Nobody knows best idea is it either removes magic from the mage and turns him into a monster or it does nothing aside from instant kill them

Its unknown and possibly unrefined so to to magi its lethal in that state. Plus i have a rule; unknown elements are either radioactive and lethal or are inherantly dangerous til further study

Red lyrium is said to be distinctly 'anti-magic', so I imagine it'll be like a huge Mana Clash.

Either way though, lyrium is distinctly poisonous to mages. It's why they have to get Tranquil to do their enchanting for em.

isn't that just fan speculation? as far as i know i don't think bioware has stated what the properties of red lyrium are.

Correct, red lyrium is not 'anti-magic' in nature, but can be used as such.
