With the idea that all the fem qunari will look more or less the same just cause of hair.

Well I have to disagree. Hair is a key defining feature. As Roofie pointed out, when you take it away, people look so similar, it's jarring. And as I said, narrowing down hairstyles en masse, like say shaving one's head, is what they do to prisoners in labor camps as an attempt to dehumanize.

... but they will? The act of ensuring every single Qunari has short-no hair does in fact make them pretty much uniform. As someone else in this thread said, it's like people in internment camps whose heads were shaved. Ofc they were still unique individuals - but the act of removing their hair made them less 'human' and basically indistinguishable if you didn't want to look. When you have 50 Qunari character creators posting pictures... they will all blend together because the first thing a person notices aside from eyes is always hair.

What's No 1 - a nude patch?

I'm not trying to be disrespectful, I don't know.

The last time I modded was on Oblivion and there all the mods appeared to be hair, nude patches and, oh, some weapons, armour and houses.

Dragon Age Redesigned is no.1 it's a aesthetic mod with NPC facial improvements and fixes.

All that social understanding was fostered in a world that didn't contain people with giant horns of varied shapes and sizes on their heads.

Uhh ok, never said they were, but it would be one of the first things you notice, probably before hair.

So? We're the ones playing that game - with that social understanding.

Your argument is practically moot when you take into account that every single canon representation of Qunari has had hair of varying lengths, styles and decoration.

Seems like you cannot recreate any qunari presented in media materials or previous games and that includes their horns. Arishok has double-horns and they seemed to be huge. Correct me if I am wrong but no double horns has been shown so far. Also some female qunari in artwork have smaller, shorter horns like http://img1.wikia.no.../Qunari_DA2.png  - no such option is available in CC.

I knew better than to expect for us to be able to re-create the hairstyles of the qunari from the concept art, but you bring up a really good point: the smaller, shorter horns from the original female quanri concept art are missing from the game. And that sucks because I REALLY liked the sleek, discrete profile of the horns. But honestly, I could make do with some of the cool horns they gave us... IF they had given us some nice hair to go along with it.

Now, Hair update in a free patch would work. In fact. EA is doing something much like that for Sims 4, adding things in for free via free patches.

I'm praying to the Maker every night that they do a Day One patch to add some more hairstyles (or at least improve upon the textures of the existing mud caps...)

I have two qunari Inquisitors planned down and hair is important part of their personalities:

I had a female qunari mage planned as my very first playthrough... I had to scrap that entire idea and it messed up all of my other plans because I had the party compositions/romances all worked out, too. It definitely sucks :(

I am pretty sure I will be hide-helmeting the Vitaar though. I think it's cool that they did that but I would rather they had done something else in the place of helmets, like horn adornments would have been fun.  :P

Yeah, I'll be hide-helmeting the Vitaar, too. And DAMN! Horn adornments would have been awesome... like gold bangles or black ribbon or stuff like that...

Anyway if this is such a big deal for people , they are probably going to look at fans reviewing the game , just say in your review "Boooo Qunari Hair" . ;)

If enough people mention it , they will probably talk about it.

Half-serious proposition: anyone that isn't satisfied with the qunari hair options should post a negative review on Metacritics specifically mentioning the ugly hairstyles for Qunari to lower the average of the game as a whole and force Bioware to respond with a patch/DLC :P

(THIS WAS A JOKE PEOPLE  - I'm not *that* mean!)

The first thing you notice about an elf are the pointed ears. Their ears are not the only defining characteristic you can customize on their heads.

It's not moot, since it counters your claim that they would be indistinguishable without varied hair. Whether they had varied hair in the past is irrelevant to that.

I image some of these mods are great but also I'm expecting a fair amount of cruft...

They are less distinguishable with a lack of hair options. The core complaint of this thread is: more options. We want to have a little more wiggle room to create *our* characters. And no matter which way you argue it, hair is an incredibly distinguishing characteristic. It's also a physical feature we're instinctively attracted to vs horns. We are impressed by horns, sure, but horns are not something that is part of our genetics. Hair indicates (on an animalistic level) things like physical health/strength, reproductive health, testosterone levels, estrogen levels, a balanced diet, pigmentation mutations, and the like. Horns are fun, but we prefer hair options too. And that's not all that bizarre considering it is instinctively engrained into our DNA...

