Byzantinian?

fun fact tevinter is actually based off the Byzantinian roman empire not the classical variant. And the qunari can be considered to be the ottomans due to the similar relationship(idk if it will end the same)
This is monkeys historical minutia(feel free to add)

Well I know about the byzantine era, If interested I could tell you more about them, while I am no scholar of this era I have done some research of my own. So if interested let me know.

However the manner of dress that we have seen from the Tevinter people so far is decidely not byzantine. The byzantine style of dress was very similar to the dress of the classical roman empire. As an example below is some of the clothing styles of the romans of this era. I know that my question is a bit odd, but it was something that made me curious so I thought I would ask.

Because all you need is magic. And to use magic more effectively it's best to wear something comfortable.

Cool pictures. It's definitely not directly Byzantine inspired. Tevinter style is layered, complex, decorated, I believe that's where most of it's similarities lie with Byzantine era. They both have those qualities when it comes to fashion, style.

edit: Tevinter's style reminds me a lot of Alexander McQueen

*snip*

I don't really like robes and mage hats they have in DA. Those are not something I would call comfortable.

I don't see your point; you based comfort as the viable factor.

Obviously those frilly hats and robes would be more comfortable then plate, chain or leather and those hats would be more comfortable then half or full helms.

Or you could wear a comfortable suit and not wear a hat.

Or something.

That looks like it would open up from a slight breeze; not to mention what a well forged sword would do to it...

Yeah Mages should wear **** like that.

Ok.. if you don't like the cut look at the male version:

Spoiler

And a sword does nothing to the mage, because it hits a barrier, and then the sword fighter gets a fireball or a telekinetic blast to the face. Unless a mage is a scrub, in which case I don't care.

then why not walk around nude?

anyways, isn't tevinter more sunnier/tropical, I am pretty sure Par Vollen/Serhon are tropical. So would that make dresses like the Indian Sari possible, albit in tevinter colors? :P

Severan was a circle mage - automatic scrub.

Titus is better, but obviously had a lot going on there so was exhausted.

His barrier shattered and he squealed and cried like a school girl.

He flinched before his death; he went to the grave with no dignity, no pride.

He died a coward; a mage hiding behind a tattered worthless shield.

Because walking around nude for most people is not as comfortable as in clothes.

Maybe, didn't think about it.

I want to join but cant stand minority races. Is there a only human or pro-human mage chapter in Tevinter? If so, where do I sign up.

It seems Magisters are total ****s when they are defeated?

Honestly if that's the best of all the Imperium I'm not impressed.

It is because who ever wrote the comic had a will to make him look like a covard. I have not read it though so can´t really say. However, that sounds like a archtype of bad movie villain. Bold when upper hand, whiny when losing. That is rather lame actually. I would appreciate a villain like Loghain who doesn´t squeal in the end.

That reminded me of this.

Templar and Mage bonding over collective addiction :P

Honest question have we actually had confirmation that Mages get addicted to lyrium? it is one of the things that annoy me is the reference to templar junkies yet nothing mentioned about mages.

also Templars my be disiplined but their still junkies, just like a high powered executive with a coke problem they can be high functioning but they still need their fix. the whoe point of addiction is it controls you not the other way around.

Alright i've settled on an initial four volleys of rockets; the regular high explosive gatlock rockets will be launched first over the the walls from the war galleys.

The second wave of Qumek laced rockets will follow suit after the initial volley, the third wave made up of experimental lyrium charged rockets will be fired to explode above the city, also fired from shore.

The final volley of gatlock high explosives will be fired upon the main force's landing ashore and securing of a beachhead to breach the walls.

poor planning you forgot the 3 colossus

Byzantine period Rome but with a Thedas twist.

here is an odd question, but what sort of style of dress would you say that Tevinter is based off?

the idea of Tevinter is based on late Rome particularly the Byzantine era.

But from what we've seen the actual dress does not:

Venatori dress certainly draws on the classic "empire" period around first and second century. when empire was at its peak, we can tell this notably by the gladiator style helmets. and ceremonial style cloaks.

and of course dorians attire draws on the classic roman dress themes such as tunics and cloaks with a mix of resonance influence for flair.

Those gladiator type of helmets are massively impractical. Large and heavy with little vision available. Just for show in arena, not for real combat. Actual legionnaire helmet would be much more better.

most tevinters have a bias so there are some people like that. Personally i cant say i approve of your views but if you are a mage and prove yourself worthy your are welcome. As First Enchanter i welcome you to see the light* extends hand in acceptance* just keep the pro human beliefs down some elven magister will take offense and id hate to have to clean up.

Welcome to the light

@Z

For someone who hates all things Tevinter, you spend alot of time in and around Tevinters.

Honestly I am sick of boot licking, chantry lobotomized southern barbarians lurking in here, cant we just have them executed be done with it...I put it to a vote.

Ooc ( why are people in here posting anti Tevinter fanfics and taking up pages with nothing at all related to supporting Tevinter, go make an anti Tevinter thread be you so inclined)

Believe it or not their very practical for serving their purpose, namely prolonging a fight. they offered far more protection then helmets of the day. The weight as well as the limited vision combined with the fact many needed two men to get in and out of would have been terrible in a war.

but in close combat it is far better then a legionnaire helmet.

EDIT: fun fact the helmet the venatori are wearing is based off the "Cassis Crista" helmet, which evolved out of the legionaire Cassis helmet.

it was worn by "Murmillo" gladiators who represented the roman legion in re-enactments.
