*A large "twang!" sound sent vibrations through the ships. A huge metal arrow shot from the ballista veered through the air and landed on the waterline of the qunari dreadnought. Following the impact a explosion shakes the ship. The dreadnought, fastest of the three, had made it almost side by side with the war galley from the left side. Now the explosion rip a hole right into dreadnoughts waterline through the metal plating and the ship started to tilt and loose speed. It was greeted with a loud cheering form the Tevinter war galley*
"Excellent work!" shouted the captain. "Indeed" he says, "the work put in progress to come up with this ballista design with the dwarves did not go waste. The aiming is exeptionally good. They did not expect this from our distance"
In recent hours the race had brought the qunari dreadnoughts closer to the war galley. The qunari did not want to engage in close combat too soon so they tried to postion themselves on the both sides and back of the war galley for a shoot out first, to immobilize the galley.
The second qunari dreadnought closing in from the right side shot next, a loud boom sent a flaming ball towards the war galleys side. The angle was too steep and it bounced off the ship."The pride of the Imperium" did not only have new weaponry but it had thicker armor layers also to prevent qunari thunder to pierce its sides.
This was also greeted with a loud cheering.
The third dreadnought fired a smaller projectile from its front cannon. Right towards the rear deck. However, he was waiting for it and had cast a huge wall of shield at the back of the ship. The war galleys own mage, who wanted to call himself a Marine-mage, gave additional support to keep the shield on. Smaller flaming ball hit their shield and bounced back to the sea.
Another cheer filled the air.
Since the first dreadnought had fallen from the speed and was left far behind the remaining two closed in fast. From the war galleys deck they were greeted with a volleys of arrows and flaming balls by the archers and catapults/scorpions. The dreadnought slided closer to cut the oars of the war galley so the captain gave orders to pull all oars in. Just before the dreadnought came side by side with the war galley a huge metal arrow flew once more and hit the qunari ship right middle on the center deck with a explosion. The explosion sent many qunari soldiers, dead and alive, flying wrecking a lot of havoc. The ships main mast broke and fell down. Now both ships greeted each others with hails of arrows before touching on the sides.
He cast a huge firestorm on the main deck of the siding dreadnought, simultaneously the ships mage cast a lightning storm on the ships rear deck sealing the fate of the ship. Despite the destruction these spells caused qunari started to roll over the ships side into the war galley. They were met with a forest of steel. Hes personal guard soldiers charged forward in disciplined formations pushing the qunari remnants towards the ships side.
At the same time the third dreadnought closed in from the left side sliding in the side of the war galley with grabble hooks flying in the air. The marines on its side sent as many arrow volleys as they were able before taking their swords. Qunari stormed over the side and engaged the defenders. The galleys own mage joined the battle raging on the deck. He concentrated to the dreadnought, while making a small cut in his arm he casted a complex spell. Almost immediately the air above the deck started to ripple and a rage demon came through. He increased the spell power and two more rage demons came through the opening.
He pointed them to the qunari dreadnought and demons rushed to it with orders to kill every single qunari on that ship. After the demons had boarded the ship he cast a firestorm spell on it too to enforce the effect. "That should take care of it" he muttered. After a moment both dreadnoughts drifted of the sides of the war galley in a flaming inferno.
The qunari who were on the war galley saw how the battle was going to end. They fought with a cold tenacity, determined to kill as many as tevinter as possible. A small group led by a sten saw him casting in the rear deck and charged at him with rage. Nazlik pulls her sabres and tried to step in front of him but he moved faster. With a wave of his arm most of the men were swept off the deck into the sea. Sten and two of his remaining men closed in fast. With a another wave of his had he sent a chilling burst of cold at them freezing them where they stood. He finished them with a volley of stone fists as they exploded in icy flesh chunks.
*Next day most of the traces from the battle had been cleaned. Some prisoners were taken, few qunari had being knocked out and not killed. Dead were buried in the sea and wounded patched up. That night the ships crew threw a victory party. Nazlik did not let him leave for a whole day from the cabin after it.
"The pride of the Imperium" sailed once more without a challenge.
