pick the horns I want.

Sorry, but that is some grade A level bs.

Backlash was only expected.

It is unreasonable to expect BioWare to defend many thousands of elements of game design against any 'false advertising' accusation, either real or hypothetical.

By this standard every game cinematic of the past 20 years has been false advertising.

Whether they were trying to or not, the fact is they did. When 100% of the Qunari you show, whether that be in previous games, expanded universe, or concept art, have medium or long hair, it is only logical that players will think that those lengths of hair will be available. If I show several pictures of pickup trucks to people who have never seen an automobile before but then give them only a few hatchbacks, I have misled them whether I intended to or not.

To be fair, cinematic advertisements for games are freaking BS and need to stop.

I think a kick starter is a good idea. Though let's put it on the back burner for now and wait to see if we get any information from devs. But I reiterate that it's a good idea.

Question: By what time, and based on which conditions regarding dev feedback, should we begin a kick starter? If we brainstorm now, it'll give us an idea of planning ahead.

I haven't read all 60 pages but enough to know people are disappointed about the hair styles. I can't disagree.

First: The horn options are cool. I can picture somebody rubbing their hands together and saying, "Cool. We can do Qunari? I'll make ram horns, antelope horns, decorated horns . . .  this is so awesome!" And they would be right! They are awesome and unexpected. All the qunari/kossith/tal-vashosh horns I remember seeing in comics and DA2 were pretty similar. Frankly, I figured customizing your horns would be limited to horns, the rare hornless, and maybe really short where they were sawed or broken off. In DA2 the stubs were nowhere near so close to the scalp.I would have been fine with those options and I got a lot more.

Second: Hornthusiasm overrode all thoughts about the hair, imo based on results. Regardless of horn style the horns grow from the same place. I think some hairstyles could have been created with that in mind (could still be just 4-5) so that they could be switched around and separate from the horns. The mohawk and the bald would be the same for horned and hornless. You could have a loose, what is it called, french braid(?) that would end low on the nape of the neck so that it is still close to skull but be a bit fluffier. Sten's hairstyle from DAO could be used with all the horn options. This and the french braid would need two versions (horned and hornless). Or give the hornless a different option, maybe something like Tallis' or Aveline's hairstyles (w/o A's signature headband).

Hair has been a longstanding complaint for many DA fans. Much as I like the horns they don't take the place of the hair. It feels to me like somebody forgot that or didn't think it was so important in light of the horns. I disagree with the people who say the Q's should have as many hair options as other races; not when there is horn variety. I think hair and horn options should be separated - I suppose I should say 'should have been separated' - with a bit more diversity in the few hairstyles offered.

That's just my opinion. Lackluster, similar hairstyles but really cool horn options.

One reason I love the trailer for Dues Ex: Human Revolution. While it is a cinematic trailer, you can do everything they show in the trailer.

This is something you'll be looking at for the entirety of the game. If the quality was as good as the three other races there would be far fewer complaints, but honestly we got gipped in the hair department.

Well, we are gonna be staring at our characters for 80+ hours, so having a good hairstyle is pretty important. Plus all the other races got nice, pretty hair, so why shouldn't we?

I honestly don't think the devs expected backlash of any sort... why else would they proudly show off the female qunari customization? I think the devs deluded themselves into believing we would be just as excited as they are. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason we STILL haven't heard anything official on this matter is because it took them by complete surprise. They probably regret even showing us a glimpse of the qunari customization because this is just a (minor) headache for them leading up to the launch. I bet they will just continue to ignore it. They've never given us additional hairstyles even though we've begged for it since DA:O (there were VERY few good hair options from their past games, so this debate is nothing new)

I actually disagree completely. In this particular instance, I think a response from the dev team is the LEAST they can do to assuage our concerns. Clearly this issue has traction--the thread reached 50 pages within a couple of days!

That's pretty ironic coming from a person with an avatar featuring long, flowing locks of hair. Your avatar CLEARLY cares about his hair :P

And if you can't empathize with us, then why would you bother posting in this thread?? I'm so baffled by that. I see so many threads on these forums that I don't care about at all, so what do I do? I ignore them/don't read them/definitely don't post in them.

Is it really so hard to grasp? In general, people want the character they're playing to be interesting. In a game with a cc, hair is a huge part of making their character appealing.

Oh, I don't believe that the devs expected backlash. I just meant that for the fans lurking here - they seem shocked by the backlash - and/or by the fact that this thread even exists, lol.
