As you have come from Kirkwall, I would like you to inform me of the Qunari attack on kirkwall and what happened during it. Perhaps their attack might shed some insight in defeating them.
Perhaps now the Southern Nations know of the threat that the Qunari present the world.

"Why don´t you have any books that don´t have things about magic in them?" she says with a snort, "few romantic books would do wonders for these boring dry shelves"
"because it is hard to cast spells with romance alone, no matter how stunning it is" he replies, "speaking of romance. I have a question for you love".
She stops poking through the books and comes to him. "This is still a long shot but I went through the reports I have from Seheron and with the information you gave from your family there I think it might be possible to find them. I believe the area they are has been kind of no mans land for a long time. It seems neither the Imperium nor the qunari cannot hold that specific area for long. Maybe the tal-vashoth are still holding on there. North-west side of the island from Alam, by the mountains. Very hard terrain to move, or control. What would you say if we went there looking for them?"
*She looks at him in wonderment, "would you do that my love, just for me?", "within a heartbeat love" he says with a smile, "what kind of Magister I would be if I would not do everything in my power for my love? I have a war galley in the harbour ready. We can leave tomorrow if we so wish."
She walks to him slowly and takes his face between her hands. With a soft kiss she say, "Please, if there is any possibility to find them I would be forever grateful".
"You don´t have to be grateful, just love me" he says softly and kisses her back.
"Lets just go to see my daughter and monkey before we set the date for departure. I would not want to worry my daughter so soon after our trip to Nevarra." he says.

*Next day midday he and Nazlik boarded the "The pride of the Imperium" war galley, funded and manned solely by the Vaellanius family. Sun was shining, sea gulls screaming and the harbour was buzzing with activity. Larger and smaller merchant and fisherman vessels were in their endless move in and out of the Minrathous harbour bringing in goods for sale and leaving out to sell Imperiums wonders to the world.
*He stood on the ships elevated rear deck in the warm breeze and sun in his face. He felt so much alive, after recognizing what Nazlik meant to him world had started to receive its color back, food had taste and he felt like a young man again. The odd thing was, he was on a course to do a totally selfless act. Something he had not done in so many years. And he felt thrilled in doing so. Life was good. She stood next to him still unable to understand what they were about to do. For 10 years she had lost all hope ever seeing her family again. And now she was on a voyage home with the man she loved. There was now hope in the air, she smiled at him.
He had given a official explanation to move his own troops to Seheron to bolster the Magister-Generals troops in the war against qunari, to avoid anyone getting suspicious. There was a full company of his personal guard solders stocked in the decks below.
*He nodded to the captain who started barking orders. Ropes were released and slaves below the deck started pulling oars with the sound of the drums giving pace. The huge war galley slowly but surely started to first back down and then turn around in the port end of the busy harbour gulf. A lot of courses and angry waves could be seen from the merchant and fisherman ships trying to avoid waves the warship caused while turning. Imperium flag popped in the wind as the war galley started to maneuver out of the harbour with oars moving rhythmically. Seagulls complained with screams but started to follow the big ship in hopes of finding food.
*"The pride of the Imperium" cleared the harbour area and set sail to Nocen sea. He watched with satisfaction his family crest being embroidered in the huge sails .*

Too your question herkles, during the Qunari's assault on Kirkwall they had been their for years in their walled off section of the city after their ship crashed on our shores. So when they decided to attack they had time to learn the in and outs of our city as well as our guards where unprepared for their attack. During the it they quickly went from our dock to the Viscount's Keep where our Viscount was killed by their Arishock who was in the end killed by Hawk. By the account I heard of the events and what I saw the Qunari follow a code or to some a religion of sorts. To which to those who understand it you could talk them down or at the very least lower the blood spilled to a one on one duel. If you can stand not being scared of their size and power.
Well it appears DAI is keeping the tradition of a Magister boss battle alive

The Battle certainly is scripted to where i would be excited about it yes.
Seems the Mage isn't a push over; Which is also good i wouldn't expect a War Leader to be.
About time though we actually got a senior senator.
Darnius and Caladrius both were less then impressive.
I'm hoping for better this time with o.o well i'll just say it isn't Alexious surprise surprise.

related to military stuff, here is the wikipedia article on byzantine military manuals which might be interesting to those who like history. atm I can't find a free english translation of them. However there is the Alexiad by Anna Commena, daughter of Emperor Alexius the 1st and details quite a lot about her father's reign and conquests. I find it kind of fascinating.
