You must love Arnold Schwarzenegger movies then...

Haha... my whole childhood was me and my parents watching those with popcorn ^^.

I'm kinda being half honest here, I do enjoy more realistic and mature storytelling as long as it doesn't come as a synonym of dark and depressing just for the sake of "realism". I enjoyed the ending of the Dark Tower series a great deal, Wasn't the happy ending I usually prefer but it was an ending that gave me both positive and negative feelings, and that was awesome.

But I still love extra cheesy endings, specially in weeks when I spend most of my time coding something for College/Work (have enough frustration in those)

No kidding... I've been out of Likes most of the day, and I like all of these Lavellans!  :(

I actually have a few other concepts in mind, mostly your standard hero or freedom fighter... I want to go through the game with a villain/anti-hero first though just to mix things up.  Plus, those heroic characters aren't really that exciting atm since I stopped thinking about them... Eventually I'll do a char that romances Sera, and that one will probably be rather heroic so she stays on Sera's good side...

I'm hoping the Red Hart will be available for download on the marketplace eventually.Because I don't have the extra money to buy any of the fancy versions of the game xD

So it's the regular edition for me.

Hey fellow elf lovers this a thread to show appreciation for a beautiful group of people. In a way to get to know each other and have a bit of fun post your background ideas for your dalish inquisitor or warden. Remember have fun :)

My canon Warden was an elf from the Circle of Ferelden. He was ethnically Antivan but culturally Fereldan. Surana was born in the Denerim Alienage, his mother was one of the Night Elves during the Orlesian occupation (which is strictly headcanon background material), and he was forcibly taken away from his family when it was discovered he was a mage. Surana's best friend growing up was Jowan, and he was an apt pupil under Irving's tutelage. He leaned toward the Libertarian position, he condemned the Chantry for invading the homeland of his people for religious reasons, and he was atheist.

Pragmatic, but not without compassion. He was willing to make the difficult choice when it came to dealing with the darkspawn, but he wasn't without compassion, as evidenced when he gave a young boy a silver to eat in Lothering, or his refusal to accept money for dispatching bandits who were preying on the people of Lothering. He recruited out of necessity, he believed in the cause of the Wardens, and he romanced Morrigan.

When all was said and done, he asked for the Circle of Ferelden to be given it's independence, he stayed behind to rebuild the Wardens, and ultimately he left everything behind to unite with Morrigan and his infant son, heading into the Eluvian of the Dragonbone Wastes with his faithful Mabari Hound Dumat and the woman he loved. The elven tome and Morrigan's "gift" was left behind for Ariane.

Revas Lavellan is an elven mage of the People. He's male, with an olive skin tone that makes him look Antivan, and is voiced by Harry Hadden-Paton. Likely to have short brown hair, brown eyes, and the vallaslin of the All-Father and God of Vengeance. He doesn't hate the shemlen out of hand, but he's cautious around them because of their historical tendency to betray their promises. Revas believes in the faith of the Creators, and has nothing but disdain for the invasion and occupation of the ancestral homeland of the People. The Chantry of Andraste and the Order of Templars are villainous groups in his eyes.

Depending on the circumstances of the story and what options will be provided (so the following is subject to drastic change)...

This Dalish mage will reluctantly work with the Andrastians to deal with the Breach, but he won't surrender who he is or concede his beliefs. His powers were a gift of the Creators, not this shemlen god. He'll use the Inquisition to benefit the Elvhen.

Knowing that the Circles played a role in the defeat of the Dales (as Ariane implied in "Witch Hunt") and recognizing the templars as a centuries old enemy of the clans, he'll side with the mages fighting for their autonomy, to nullify the threat of the Templar Order and have the magical prowess of the mages as a militant arm of his organization. The royal boon of Surana will be fulfilled by Revas Lavellan.

With political support from the Crown of Ferelden and the backing of the mages, he'll move to emancipate the elves of the Dales from Orlesian occupation. He'll do whatever it takes to guarantee that the elves have autonomy, even if it means the destruction of the Orlesian Empire.

Morrigan is someone who he will work with, as a Witch of the Wilds who bequeathed an important gift to Ariane's clan, but he'll also be cautious because of the initial theft of the elven tome, and as Asha'bellanar's daughter does not operate by the same rules that govern the Elvhen.

There is no one romantically available for Revas, so he'll take this journey through the destination unknown alone.

Not to be nitpicky but can an elf really be ethnically antivan if it's a human ethnicity? If they had any blood relation to antivans they've be human, so surely an elf (or a dwarf) with darker skin would still be from somewhere else than a human would.

Zevran is Antivan and has darker skin, so I think it's a pretty good bet!

...I always do dark skinned dwarf, even though we've never really seen one yet. :/ I'm going to attribute that to the limitations of the DA:O engine and the non-prescence of dwarves in DA2...for now. I hope we see actual dark skinned dwarves in game besides just my PC though.

(Maybe Hipster!Cadash is actually a Kal-Sharok spy, and the her hipsterness is all a ruse! Gasp!)

But he's still the offspring of a Dalish elf (and Dalish elves can wander all over the continent) and a woodcutter, both of which would have their own separate linage than ethnic antivans. They still wouldn't be the same ethnicity as the humans of Antiva.

Well, in the days of Elvhenan the empire was said to be spread all across Thedas.  It could be possible that the elves did not all look the same due to their environs - places with high concentration of sun, or those who spend a great deal of time exposed to sunlight, darkens the skin and genetics change to reflect this - and thus, "ethnically Antivan" could translate to "ethnically of the Elvhenan settlement in what is present-day Antiva."

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, we don't really have enough information about that kind of stuff to say for certain and Bioware seems really inconsistent, and frankly, not like they've given much thought about skin tone beyond humans so....I say, use whatever works for you.

Well we know that not all elves and dwarves look alike and that some have dark skin. But in both cases the origins of  different tribes is lost to history, while human tribes are not. I was just saying they wouldn't be "antivan" per say. The other thing about human Antivans is that they also have rather different skin tones. Most Antivan NPCS pretty pale skinned I think. Nuncio is the darkest one I remember.

Oh yeah, I know what youre saying. It's just that Bioware hasn't given us any frame of reference for how elves would talk about different nationalities, ethnicities, skin tones.... so as far as I'm concerned, it's all fair game to headcanon that dark skinned elves from Antiva call themselves ethnically Antivan when Zevran calls himself Antivan and has dark skin. I mean, the elves probably don't have an elvish word for that area, so if there is a settlement of dark skinned elves there...they might just call themselves that.

Actually, I'm starting to seriously consider playing as a mage and then going with Knight Enchanter... I've been having a hard time deciding for months, but I thought I'd finally settled on warrior.  Now I'm not so sure...

I think an elf can be Antivan just as much as they can be Ferelden, Orlesian, Rivainni, etx. since Antiva is a country, a nation with political borders, and those born within those borders, or those with family who lived within those borders a number of generations back can still consider themselves part of that nation. Especially if you're a city elf, or have relatives who are city elves.

In nationality, of course. But Vivienne isn't ethnically Orlesian.
