I agree with you on the limited hot keys but I like how there handling the Health and healing.

Having a Long term resource from a Strategic point of view can be rewarding as it encourages the player to effectively win not only win. this adds a constant challenge to the game even if the current encounter is easy.

accepting that they are using a long term resource there were two ways to do this.

They could have used mana and stamina as a long term resource but this discourages players form using their abilities and can make playing less enjoyable  as you are punished for using your powers to there fullest. Making health the long term resources means that your are encouraged to spend your short term resource to your fullest ability to protect and sustain you health. Throwing out spells and talents as fast I can in order to protect my party and effectively destroy my opponent sounds much more fun then having frugally manage  mana so it can be used to restore hp.

You're not going to be throwing out anything fast with those cooldowns.

:(

and if the maps really are so large and dense as they said in the Twitch video, I sense much slogging back and forth in the future

"a healing spell, my kingdom organization for a healing spell" -Richard III (probably)

I guess my Quizzy better get his hooker boots and get ready to strip for potions

Its definitely not funny

That it certainly is not.

Well can't wait for my 1 hit kill weapons to be modded in. Cause I can't be bothered.

Might have cause to play a female inquisitor after all :P

I'm really not sure what they are thinking with these changes.  It seems needlessly restrictive

Dragon Age: Tedium

To encourage pre-planning is the listed reason (but I can't shake the idea that its related to MP in someway)

We can change them any time out of combat iirc

Clearly they weren't looking at Skyrim or the Witcher when looking at gameplay

I can see a lot of Mass Effect 3 influence in the combat- 8 slots, small number of med packs, combat rolls and Fade Step looks a lot like Vanguard's charge.

I agree, but this seems like we are in for a lot of walking back and forth for healing and potions, especially if you aren't the best at DA combat

We don't actully know the amount of backtracking this will create. Maybe potions drop more commonly once you get down to a low enough amount. Maybe there are mid-dungeon campsites. According to the live stream, health regenerates up to 10 or 25% depending on difficulty, so you'll never be completely out of luck either way.

You can chance during exploration. The main problem is that it doesn't seem you can change the setup during combat.

I guess I'll just go cry quietly in the corner over all the things in combat that I hate now. This isn't the game I wanted at all, and I never thought I would say that about a Dragon Age game. :(  I'm really not hard to please, but this just....

Maybe, maybe not. These "camps" are probably going to be more numerous than people are thinking right now (especially given Allan's comment).

Looking at a sci-fi shooter for guidance on a medieval fantasy rpg is such a silly idea it didn't even occur to me

Or you could just look at the map in the demos. There were quite a lot of them as I remember.

I still like the sound of every change made so far with exception of the skill bar.

XD

I mean the fewer health potions? Yeah I got that.

The no basic heal spell? Uh...

The needs focus group spell? :(

Dragon Age: Backtrackquisition

Because we're out of potions because for some baffling reasons the companions are too lazy to hold 8 potions a piece. Lazy bastards.

I see much save scumming in my future. Yay.

If there's limited save slots I will lose it.

Wish it was.

:(

 This just sounds so tedious.

Probably because that's comparison of mechanics is reaching really far.

I agree. Even if they didn't want to give us Access to ALL abilities, they Could've increased at least at 12, with a third slot on console.

Mass effect had bloody regenerating shields. How can anyone compare.

I swear, it's like the devs hate fun or something. Even if you couldn't spam potions and healing spells in DA2 at least the gameplay was dynamic enough that you would never die in an fight so long as you knew what you were doing. But not only they are putting even more limitations that DA2 already had, but they also increase the difficulty twice as much. Now I will likely feel like an noob and be forced to play the game on casual just to survive till the ending.

That's a good point. The system is radically different from the past games, and seeing it played by others isn't Probably enough to judge it completely.

to be fair, the devs for ME3 said they were going to raise the difficulty and that game was a breeze even on Insanity

so I'll take the "we are raising the difficulty up to 11" with salt

According to Lukas, a seven year Old Without experience (and with his eyes closed sometimes) managed to playing it without many problems in defeating enemies, so it seems easy will be really easy.
I'm going to start playing on normal though, because I want to understand completely how the New gameplay works before trying higher difficulties.

I'm still going to start the game on Hard like I do every game. If it gets too annoying I'll scrub it down to normal, something I never do. But hey, they're changing the rules, so they're forcing my hand there.

I really doubt the developers hate fun, because the new system looks like it's leagues ahead of the old one in entertainment value.

Also, I really don't understand this aversion to playing games on easier difficulties. What is so horrible about it? It's the way I play Tales of-games all the time. I run on normal until I inevitably brickwall into some ridiculous boss, and then I lower the difficulty and breeze through the rest of the game.

Didn't you know that if your not playing on hard/nightmare difficulty it makes you a filthy casual? seems some people believe that

I could go on about people asking for a more challenging game after DA2....I could point out all the times I've heard old school gamers claim things are just too easy these days and that it's time you whipper snappers had to WORK for your happy ending....but you've all already made up your minds so I'm just going to post the following and go on about my day.
