A sword smashed into the ground hard enough will totally kick rocks and dirt and stuff up. And if warriors could summon rocks why the hell can't I use the ability to start avalanches onto mine enemies.

Only if there are rocks there in the first place. And I do belive there would be chips of rock spraying about. Not giant boulders eminating from the ground 10 feet away.

Still. Of topic, though. Dropping the subject .

Quite right. I go by what the game tells me and shows me. In this case I just asked for an in-game explanation for why the Heal spell is not in use. And the fanboys got all enraged by it.

If you don't apply gameplay lore segregation you've got bigger problems (or should have bigger problems) with the DA setting.

Nothing that happens plot-wise makes any sense if the gameplay rules had applied.

Gameplay rules are ok. But what you can do during combat lore\story vs combat moves, I have some issues with. Hitpoints, damage and armour class etc are part of the rulesystem. Leaping 50 feet through the air and firing your bow isn't. That is an animation, and the animations are part of the story - since the story is told in a visual medium. Some of them I can easily accept, even if they are pushing the limits. But when they go full blown anime, it just looks silly. If its silly, the seriousness of the story takes a hit (in my case).

Anyway. This is, as I said, off topic.

Its magic because swords can't do that. Also, in a discussion, you lose when moving away from the topic and attacking the opposition.

Agreed lets keep this civil guys.

I'm not going to argue with you that the effects are not to everyones tastes but there is not right of wrong on that, only preference. Personally I found my S+S warrior in DA:O one of the most tedious classes to grind through the game with, partly because of the animations and shuffle shuffle combat, but thats me. DA2 was considerably more fun.

The effects are there to make Rogues and Warriors fun and compelling to watch, not to undermine mages value on the battlefield.

I still don't see how this detracts from the awesome power mages can bring to the field though but I appreciate ymmv.

I rather like this off topic discussion though. Seeing as the original topic has been talked to death.

I was just quietly amused, myself, since it's a silly question. Gameplay is secondary to lore. Teleportation and levitation went away in Skyrim because they didn't want the PC to be able to get around certain obstacles, not because magic changed.

Bio's never let the rules of magic get in the way of what they want to do. This was true even back when they were using somebody else's magic rules. Sarevok's murder plot in BG1 wouldn't have gone anywhere if there was a high-level cleric around. NWN's even worse.

Quite right. Its a prefference thing entirely. I was just stating why its not mine. I have no problems with you, or others, enjoying different things\animations.

I think it detracts from the mages when everyone else can do "superhero stuff" for no other reason than that it should look cool. I think it would have been cooler if the other classes had more finishing moves and the like, like in DA:O. I feel alot could be done in that area.

Actually it would work. Since in 2ED ressurection doesn't allways work, and if the body is too damaged it won't work at all.

Fair enough mate, and I do see your point on this. Don't share it but won't contest it :)

I know. Would have been cool if they did, though. Shooting anarrow through some mage's chest and pinning him to the wall etc.

Or a triple shot combo, one to the foot, pinning them, one to their main hand, crippling there ability to respond, followed by a headshot.

Sorry, complete digression for a moment.

I'm playing through DA2 as an archer for the first time and when I got a crit (I assume) my target literally fell to pieces, limbs torso and head all in a pile.

I'd never seen that before - is that archery specific of have I just been woefully blind all this time?

Everyone does that.
I'm assuming Patrick Weekes told them everyone should act like legos.

I'd say 75% blind :)

LOL OMG I never saw it on my archer, though I do have a wonderful shot of Assassination sending an arrow right into the Arishok's groin!

I can top that one. In DA:O I gave Wynne a greataxe. And as I am chopping down a mage during the Kolgrim battle in the Sacred Ashes quest, I spot Wynne in the background, doing a finishing move with the axe on Kolgrim himself.

And stuff like this is why I don't like the weapons being restricted in DA2 and DA:I :)

I want to give a mage staff to a warrior. Just see them whacking away with what is, for them, a big piece of wood. Better still if it occasionally spurts little bouts of random magic.
But seriously, I do love archer mages. Something I could have in Origins, and mod into 2, hopefully at least I can do the latter in Inquisition.

In Ultima 7 you could use anything as weapons. Even the corpse of one of your companions.

Those are both pretty weak things to base his plan on. Resurrection would also get around the latter, but let's assume nobody can cast it.

I mean if we can deal with archers slinging a rainstorm of arrows into an enemy, we can deal with a few pebbles from a sword ;)

Ohh you wouldn't belive the issues I have with Hail of Arrows. Especially when used indoors :)

Love me some mods but Frostbite very difficult to mod apparently.

I do agree a warrior with a bladed stave or spear would be pretty amazing. Thr animations are virtually there. Double ended sword would be my favourite though
