I'm wondering if maybe certain hairstyles mean something to qunari.... perhaps these mysterious qunari facepaints (i'm sorry it's slipped my mind what they are called) and face/head pieces for them include some variety of... wigs/hairpieces?? Maybe that is why the default hairstyles are all short; so they dont't clash with said wigs/hairpieces. Wouldn't that be so very tricky?

Vitaar it's called I think. But if there was wigs for pretty hair wouldn't that have been their 1st answer to complaints ?

Edit: Also, that pic is a dwarf ?

It seems that other races and genders share hairstyles, this is them:

Qunari have unique hairstyles. I can only guess but I think devs had problems with making shared hairstyles work with horns and they decided to do couple unique hairstyles. However they lacked time/something else to make them as good quality as shared hairstyles are.

Personally I'd have preferred if they took couple of shared one's and reworked them to work around horns. Like the swept-back styles, they would have been nice.

Just a quick remark, I don't see any reason for the qunari mohawk being so short. A longer one would have looked good and it couldn't have interfered with the horns because it'd still leave the sides bald

Trust me when I say that the ability to gender bend characters - through beards, Adam's apples and bushy eyebrows - is a HUGE deal to some of us. Dunno if it's more of a deal than long Qunari hair but it's something that a few folks (while undoubtedly a minority) will appreciate for much more than a few seconds.

Yes the ability of make trans characters is nice. I'm not sure if dwarf female bears was given for that reason, might be but I wonder why same thing is not available to human and qunari females ^^

Qunari hair is different case, it's not about inclusion, rather it's about aesthetic that are quite important in games and CC.

I can appreciate this, and had such options been available to all, I wouldn't take such issue with it because the intent would have been clearer. As it is, only female dwarves can have facial hair, so it comes off as a bit of a gimmick. As far as adam's apples go, I don't think the comments were directed solely at female characters, but rather at the rationale behind implementing this one cosmetic feature across all races while more conspicuous CC options were overlooked. Hair is an extremely prominent and defining feature, and players want their characters to demonstrate a certain aesthetic that is reflective of their personalities. This is much more achievable with hair than with adam's apples, for the majority of players.  Hair is eye-catching and difficult to overlook if done poorly. Moreover, we've grown used to having a plethora of options to choose from. Adam's apples are new, and while neat, they hardly seem compensation for a lack of so conspicuous an option as hair, at least for qunari.

I am, however, glad that you and others can now access content that you feel offers greater inclusiveness, and I would not wish those options removed.

Based on a recent video is it possible that they add more options to the character creation in dlc or were they talking about future games?

It comes down to trade-offs: designing new hair models is expensive, but making some features universal across similar bodytypes may be less so (which is why we see hair styles shared across same-race genders, etc.).

Likely future games (they alluded to this) but it's hard to say at this point - if ME3 taught us anything it's that devs will sometimes cave to pressure if there is an overwhelming demand for it. I don't mean going about it in the same manner as those that were unhappy with ME3 did (of which I was one; I didn't bash it but was very unimpressed), but showing that yes, there is a large number of us who would be willing to *pay* for these to be added, so it's not like we're asking for a freebie.

If the devs think we are being unreasonable with this I would be highly surprised; I don't think what we're asking for or what we're proposing to see it happen is in any way unfair, and maybe I'm an optimistic (that would be a first) but I will continue to hope that they will seriously consider it for DLC content until such time as we get an out and out official 'No'.

I think that when the game comes out and more players are aware that Qunari hair choices are limited, they will either speak out about it, or shrug and pick a different race.

Hopefully the former, because it might expedite an appearance pack DLC.

I would've gladly traded in adam's apples, dwarf lady stubble (it's not really a beard per say), and a good number of those fugly eyebrows for some qunari to have access to the human/elf hairstyles.

Does it feel like the DAI CC is slanted more toward making your character look awkward? I'm not saying it should be slanted either way, but rather more balanced out. Like, how about more than one well groomed set of brows? How about at least one shoulder length hairstyle for qunari?

What's with the friar tuck hairstyle btw? Is that one really so popular? Males already have a few short/shaved/bald options. Maybe get rid of that and replace with one feminine qunari hairstyle? Or maybe get rid of one asymmetrical or broken horn option?

I mean... I get it. Players don't want idealized beauty options shoved down their collective throats and taking over the CC. Well, other players don't want the opposite of that either. Let's balance it out, sheesh....

Hold on. I totally want idealized beauty (I mean, maybe not *shoved* down my throat but...). Let's be fair here. ;)/

I'm saying Bioware (from my perspective) is catering to the crowd that strongly opposes idealized beauty and aesthetics. Thus, the options are feeling lopsided to me.

"Oh where's he going to have time to maintain his eyebrows? Bushy eyebrows galore!" is the paraphrasing of what the devs said during the demo.

Part of me is thinking, "Cool it's an option for people who want to play a character that way, but why is it the dominant option?"

They are obsessed with "realism" so much that it's murdering the fun of being lost in fantasy.

Yeah, I CAN adventure around with perfect eyebrows. How?

Imo, the defaults should all be pretty people (or at least ok/average looking), because most people either want to be pretty or don't want to spend too long on the CC to look good or just want to pick something that looks nice and start immediately. And you could still easily make something atrociously fugly by toying with it for a few minutes

I want realistic beauty, but beauty nonetheless. I don't think perfect eyebrows for an adventuring woman are far fetched at all - tweezing (or using twine, which they would surely use in DA), takes no time at all as it is, and certainly no more then a man shaving, or a woman shaving her legs, etc.

The 'who's going to have time for it?' excuse is a weird one, perhaps born from lack of context? Surely these people understand women well enough (or have seen player-made characters from previous DA games) to know that so very few of us would ever want caterpillars for our character's eyebrows.

P.s. The beard thing is just something I personally like on female dwarves hailing back to my early D&D days as well as LOTR, though beards =/= stubble, and I wholeheartedly agree that there were WAY too many unnecessary stubble options for females. I just think beards are beautiful on certain women (and men).

Conchita Wurst (and yes, I'm aware she is a 'he' and not trans -- scroll down to pic 3 -- but I adore him/her all the same~ <3)

Spoiler

THAT ... annnnnnd:

lol I have to keep reiterating this. I get tired of people forcing realism on the whole fanbase in a fantasy environment.

That's your opinion - not a fact. The same goes for what I said. Thus, let's call it a draw.
