*Epilogue*

She sobs in silence of her dark room, clothes and items lay on the floor where she had thrown them.

Suddenly she hears something. There is a dark figure in the door.

"I love you" he says. Nazlik stops crying and wipes her eyes. "I do love you. Only there is nothing more than this I can give you. My father was right, at least in one thing" he says bitterly, "If I would declare my love to you publicly and divorce my "wife" our house would fall like a wounded bird from the sky. Her family would declare open war on us among other conservative families. The biggest insult one can think of, rejecting their daughter for a qunari. My daughters, no matter how much I love them, are no match for them and I can´t beat them on my own. And you... they would take you as a personal goal just to hurt me... My life is my cage..."

She looks at him in silence and rubs her wet nose.

"That said, I do love you and if you can accept that then I am yours" after a moment of silence he adds, "If you do not then I have no choice but to release you, give you citizenship and send you away with a lot of money and your own house"

Nazlik looks at him and whispers "I love you and would never leave you"

"You don´t know how happy I am to hear that" he says with a weary smile, "from now on my door is always open to you. You can come and go as you please, everywhere. No one will give you any orders anymore". He turns around and leaves in silence.

She sits on her bed drying her tears smiling.

*same time somewhere in the dales*

Two dalish hunters move through the forest silently. They are closing in on their prey. Suddenly a white light bursts behind trees close by with a loud boom.
Hunters close in carefully and peer between the trees. In a small clearing there is a young elven girl sitting, naked. Hunters run to her "Who are you, what are you doing here?" they shout at her in anger. The girl looks at them stunned "I... I do not know, I have no idea who I am".

She pulls back her curly blond hair and looks at the hunters with crystal blue eyes.

But that isn't something that Tevinter has the power to maintain or support for any significant period of time, especially when it's on the turf of multiple groups of people who are all better at this than Tevinter (this being maritime navigation and warfare), and have been for a long time. It's too far removed from Tevinter's jurisdiction by the sea, it's not connected to any larger system of bases or patrol routs, while being easily reached by the very nations Tevinter would seek to make war with.

It's boondoggle. This place offers nothing to Tevinter in its current state.

You would think so would you?

Given your posts in the past i assume you know of the Tevinter Altus relation with the Antivan Merchant Nobility no? Off the books of course but it exists, it was documented first in Dragon Age 2 and then the three part series of comics. While admittedly that relationship suffered during the period due to members of both sides dying and what not but the point remains.

A cordial if mercenary relationship exists; hence why i say, why not use it.

Have the Antivans actually do the heavy lifting while Tevinter coin funds it, by the time its actually turned over to Imperium it would have been marked off as a merely a pirate or raider stronghold of a merchant lord, you know what i said a few posts ago.

Because the merchant princes aren't stupid. Pre-existing relationship or no, why would they aid Tevinter in massing a fleet on Estwatch? How is that even good for business? Do you really think the gold up front masks what a terrible investment this is for their interests?

Because of this thing called war industry :P

Profit my dear friend.

War profiteering.

Their interests are maintaining their personal fortunes, it doesn't matter if Nevarra or the Free Marches implode, They be will raking in the drakes merely from supporting either or both sides of the conflict, Merchants are cagey like that.

Few things generate money like war.

*Enters the chamber in hooded black robes with gold trim. His face obscured, his motions and stride determined. He sits hastily in his seat.*

We are experiencing a major influx of profligates and Orlesian spies as of late. They are in chaos and turmoil in the South, so they turn their eyes north to Tevinter where our strength and stability are a direct threat to their mundane heathen existences. They fear us rightfully so, and they fear Dumat. I caught a few spies and blasphemers lingering about the temple. Whilst the gods preached patience, I could not abide the insults they hurl at my lord. Several were sacrificed and bled dry as an offering and a warning. Several more remain in the bowels of the temple complex, my acolyte are introducing them to the concept of total silence. They still live for now, but have had their tongues removed and vocal cords magically severed so the may never speak ill of Dumat or Tevinter again.

Other than that it has been a lovely day. *laughs sarcastically*

Do share brothers, what is on the agenda?

Excellent news my good HP, it is time to make the mundanes understand once again what it means to defy the Imperium *claps hands together smiling*

I also had some.. unpleasant experiences with templars on my trip. I think I will participate on the expenses with a large sum of gold to create several fake templar teams to harass mundanes and the chantry in the south.

Any merchant playing the long game is going to realize they'd be giving Tevinter the ability to actively disrupt their business (and worse) in the near future. If Antiva is not the first to be attacked, they will be the second. Tevinter's not fooling anyone.

The spies have no information of import. Orlais is torn apart by civil war and unable to pose any direct threat. Their so called empire is barely holding together as it is.

I support Ukki in his proposal, we should contract some southern mercenary groups, outfit them as templars and seekers and loise them among the populace down south to spread further dysfunction. The chaos it will cause will please Zazikel. Lord Zazikel will see the chaos caused be a direct boon to the empire.

i would suggest dialogue but sadly the time for war is at hand and i prefer isolation over white chantry dogma

Indeed the time for dialogue is over. The south saw to that eventuality themselves.

I understand our FE is a man of peace at heart. However we must think what is best for the Imperium. Throwing southern nations of balance is just that, we must keep them at bay until the Imperium can move against them with force. Besides, my blood was drawn and I do not look kindly on that.

The fact that they would dare to outright attack any magister of Tevinter is a grievous offense and will punished most severely. Did your lady friend accompany you on your journey south?

I know my good man, that is why I chose you. With you in my house our family will be even stronger. *taps monkey on shoulder*

I did. Had I not brought her with me things might be different. Those templars dogs cannot match my power, but there was some concern. I have now promoted her as my personal bodyguard/escort. *points to the qunari woman standing in the shadows*

I did also distribute justice on those templars at location so they will not be telling anyone about our encounter. And I can tell you it was not pleasant. *chuckles*

Most important? That's a tifle subjective.

Whims to say they wouldn't want their competition in Rivain destroyed? You seem to leave out these aren't a united, uniform interest.

But a literal horde of pirates, merchants, raiders and slavers. So given they do war among themselves, how would this be different?

Beyond that another force is doing the killing.

I know what you mean. You should be careful though. Last time I had a party in my manor there was this red headed orlesian bard whom I had called because she had a reputation of being both stunning and capable. *takes a quick glance at the qunari woman*

Evening went splendid but at the end of it I found her poking through my study. Good thing I do not have anything important stored there.

I Had her thrown out. Should have thrown her in dungeon but I was feeling generous. She did give us a great performance.
