I actually have a question. Do transgender people care to be identified as transgender instead of just the gender of their choosing? Even if there was narrative consequence, would that be desired?

The trans community is incredibly diverse and has a variety of viewpoints. There is no universal "preferred" there!

So for some, yes it would be desired. Others would prefer not to take that option.

Indeed, it's a very your mileage may vary sort of thing. Out of my closest circle of friends, one is a transgendered man. He identifies completely as male and appreciates it when friends use masculine pronouns. However, at the same time, for medical reasons he had to take estrogen for years and looks very feminine. As such, he opts to use the women's restroom in public and doesn't correct strangers when they address him as "ma'am" or "she," as he doesn't feel the need to start a fuss over what he perceives as an understandable mistake.

At the same time, I know other transgender and gender fluid folk who either have a strong identity preference that they make known to anyone conversing with them, will use public restrooms of their identified gender, and others still who don't have any identity preference at all. My personal policy is to go with whatever the individual prefers as far as addressing them goes.

On the note of the CC, I'm really, really happy more androgynous and gender fluid options are available, for whoever may want to use them, for whatever reason. (Edit: Which also means I might finally be able to make more masculine/strong featured female PCs like I prefer. :P )

In which case they are like any other player.

Female Dwarves in Thedas don't grow facial hair (or at least not any more than female humans). Thedas isn't Oerth or Abeir-Toril.

It's complicated, trans* is such a diverse term it really is different, gender binary transpeople would likely attempt to avoid such content as much as possible while gender non-conforming transpeople would be more willing to consume such content and possibly even excited for it. As for transvestites they're separate enough that I'm somewhat hesitant to lump them in with the rest of us, but, I feel like they'd probably be the most excited for such content.

This is amazing.  When a bunch of us were asking for makeup options to be available to everyone, I thought that was a big push away from a strict binary.  I didn't think they'd let us customize the Inquisitor's physical features so thoroughly that we could make them as androgynous as we like.

When I asked this at PAX 2 years back, I believe the exact response was "We aren't Tolkien, these aren't Tolkien dwarves."

I'm not trans and cannot speak for the trans community, but I am glad that we will have more options to play as gender non-conforming characters. It's tiresome to always adhere so closely to a gender binary. Gender is socially constructed after all. It can be deconstructed as well. :)

That said, I can't wait to play some feminine-looking men. They are usually the men I'm most attracted to in real life as well (straight female here but consider myself somewhat gender-fluid or androgynous).
