Ohhh... I was stuck in DA:O thinking. It may be a frostbite thing then?
I still think even with such restrictions they could have come up with something more like a dress.

I guess I wanted to do kind of middle.. I wanted female warrior who had hair in tight ponytail and looked good while swinging greatsword ^^; But yea it's odd that people act like you can't want to have something similar as concept art or comics of the game had. It's not like we want to break lore or sth ^^;
Meh I just started to tune it out after a while.
...in which case, you are stuck with the ugly necrotic horn craters. Lovely!
I can't get over how stupid that is.
I'm fine with bald (though I'd prefer shaved particularly for females).
But with those stupid looking craters on the head for hornless?
WTF?!?

Another tada for the ball!

The day that's proven otherwise by actual action is a day I will happily eat my words. As it stands, we're three for three. Unless you count selling the dragon armor during the dwarven noble origin and wearing the ugly dresses you can buy til they are taken from you. Or maybe the equally ugly wedding dress thing the city elf gets. I don't really count them, but meh.
Addendum: Though at this point I'll take those ugly dresses back if it means no pant suit.
Yeah, this is what should happen to whoever thought that was a good idea:I'm fine with bald (though I'd prefer shaved particularly for females).

Hawke's MoTA outfit comes to mind.
:::shudder:::
It was rather frumpy.
Not quite sure what you're trying to imply about that weird looking pants suite thing Hawke wore... frumpy is not a word I really use... if you're saying is an example of something sickening feminine and old fashioned I wonder what the hell culture you're looking at. Her outfit screamed young male noble brat.
I would have even been fine with little barely-there nude horn nubbins, but why black lesions?
Really =/
It's just so...bleh looking.

OH god, agreed, Bioware are *bad* at making formal-ware, but my guess is the problem with the ball dress is the movement of the material around the legs, which likely also comes down to the "cutting corners" to get the game released in time. They would have needed to invest a reasonable chunk of time to see that animated nicely, something that they seem not to have considered important enough. Seriously, have Bioware ever actually *met* women? Have they actually talked to their female staff and gotten feedback about any of these issues that they seem to deem so unimportant?
I don't generally play female characters that are girly, but even I was looking forward to something a bit "fairytale" about the whole orlesian ball thing (in amongst the political intrigue, etc), at least some very small part where we might be able to get to share a dance with our [future] love interest and have them make some flattering comment. Geez.
Going to a freaking ball in armor.. ergh.. even femshep was classier then that in her fugly little black dress.
I don't like any of the formal wear in all DA and ME we've had so far except a few of the choosable ones for the Normandy. I'm a tomboy, I play tomboy characters, I don't give a flying f@#% about dress codes and neither should my characters if I wish it so. I mean, you can model a fugly dress if you want, but don't force it on our characters, how hard is it make a little slider like the Normandy casual outfit has ? Or even a toggle between fancy orlesian thing and combat attire. Hell you could be even lazier than that, have the Inquisitor be asked "so are you gonna dress up ?" and you say yes, you get the fancy orlesian thing, say no, you go to the ball in combat attire.
So back in the topic.. I wonder if they are going to show us qunari male hair and beard styles before launch. We have seen two of the hairstyles (bald and mohawk) so far and I'm eager to know if qunari guys have mudbun as well since it'd fit best to my character.
I'm pretty sure they confirmed beards for qunari so I wonder if those are same that humans do. If they are there isn't exact beard I wanted: something that was on the chin only or Tony Stark beard.. but I can settle with Abraham Lincoln beard.

Oh if I was going to make a male qunari, that is so who I'd model him on! Robert Downey Jr.!

