I would assume that would also eff up the console, making it crash.

Not usually. If anything, the most awful eff-ups just cause the save-state to be unplayable.

They can't put hair and horns in separate sliders, they were put together for a reason

Even with only the current options it's arguably better to put them in separate sliders. You just need to make one slider dominant and have it decide which options the other one allows. That system is present in the Mass Effect games.

If they added the easily doable combinations (like mohawks with every horn) two sliders with a handful of options each would definitely make it easier to find a desired combination than one slider with dozens upon dozens of options. Having two separate elements in one slider is a deterrent to adding possible combinations as it can quickly make the amount of options covered by it troublesome.

What I mean is they was probably put on the same slider because there might have been an issue with both being separate

My core argument is that it comes in a package and that neither one is more or less definitive. We are given the option to not have horns. We are given the option to not have hair. That way the people who find one more definitive over the other can just swing whichever way they please. It boils down to opinion, after all. However, the horns were given far more attention than the hair. We have a lot of horn options and only 4 hairstyles that are each similar and of low quality (especially compared to the other hairstyles for other races). Those who prefer hair get the short end of the stick.

Furthermore, we have all these cool horn options, but they are *locked* onto specific hairstyles. This does a disservice to the horn options because it cuts those choices down by even more if you are willing to settle for less than par hair and celebrate your favorite horns.

See, I'm sorry, but I think everything I'm saying is quite logical. People have different tastes. The qunari's appearance is a packaged deal with options inside. But those options are limited as hell, even when you have other options just staring you in the face.

Sorry for the late reply (i had to go and do stuff). I don't disagree with any of that I just don't think the lack of good hairs limits verity to the point of uniformity, I still think verity is incredibly limited especially compared to the other races, I just felt like you were over exaggerating the problems this causes. That's just my view though, I guess there is a lot of subjectivity in this.

Btw I love your new (flawless) Amanda Palmer avi.  :P

Honestly, I think that the most likely thing to happen is what we have already seen is what'll be in game. As for males, it'll be even worse I believe. Maybe a buzzcut, cornrows and bald.

Well, I might sound like I'm over-exaggerating, but I still can't shake it from my general opinion. It feels like the styles we have will water down the variety of the fem qunari.

Hm. How do I explain this...

Ok. It feels like if I sit down and make a fem qunari, I will choose a hairstyle that comes with set horn options. I will then choose one of those limited horn options, likely a popular option. (And likely the hairstyle I choose will be popular too.) So, as I design the head of this creature, I will wonder how many other people are choosing the exact same horns/hair. I can change the skin color, eye color, and facial dimensions a bit. But as with every BioWare game, the bodies are all the same, plus there's extremely limited hair, coupled with limited horn choices (that come with the hair of choice). :/

Much like a chorus line of dancers, I don't see much diversity here.  Sure, they aren't carbon copies of one another, but they look cut from the same cloth.

I dunno. I see quite a bit, it is odd how they picked similar skin tones for all the defaults though. It is incredibly disappointing and I can see how just a few more/better hair options could make them look so much more diverse.  :( I am just trying to get out of this negative mood.

I was curious about what the bronze color looked like. What are all the skin colors for qunari anyway....? As for the pic I linked, I just don't see it. I see facial variations, sure. Nothing extreme of course (e.g. missing eyeballs). The horns don't stand out to me, honestly. If I saw a variety of hairstyles (of different colors) coupled with the various faces, and adorned with different horns - that whole package would seem more diverse. That plus a wider variety of skin tones would help.

Also - yes. New album. :)

I think there's going to be a heavy skew towards a few of the style/horn combinations. Bald is typically not a popular choice from everything I've seen, yet that comprises pretty much a full quarter of the existing options. The mohawk might do a little better, but I still don't think it's historically been a hugely popular style; it requires a fairly particular character concept, and that's another quarter of the options. This leaves me expecting a flood of characters all sharing the same 5 or 6 combinations (if that). That seems an almost a greater resource sink than having just made a few more hairstyles with less horn overlap, as these probably would have seen more use.

Mind you, all of that's just me extrapolating from very limited and possibly biased data. I'd still wager money on it, though.

So MD just posted a video saying she is doing a Q&A with a tech artist from Bioware (who is working on DA:I).

He might be the kind of person who would have answers about this issue and it might be worth letting someone on the art team know about this (assuming they don't already). He apparently works mostly on environments so don't expect anything but it's still worth sending MD some questions to ask, in my opinion. If a lot of us comment about this Issue It's more likely she will ask one of our questions.

Oh and please try to word your questions in a respectful way guys.  :P

Um they show most, if not all of them in the twitch stream.

Spoiler

So there are several different shades of grey, from very light to pretty much black skin. Then there are those greenish greys and a few bronze colours.

My girlfriend Quesha would tell me to shut up/she hates her hair, but I so love black ladies' natural locks. (Especially when it's super tall/wild/gorgeous!) But that's coming from a Caucasian with boring hair. Lol

Black woman need to learn to love their features for what they are and stop nuking it to glue on some Indian child's hair.

I would be surprised if people like Mike haven't already been bombarded with it.  Haha.

gotta agree... first thing i did when i saw it this morning was tweet him. no response, but i imagine he's aware of the qunari hair issue. i've been saying since qunaris were mentioned that i'd be making a female qunari based on this design i did a while back when i made her in SoulCaliburV:

Eh. We all hate our hair, and/or other body parts. Actually she keeps her natural hair, she just complains of it. I'm like, "dude your hair manages to be gorgeous and badass..." But I feel her. It doesn't matter who you are, but if you have a lot of hair, then it's a hassle one way or another.

This would be my ideal design for a male qunari. I'm down with metro. ;)

I think I captured all of the qunari skin tones under the spoiler below.
A couple of them look very similar, but if you look at the slider to the left, they ARE under different positions!

So about getting the word out regarding qunari hair - what if you guys (who use twitter) formed a hashtag? (ideas: QunariHair, QunHair, QunCC, etc.) Ask for patches/dlc/whathaveyou through that...

Combine that hashtag with the #bioware hashtag at first to let them see the requests, mockups, poll results, and other feedback. It seems like all these devs use twitter and solely communicate through that. Really the only hitch is to keep it polite, civil, and logical.

I wonder how many hairstyles are actually used by players.  I know I always go shave head, buzzcut, mohawk, or something ceasar-y for men.  If I make a female character it is usually buzzcut, mohawk or ponytail.  Not a fan of longhair on men, don't want a huge amount of craziness on the gals.

Is there an image that combines all of Ellisario's mockups? I'd like to use that when I tweet. I think I'll use #HairForTheQun
