I'd be surprised honestly if Tevinter had "blood" sport in it, seems a waste of potential soldiers to toss at Qunari.

Maybe their Circle mages are so powerful that they don't need that many conventional soldiers?

They maintained an army at the height of their power that was the largest organized army in existence.
They are more then a thousand years from that apex.

Ritualized duels to the death between mages seems likely, as well as unofficial fights in the lower castes.

But if they have that huge arena that Tevinter Soldier mentioned, they have to hold some kind of big events in it... if not slaves, who fights there? Nugs?

Maybe they summon demons and have them fight each other.

I recall no mention of an Arena in any codex or WOT.

I'd pay to watch that...

Me too. That would be a cool mini game in the game if it's set in Tevinter

I didn't ask him for proof, but this is what I was referring to...
Minrathous has an arena styled in the Dwarven "proving grounds"
consider to be the largest arena anywhere in thedas.
I can only assume it's not for playing cricket.
Seems like an odd thing to pull from one's backside, no?

Given the Byzantine allegories applied to Tevinter i wouldn't be surprised if it was.

I'd rather fight legions of demons in the Colosseum while Tevinters of all races and castes cheer my name. Are you not entertained tbh?

I found the webpage that talks about the arena in Tevinter. In the dragon age wiki, if you look up ancient age and scroll down to the pre-age section you can read about it in the year 6400 FA:
The dwarven contests known as Provings become popular among the noble class of the Tevinter. A Grand Proving Arena is built in Minrathous.

+1 Good enough for me... (although seeing it first hand would be even better...)

Given the construction date and the current state of Tevinter i'd be surprised if it was even used.

Why not? You have to do something to pass the time.

Shouldn't you be worrying about prissy Orlesian nobility or what rouge is in fashion and all that? If you ever feel like joining the 'real' human empire don't forget to grab an application on the way out. You might miss a ball or a play or something. ![]()

According to the World of Thedas book, the arena is built like a triangular prism and the outside has gardens. Sounds to me like they still use it and keep it nice.

The Altus are the most elevated class precisely because they descend from the first Dreamers that spoke with Dumat which means their blood is what earns them social standing.
In general yes. But Lateans can still be Archons.
