If I were to make a Qunari - though right now I REALLY don't want to, I've been put well off - I would make a bald one with horns. It's the only palatable choice for me.

I'm envious.

The horns I absolutely love are each with hair that I hate.

They do come with a bald head but they are plated - unless you can turn that option off, I have zero clue. But I'm not keen on the bald head, though it is preferable to everything else aside from the mohawk. The mohawk would have been totally do-able without horns (for me), but they put in those blotches. It's like road blocks keep smacking me in the face.

It could be worse. You could be me. I dont like any of the four choices we have.

Oh, you misunderstand. I don't like any of the choices. I just tolerate the tiny mohawk. It's like brownbagging someone's face before sleeping with them. If I'm gonna go through with it, I'll try to band-aid my displeasure with something concealing.

I'm not going through with it, though. I'm just going with elves/humans. ::brofist::

Yeah, I don't like any of them. Bald is just the lesser of all the evils for me.

lol. This all makes me laugh. It's like ...we aren't picking out our favorites or squealing with joy. We're sitting around picking through garbage, looking for the least moldy piece of bread.

The Qunari have been moved to the way bottom of my play list. Which is sad. I was really looking forward to playing a sarcastic qunari lady.

I'd be really interested to hear from anybody who wasn't going for the mohawk, tbh. I know I'm going for it as none of the other three options appeal to me at all, and I get the impression that my experience is a rather common one.

Is there anybody willingly going for bald/mudbun/cornrows, assuming the bun isn't getting a decent texture upgrade before launch?

I'm leaning towards mud-bun. Mohawk looks best (not impressed by it but.. best of the bad one's) but it doesn't fit to my character. So if I somehow can make the bun look tolerable in the game I'll use it.. not happily but still.

I've seen some bad hair styles.... Skyrim's Elves come to mind. But even Skyrim's vanilla hair is better then this

I'd give my left kidney for Dragon's Dogma hair. Even just the short ones.

So harsh but SO true!

Now see, if I were one of the artists/devs/technical people that worked on the Qunari hair and I heard something like that, I would feel inclined to respond, if only to defend my work and/or explain when/how I was going to fix it.

Instead? We get SILENCE from Bioware.

But I think they pretty much have to respond by the time we hit page 100, right? Right?!? :P

Is making hair easy? I don't know because I've never made hair since I am a noob. I just make armours and weapons. But this is what I have so far extrapolated from my month of learning 3D art. Maybe a proper artist could chime in?

Here is an example of a custom hair for Skyrim.

Step 1. Make a mesh

At 12,500 polygons, this is quite a hefty hair, but developers usually don't use this many. Trying to pretend that this mass of tentacles is hair takes real vision. You'd think this was a mutated octopus at first glance.

hairmesh.png

Step 2. Weight painting

This is to make sure that the various parts of the hair move with the head or body properly. This part is a really tedious pain in the bum. It can take many days to do this properly if the hair is long.

hairweight.png

Step 3. Unwrap the UV map and make 2D textures

Example of part of a texture (lower quality and cropped) that was using alpha channels.

TL;DR if you're hoping for new hairs before release, forget it.

I just kinda punched them off my list. I'm not keen on femqunari race gating. (Solas fan.) And so I can't justify 100+ hrs of game play with sub par looks and asexuality.

Elissiaro has come up with a tone of wonderful hair concepts for Qunari and I decided to put together my favorite ones

Qunari_HS_Collection.png

Seriously, they could put these ones in the game and I'd be happy.

Edit. There was also the French Braid one in Part 2, that I really liked that I forgot to add

They could try to put those in the game, though I can see it being harder than it looks

I'm considering going bald if I can find a set of horns I like. Perhaps the golden ram horns. Cornrows are an absolute no though.

It doesn't matter if it's hard or not. BW team managed to give other races more hair options and they all look lot better what we have for qunaris. Thousands of games have hair in them. It's not like BW can just say: hair is too hard everyone is bald now and we will be: okay totally understable!. Everyone just wants qunari to have as good hair as other races and not these 4 hairstyles that are flat and have bad texture.

ha! Maybe.

I feel bad insulting someone's work, but after seeing human and elf hair - I'm holding the proverbial straight A art student to a higher standard. Qunari (hair) CC is an F.

Most of us aren't asking for changes before release - we know that's unrealistic so close to the drop. We want after release patches or DLC.

Well I had planned two fem qunaris, one to romance Cullen (I had planned this half year..) and other to romance Solas (since Dorian, Cass and Varric slowly were gated from her). And I got neither. So I had to change other of my qunaris to male and the other one.. is probaply forever alone.

I have no interest in the mohawk. I think it's great they added one (even if it is kind of a sad, pathetic little hawk...) but it's not my style.

I wanted someone like Xena: Warrior Princess for my female qunari... I *might* just go with the bun, but lately I've been thinking of having her be fierce and bald, like Vivienne.

That is, IF I end up doing a run with a female qunari... I might just skip it now, to be honest.

Good post.

It's amazing, the time people put into mods. I'm a console peasant, so I rarely see the results firsthand.

Yeah I was planning to make my fem qunari be solo, maybe go the lesbian route, or settle for Blackwall who looks exactly like my father (whose guts I hate). (Solo looking most likely.) But since I can't even find any viable options for her freakin head - forget it. I'm done jerry-rigging the qunari game play. Lost cause! Lol. The only thing that would get me to be a qunari now is if there was amazingly unique race related content that isn't so easily summed up by a YouTube vid.

Mostly just because they were still being worked on.  It would have done no one any favours to show incomplete long hair only for it to not be in the game at all for release.

I can understand that people are going to be disappointed because they were hoping for something different or more, but as you say concept art is concept art and that's the starting point for coming up with a vision, but there's still a full process of putting it into the game.  Hopefully with systems in place we can do more going forward.

could we expect a dlc that adds more hair styles and colors?

I would pay for such a dlc because I love to mess around with my chracters looks

I doubt there will be much unique race-related content, but I am definitely planning on playing qunari at least once because I have a feeling that the qunari war with Tevinter will play a big role in the sequel (or it might get relegated to DA:I 3 if the Dalish revolution takes precedence in DA:I 2...) So I want to have a qunari character ready to go for that :)

I think I'll still do a qunari playthrough, because her look will remind me of the personality I want to play, which rarely happens when I play human.

When I play human I have to put in so much effort not to slip back into what *I* would do instead of my character.
