I actually find elementalists to be THE most boring type of mage ever conceived - but I'm more than willing to see what they have planned before running through the streets declaring the ruination of gaming as we know it.

If you're looking for something other than an elementalist, a crowd control/debuff specialist is a massive power trip.

There's nothing quite like debilitating every foe on the field so they die a slow and torturous death. Utterly powerless to flee or fight. As they fall, your party, completely untouched, laughs maniacally at their fruitless efforts to move or attack.

BAHAHAHAHAHAhaha... ha...

...uh... I mean... CC and debuffs are fun.

@Arvaarad:  And I'm sincerely hoping that there's enough in this game to keep me occupied without incessantly spamming "ice" "fire" and "lightning".  I totally agree with you that cc/debuff is a great way to go.

But if not - I'm going to survive and enjoy DA:I regardless of what graphic my combat powers take.

@ElementalFury106: You fool... you are not ALLOWED to rage.  That is reserved for monkey alone... instead, you may "Feel the FURY."

Go on now... begin feeling fury.

@ElementalFury106:  If I'm a troll - you're going to need fire or acid to kill me - seeing as you're so tradition based and this game's roots on in D&D.

Also - I regenerate, thanks!  Now I don't have to worry about that sticky "no heal" thing.

I'm really positively suprised.

Limiting healing and resources like this... making player's party slowly deteriorate while it descends deeper into the location... that's a very 'hardcore' and oldschool thing to do. I don't think something like that's been around since Icewind Dale - where resting in dangerous location was near-impossible and resources were scarce. You sometimes had to engage a boss, that was extremely difficult with a party far from being at it's best.

Thinking ahead, planning, saving resources and avoiding damage... after DA2, which was clearly created in order to attract more than just RPG fans, I'm very suprised that BioWare pulled a move like that.

It seems, that unlike the previous title, Nightmare will actually be hard in a satisfying way - and not in a frustrating "how many damn waves of enemies there gonna be this time" way.

Right, so yeah...I give it an hour before someone mods off the potion cap. I will then download that mod. I am not a fan of this design choice.

You guys are so bad at proper raging. Here's how you should have reacted:

"No healing spells?! This is an outrage, the only reason they've had to remove healing spells is clearly because of Multiplayer!!!"

See, it's easy. Link the change to the creation of DA multiplayer and suddenly you'll feel 100% more angry. :)

They removed healing spells because of all the romances.  So when you come back from battle you have that feeling of danger and you were lucky to have made it back before healing items hit 0!   Makes the feeling of seeing your love even more precious. And people who identify with my sexual preference feel this emotion more than people who are different from me and Bioware is going to give me more romance options in DLC and I will have 1 more person to romance than you have to romance because they like my orientation more!

Maybe.

I prefer "enhancing my chosen gameplay style."

And that playstyle involves not having annoying non-regenerating health with a potion limitation and no healing spells.

@NextArishok308:  Are you equally upset about Glyphs, Hexes, Anti-Magic, Debilitation, Sleep, Death, Draining and Telekinesis schools?  Because the vast majority of them disappeared in DA:2.

I was somewhat disappointed however there was enough remaining from those schools and the addition of the new school of force that it didn't end up being much of an issue. Plus the trees in DA2 were far better than the DAO trees. DAI however is a whole new kettle of fish because they have made far more changes, changes which appear to have ultimately reduced options for mages in particular, although I'm still sad we don't have bard or ranger rogues.

The healing doesn;t bother me as much as some although it seems to lean towards mages having barrier as an essential spell in their 8 options which further results in reduced options at higher difficulty levels.

So, I haven't heard much of anything about Healing magic. There IS a basic healing spell, I hope?

Mike Laidlaw ‏@Mike_Laidlaw

Nope. Guard and barrier. No healspam.

So yeah, if we wanted a tougher game, we sure got it.

Health does not regenerate; only way to heal is drink potions (limited stock per companion), use other consumables (they mentioned a grenade that heals the party), or "rest" at camps we've established.

Sheesh, I am a gamer who enjoys a challenging experience but this is going to be particularly brutal on Nightmare.

I mean, I think DA:2 had a good premise when it came to healing spells. There was only one, it was basic, and it had a long cooldown so it couldn't be spammed. It was even more scarce considering only a Mage Hawke and Anders had it readily available, considering Merrill doesn't have the Creation tree and Bethany is gone most of the game.

I think no regenerating health is a solid challenge, but not even a basic healing spell? Even one with a long cooldown? Seems a bit out of place, considering the franchise we're talking about.

I'm not worried since they will balance the game with the lack of healspam in mind. I expect enemies to do less damage than they did in the previous games and the games encounters seem set like in Origins rather than the enemy waves of DA 2. This means with proper planning you should be able to crush small encounters with little health lost especially with the use of Barrier. Barrier is going to be the #1 most important talent in the game.

Best change they could have implemented. It's fantastic from a lore perspective because having healing spells so powerful is very stupid and it's fantastic from a gameplay perspective because now your crowd control skils are important instead of spam heal. Also you are not locked in bringing a healer speced mage. Brilliant design choice.

Optional friendly fire on the other hand....

Did everyone just ignore that he clearly says there's even a potion you throw like a grenade that allows everyone to gain regeneration?

"IF" that goes into your potion que... it's crazy powerful because you can carry eight (10) on one character alone (which would be 40 altogether).

And if it's not part of the potion que (and he didn't make it seem like it was) - then it's even MORE powerful.

Why is that a bad thing? If you want friendly fire you can have it, if you don't then turn it off. No downside.

I get the impression that Barrier will have a long cooldown so no barrier spamming. Though I suspect you'll want to cast barrier at the start of every major fight.

I disagree with this as well. No matter how hard you want the game to be, you can still make it challenging while still allowing healing. Lots of other challenging games do it (Dragon's Dogma, Dark Souls, etc).

I had seen in one of the gameplay videos a group healing icon. Is that gone too then? :/

A healer is like...law in RPGs, hahah

i ran out of likes for today, so + 1 like in message.
