Define horribly - was he simply auto-attacking through?
Watch the video, he admits to just running in without a plan. He had plenty of ways to solve that without taking much damage and did not use any of it.

yup, rather ticked about this one. going to make exploration a ******, and boss fights a nightmare. even normal difficulty sounds rather over-challenging. can't recall the last RPG (if any) that did something like this. and i think there is a REASON for that/ for insanity difficulty? sure, would work great, all about it being a nightmare to beat. but hard and below? nope, do not want, in fact, i bet MOST people would prefer NOT to have this set up

Didn't take advantage of cover, walked right into a telegraphed move, didn't lay any traps, very little scouting with the tactical cam...
In short, he played normal as if it were casual. And even then he didn't play that well.

I was ticked by it until I realised that I ran through both DA:O and DA2 without healing spells and did just fine.

Perhaps that's because When you ran through both DA:O and DA2 your health returned to full in between combats?
When Bioware mentioned the limited healing at Pax a year or two ago I was definitely worried. I play on harder levels but only after my first couple of playthroughs at lower levels. And I hate micro-managing my party. But it seems to me that a plethora of options have been provided to us that should make healing something we rarely need to do. In my personal opinion this makes more lore sense.
Healing is difficult and rare in the books/codex. People keep saying healing magic is common because we had healer mages previously. But to me that's not a reasonable way to look at this. Instead we need to ask how many healing mages do we actually come across. I can't ever remember running into a group of mages that were all able to heal each other. At most one or two are capable of creation magic if any of them are. So now at a time when the circles have been torn down, mages are rebelling against order, and in many cases murdering everyone in sight we don't have access to a Spirit Healer mage. I would've liked to have the playstyle as an option but I just find it hard to agree that we're being screwed over. Especially considering the quality skill level of the mages we do get access to.
But maybe I also feel this way because I think it opens up more playstyles. In DAO playing without a healer is doable but in my opinion not much fun. There were excellent CC options but when you got into a sticky situation there was nothing like pulling out a Mass Heal. In DA2 you didn't really need a healer but that was because you had dozens of high quality potions you could whip out at any time. To get around the cooldowns you could just carry different types of healing potions and it basically made you unstoppable without any need to change your tactics. This time around you don't need a healer but it's not because you can just swallow a drink whenever you get ready. It's because whether you're a warrior, mage, or rogue you have tactics available to mitigate/negate damage. And while it seems like you do need some form of tank it looks very possible that a mage could fill that role as a Knight Enchanter. So maybe you can't role with just 4 rogues in your party on Hard level but I still don't believe I've been artificially gimped somehow. To me the 8 abilities limit and the lack of a combat wheel is more important than the lack of healing. And even in those cases I consider my gripes small. Anyway long story short I'm really looking forward to this game. Hopefully it turns out good for some of you guys that are worried.
@kindschlager: Why would exploration be a ******?
Is it the 2 minute Focus Heal that's supposed to be large?
Is it the Regen potions or heal grenades you get in addition to the 8 heal potions?
How about all the mitigation making healing pointless if you pay attention?
Or perhaps it's the Drain Life on Hit gear you'll eventually be able to get?
The fighter's "Guard" ability maybe?
Do we still need a rogue to lockpick? Because that was one of my BIGGEST gripes about the other two games

According to the video, there will be special areas only each class can access, if I understood what they were saying (warriors smash down walls, mages use magic to repair stuff, etc)

I'm pretty sure it's already been confirmed that the answer is yes on that. Why is that a gripe for you?
I agree with the OP, you can make it challenging but don't make it ridiculously hard. Hell, Cameron Lee died in the CC and gameplay stream because he ran out of healing potions. I at least hope there is upgrades where you can have more healing potions per companion but 8 is just too small and restricting. I'm fine with not being able to make health poultices anywhere but to have only 8 of them is not fair for players who go out and find a lot of the necessary ingredients. Same goes for the abilities, why only let us have 8 abilities? I know for me on the PS4 we only have 8 in the UI but I want to be able to have all my abilities available, just the others I have to use my radial menu to use like in the past games. I know I'm gonna love this game but no healing spell, limit health potions and only 8 active abilities is gonna be the things I hate about this game.

Because it made me feel about rogues what people now are voicing about (healing) mages; you ALWAYS had to have one in your party. This is where I agree with people who are neutral/positive about the lack of a non focus based healing spell: the ability to take whomever I want to wherever I want. Because to me, I couldn't understand why in terms of gameplay, I have a character who can slice through enemies and crush skulls with an ax or whatever, but he couldn't break a chest or smash through a door (a skill I'm aware is now implemented). Granted I wanted unlocking spells too, but as there were none mentioned in the lore, it was't too big of a deal.

On the one hand I understand what you're saying especially from the perspective of being able to take anyone at any time. On the other hand I think if you didn't have to use Rogues to unlock chests then it would make the class seriously gimped compared to the other ones.

Not really. Because at the time you didn't need the other two classes (especially warrior) for anything that specific. A mage was the only way to get your health back if you didn't want to use potions, but other than that, you could totally play without one.

You do have options to carry more potions per companion as you progress through the game.
I know what you mean about the 8 ability slots. Most people, myself included, absolutely hate the design.
Up until those 2 particular design decisions, I felt like this game was making perfect decisions.
Perhaps that's because When you ran through both DA:O and DA2 your health returned to full in between combats?
No, that's because Morrigan kept dying on me, or Wynne would do anything but heal in DA:O, and in DA2 I just used Merrill, who had no healing spells.

You could totally play without a Rogue as well. I don't ever recall get any really worthwhile loot from chests. Just some junk and the occasionally potion. Plus a small amount of XP.
That being said, I always kept Rogues in my party. Not because I needed them for chests but because Leliana was an awesome character, and in DA2 Isabela and Varric were always in my party no matter what.

Have a link for the video? Does it show more than 1 minute of actual, continuous gameplay?

If you want to just watch the gameplay, they get done with character creation and start exploring the world at around the 36min mark.
I'm trying to look at what I said and understand how that translates into "dismissive jerk". Explain, please?
Your not doing what he wants which apparently means your a jerk. Best not to respond to rude people. It gets you nowhere and is just frustrating.

No, there weren't too many things of importance/value in chests, but all those little HP nuggets do add up.

Loot in locked chests were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more valuable and worthwhile in DA:O. It actually made taking a Rogue somewhat necessary at times, unless you wanna do backtracking.
Loot in locked chests in DA:2 were ass. Mostly junk, like yay a moth-eaten scarf...the traps weren't deadly at all either, so Rogues were completely uncecssary in terms of unlocking chests and deactivating traps in DA:2. Except that one side mission where you couldn't progress in Darktown unless you opened a locked door lol.

I think its taking its cue from Dark Souls but yeah I doubt the majority of DA fans really want that sort of game. I will say though that as has been stated here by the devs the game will be balanced around less healing so comparisons with the previous games are not really possible.

I don't know what your talking about. The loot in DA:O was mostly junk and back in the day when the game first came out, there were debates on whether or not a rogue was actually needed since most of the chests contained nothing of worth. It was quite annoying to have to spend 4 talents of lock-picking when there wasn't much to be gained from the chests you found. I'm very happy that they removed that requirement in the following games.