This would be mine, and I still want him to do a voice for a male qunari someday:

Outta likes. ![]()
Ron Perlman would so make a good qunari
He always reminded me of Canderous Ordo from KOTOR fame, personally. ![]()
I want to be able to tap into characters like the Arishok and that sexy Qunari guy from Mask of the Assassin expansion for my male Qunaris - sexy! Sadly both of which have hair the likes of which are unavailable to us. :/
I just hope I can have mudbun with the beard. It'd be akward to have less hair than beard.
To go off topic again for a sec re: the Orlesian Ball (sorry I'll go under spoilers cos it's one of my image heavies again xD):-
On topic kind of, I never plan on male character playthroughs in RPGs. I tend to be unable to connect with them. In Mass Effect, I only made it through the first game as John about 3 years after getting into the franchise - couldn't do the rest of the games with him. In DA:O I made it through on one char, who I adore, but only because he was voiceless. And in DA2 I tried, I really tried, but I couldn't get out of the prologue on m!Hawke, the voice acting actually made my skin crawl. It was a visceral negative reaction I'd never expected.
Being able to connect with my chars is exceptionally important for me (if I don't like my char I don't make it through the game) - and that connection is first established during the CC. When I pick her hair that not only shapes her personality, but the face I give her to go with it. Sometimes I fail, and I don't enjoy my character once they're in the game - and that's on me, not the CC. But when you limit things exponentially - the FOUR hair choices Qunari get with horns, or the TWO without (one for each category actually being bald) - it's no longer entirely on me. The limitations are on the game-makers.
Being able to play a Qunari is actually really a big deal for me... I don't know if that's come across. I love them. They're one of my favorite fantasy races. To feel so alienated just because of hair is really... it's sad for me and surprising. I wish it weren't true, but it is. I admit coming from a world of modding has spoiled me in a lot of ways... I've had CC freedom for a long time. And for other races in DA:I I will still have that freedom - my Dalish is going to be 'the t*ts' as my friends say - but my connection with a Qunari is going to be hard to find because I won't be able to shape the CC to my ideas, my ideas will be limited by the CC.
I really want to play a Qunari. Right now, I don't think I can.
Wow... that got heavier than I intended.

I guess I consider myself very lucky in that I find it easy to connect with both genders and feel attracted to both genders (likely due to my sexuality), so it opens up a huge number of roleplaying options for me, but at the same time i understand that there are those people who cannot play as the opposite gender (or their own gender, in some cases) no matter how much they try - my boyfriend is one such person. I don't think that makes them any less imaginative for it, though.
Everything else you said, I 100% agree on:
Yes yes yes for the ball gown! I think something like that would be easy to pull off and make it look fancily Orlesian with some additions here and there, and no obstruction of the legs. If obstruction to the legs causing clipping and/or animation was the problem, a solution like that wouldn't have been far-fetched - the only part you would need to actually animate is a little at the front and of course the back of the dress which, if it were a heavy, rich material, would not need to move so much as a light floaty material would.
I *become* my character when I play these games, so if I can't make them in such a way that feels absolutely right (I could never play with a preset, for example), then I have to start all over again. That was one of the things that made the CC in DA:O and DA][ so horrible - terrible lighting in the CC that made them look different in game.
For me, I find it nigh impossible to comprehend playing as a female or male qunari because of that hair - because I would never make a character with those hairstyles; it's just not me.
I personally I will play both genders, though mostly male for DAI I think cause I don't like romance options for girls (especially qunaris and dwarves) and I can't stand walking and running animations that female Inquisitor has ^^;
Problem for me is that I can't play character whose looks I'm not happy with. It doesn't need to be perfect but I think the hair will most likely bother me in every cutscene and dialogue. I'm not confident that I'm able to do character I'd be happy with, with current options we have.
Also I have hard time imagining my qunari characters and qunaris overall with the current hairstyles : /
It doesn't help that literally every single piece of concept art for female Qunari has shown them with long hair (and take into account the fact that the concept art is what got most of us excited to play female Qunari in the first place...)Also I have hard time imagining my qunari characters and qunaris overall with the current hairstyles : /

I think male qunaris have same problem as well. Iron Bull so far is only bald qunari we have seen and all previous male qunaris have had hair that is almost shoulder lenght.

Heh I wonder if the Arishok from DA2 returns if he'll have his normal hairstyle so once again NPCs can do whatever they want, but we are overly restricted.
