I know, I didn't just mean what recently was shown though. It's more of a grouping of everything all together.
So basically I have been hiding in another thread where it was safe during every "freak out" lol but it occasionally leaked into there too.

Ah ok, some of the reaction to the romance options was a bit awful but that was worse because of all the entitlement that was going on. I also really didn't like the way some people spoke about how some of the characters looked I think it's because these things kind of bleed into real world issues. Hair options and combat restrictions don't so I am not that bothered as long as it blows over.

I think when the game comes out, if it is as good as I think it will be (and it really looks like it is) this will mostly just be forgotten about because everyone will be too busy enjoying the hell out of the game.

The devs have to walk a fine line between designing the game the way they think it should be and appealing to what their customers want. The problem is that sometimes the two things are incompatible (mostly because players have unrealistic expectations about what is technically possible), and invariably the devs have to make unpopular decisions for reasons we are often unaware of (technical limitations, time and budgetary constraints, etc.).

Unfortunately, one of the downsides of the kind of open development process that Bioware employs is that players develop strong preconceptions of what the game should-be/will-be like long before it is in their hands and consequently feel slighted when the devs choose to go in a different direction. Blizzard grapples with the same issue in their development of World of Warcraft; they are very open about what is being done in development, and players fly into a rage every time a decision they don't like is made.

Obviously more open development has advantages in building and maintaining consumer interest while the product is in development (maintaining brand awareness in the market), but it comes with a significant risk of backlash if development decisions are made that the shouters in the internet dislike (the empty can rattles most). In an ideal world, players would be mature enough to accept that we can't have every aspect of the game tailored to our preferences and we would accept that the devs do the best they can to accommodate our preferences within the constraints they have to work in. Frankly, I think it's a wonder the devs tell us anything. If I was in their position, I would issue two statements: 1. "We have started production on Dragon Age: xxxxxxx.", 2. "Dragon Age: xxxxxxx is complete. It will be released on XX/XX/201X."

Op... you do understand they are trying to sell you a game correct? I am not going to thank them for doing that.

This thread features some backwards logic.

Everything that the devs show is part of the advertising process. When they fail to meet the expectations that are either common, or are created by the marketing process, then complaining is what they get.

And of course everyone has different expectations. I want to play as a human male and the cc gives me huge freedom. I can live with some bad beards, not a big deal.

Those who want to play Qunari female for example, have limited options. Only short haired/bald, and no horns on a bald head look like bruises. Plenty of reasons to complain

Trust plays a big part as well. If someone is perfectly fine with the previous games, then he has no reason to not trust the company to deliver. But for others that's not the case. Bioware promises great story, flexibility on the dialogue and whatever else. If what they show doesn't measure up to the promises, then again, complaining is what they will get because people that don't trust them take everything at face value.

In any case, that's a main function of the forum. To discuss problems. We don't need to praise everything they show. If they did a good job then they will be rewarded with our money. If they did a poor job then even if we buy their product, the next time there will be more complaining and perhaps less buyers.

A request for showing a little gratitude for all their hard work and effort in crafting this product isn't exactly suggesting we kiss the devs' feet and shower them with supplication.

Sure they want to sell us the game. It doesn't mean we have any right to be asses about buying it either.

Considering I've paid 85 bucks for this game I damn well will complain about anything I please. If you want me to stop by all means buy me the game and I will.

As long as I'm not insulting anyone I hardly see the problem.

That's what I meant. Complaining is fine, being downright insulting isn't. Complaining, constructive criticism, etc. is very different from what I'm talking about.
Speaking of which, I haven't seen you say anything "cruel" or whatnot about the actual devs. I tried to word it as best ad possible. :)
Tone and such may have come across differently but I can only do so much via typing. ^_^

No, I get the complaining as a form of criticism. What I was trying to get across was the few individuals who basically bash the devs because of something. (Not necessarily the Qunari hair topic either.)
I just didn't like how people verbally attack them.
>.< I'm trying really hard to make sense, my wording isn't always top notch.
That being said if you have any suggestions to add to what I originally posted to try and have it make more sense, it'd be appreciated. :)
(Goes for others too if this topic keeps moving.)

I really like this thread. I'm usually the kind of person that doesn't post much, because I'm rather shy. But I have to say that so far I am thrilled with Inquisition. I love what they are doing and I can't wait for November to play the game!!!

I do agree with you OP. And I've seen my share of rude people and over the top complaints. I understand that we are buying the game and spending our money, but some people do go too far.

Thanks for a good thread! It's nice to see something positive for a change! :D

I see, admittedly I was a bit more broad than I should. The main point I disagree is that "they don't have to show". I consider both showing and not showing as strategies. Not showing something means that they are confident it will work. Showing something means that they want to see the public opinion.

The people you describe, that are obnoxious, I just think should be ignored or banned. They are not really worth the time and effort.

As for suggestions, to be honest, since your target is these particular people, then the best thread you can do is one that shows a gif with someone flipping the finger :P

It was initially a venting thing. :) I had no idea where to put it though.
If you know a location it should be in though (and how to move it since I have no clue lol) I'll gladly do so. ^_^

I agree and support this . Too many doo doo head *whining* and behaving like they are on YT . Although , I admit not as much as it should be .

Take the topic when romance were finaly revealed for good . I was expecting a flame war of huge proportions , yet it wasn't . The aftermath was those who were unhappy started opening their 'Unfair choice' topic one after another . And they still do it....

I think everyone is entitled to voice what they want and what they don't like . But it is the way that is done that may cancel one right .

I will show them gratitude with my hard earned money, i wasn't sure i would buy it on release... but what i am hearing about the game has convinced me to do so. They have successfully sold me the game and in return i will pay them for it. That is an equal exchange.

This is their world that they're allowing us to see it. They don't have to give us anything.

Ah, so they sell the game because they are so generous to let us dirty peasents into their world. Cool, i always thought it was because they wanted us to give them money...

In all seriousness, i know that the people here often are real hardcore bioware fans, but this is just getting rediculous.

Bioware doesn't consist of angels descended from heaven to bring joy to the people of the earth. They are people that are working in an company.

They are making games partly because they like to do it, i presume at least, and partly because they want to have money for food and stuff.

They are making a product, which we buy. They are not allowing us into anything. They are selling a product. And if we dislike a product that we bought then we have a right to tell them that. If they have previously sold us products which we didn't like then we have a right to be skeptic towards future products that they want to sell. They actually do have to give us something, because if they don't, they won't get money and starve.

I am not advocating attacking or harrassing devs in any way. That sort of thing is wrong and for a good reason. But there is no reason why we shouldn't complain about a perceived lack of quality in a produc that we bought.