Roofie made a good point but it does not support your conclusion. Two people with the same haircut are more likely to look similar than two people with different haircuts but that doesn't mean they will. There are other defining features.

... but they will? The act of ensuring every single Qunari has short-no hair does in fact make them pretty much uniform. Shaving heads was not the only thing done to make people look uniform. I doubt that you and I would look that similar if we both shaved our heads and we don't even have horns.  :P

Spoiler

Both these images are of Female qunari with the same hairstyle but they do not look the same and there isn't a lot of uniformity between these images. That's not even as different as you could make two female qunari look in the CC in fact they are similar in many ways. Yes hair greatly hinders verity and hair is an important defining feature, you were correct there but there is still a decent amount of verity for female qunari in the CC.

Exactly, I guess that wouldn't have worked for the hornless and sawn off horns Qunari though. That might be why they didn't do that.

*snip*

Oh none of us are disappointed with the amount of control we will have over the Qunari faces, nor are we let down by the variety of horns - thrilled in fact! It's the lack of hair variety, and the lack of quality to the pithy few we have been provided that is the major issue. There is NOT enough variety there, by a long shot, with regards to hair. Especially as they have for some silly reason decided to tie hair and horns to the same option bar.

I don't disagree that folks will be able to make some very wonderful Qunari, but they will become uniform very quickly. It's uninspiring in its limited scope. The other races will have a lot more freedom in producing more distinct personalities due to their hair list being much longer.

Neither are qunari's horns.

You're missing my point and arguing for the sake of arguing.

The customization of the qunari comes in a package. Just like humans, elves, and dwarves - yeah you can customize the qunari's face. But you can only barely customize the qunari's hair between 4 "hairstyles" that are: 1. of poor texture/quality, 2. the same length and cuts with minor variations, and 3. Three of which are actually hair and the fourth is bald. Add to that the fact that if you want to go bald and hornless, you're stuck with giant blotches on your forehead. That also applies to the mohawk style without horns as well. And as for the qunari who wishes to go hornless but actually have hair - she isn't allowed access to any of the numerous hairstyles that are allowed for the other races (who do not have horns).

And you keep pushing the fact that the horns are the fun/unique thing we get in lieu of the hair. Well, not really. I am ok with the mohawk, but I can't pair it with one of the three horn styles I want. That is ridiculous. I keep settling for less, but options are slashed left and right.

You can play devil's advocate some more if you want, but it doesn't alleviate the fact that the qunari CC sucks.

Thing is, you are entirely at liberty which you judge as "cruft" and which as worthwhile. I certainly would not place higher resolution textures and redone meshes of hair in that category were those to come to pass, which I hope they do (one can't claim that DA:I's hairs look too great in general).

Looking at those, one could be forgiven for seeing quite a bit more than just a passing resemblance between the two. It could also just be the same preset, but we do not know that as of yet.

Not a bad thing in and of itself if uniformity were the rule for the grey giants as a "trait", mind you, but still.

If you just stopped after this sentence I wouldn't have any issue, but using real world humans as the basis for relative importance of characteristics of a speculative fiction creature is something I'm still not jiving with. To me the horns on qunari are more defining than their hair. Remember how Allan had to be reminded that the Arishok actually had long flowing hair? Because everyone remembers his ginormous horns, the hair is just kinda also there.

It would also be pretty limiting thinking this way if you got a character creator for fully alien races like turians and krogan, not just mostly human with some twists like qunari or asari.

I agree that the lack of hair options is a problem and it does limit verity in what you can create. I still don't think that means they will become uniform, there is still a lot that you can do. Maybe not as much as other races but still a decent. Look at the males they have shown so far, all of them have been balled yet they all looked completely different.

The qunari are based on human physiology. They are mammalian and simian. They were never originally designed to look like reptiles, fish, birds, or even bovines in spite of the sheer novelty of horns. You're going to have to deal with the fact that their horns are a novelty - a twist as you put it - because the rest of their appearance (arms, legs, fingers, bone structure, toes, nipples, genitalia, lips, buttocks, and skin) is human.

If the qunari were originally designed with bovine jaws, hooves, tons of bodily hair, giant cud-chewing lips, swinging neck flaps, and udders in lieu of simian breasts - then you can argue that a hairstyle is not definitive. (Hell, you could argue that a hairstyle on that sort of creature would look grade A stupid.)
