I don't doubt that people would practice the worship of the old gods, just not publically.

Your description sounds like the beginings of an interesting dungeon to explore as well :)

I'd love it if there were more dragon cults, Sadly I doubt we'd be able to ally with them.

You udnerstand that the reason they are hostile is because the dragon blood literally drives them mad?

I'm imagining massive, secret, underground Temples beneath Minrathous...

Right under a Chantry. With Secret passageways. Dark, twisting, and full of traps for trespassers unfamiliar with the way.

I would not be surprised in the least. I would imagine that the Old Gods still have plenty of temples underground, hidden from prying eyes.

also didn't kolgrim and his followers try and attack you before you got to him?

Anyways what I am curious about is how might the imperial chantry's chantries look and feel different compared to the southern/andrastian chantries? Do you think they might have more of a byzantine look to their chantries?

Most things in the southern chantries were adorned in white, So I assume the imperium chantries will be covered in black. Contrast and all that, it's cliché but it works.

I agree but I highly doubt that Tevinter mages would dare to pray to the Old Gods in the obscure places. Tunnels? Sure, but paved with gold, full of gems and mirrors catching the sunlight through the cracks in the earth/waterfalls. Great many artificial lights and dragon tails on the walls.

Considering pretty much anything can be done my magisters as long as it's behind closed doors makes me think that the old gods get worshipped more than we think.

Anything is possible. But culturally and historically speaking, Tevinters don't like the Old Gods. They burned down the temples and murdered the faithful during and after the First Blight. So what motivation and reasoning would a magister have to believe?

I wasn't thinking of thinking dank dreary tunnels when I said secret passageways. I was thinking of spiraling, opulent, byzantine glory.

Definitely opulence...decadence really. Something like in the Phantom of the Opera, but Byzantine and absolutely dripping with gemstones and arcane heraldry. But I don't know about all the artificial light...Tevinter seems to like things dark to me.

I can sign under this description(except for decadence). Superior humans deserve superior riches.

And who are these lesser people to the Magisters of the Imperium? Anyway, these are old news. Now with mages again in power, remaining sparkles of this old Chantry charade, can be extinguished.

The people of lesser status. Yes, it does support them but soon there will be no need for chantry to exist there. Old faith might be reestablished.

Even the Magisters of Tevinter, blame the old Gods for their downfall. EVERYONE in Tevinter (except the priests themselves probably) blamed the Old Gods and their faithful in the wake of the First Blight. The Magisters, as a group, have no interest in restoring the faith of the Old Gods, since it would be tantamount to admit that the Magisters themselves were to blame for the downfall of Tevinter.

As a rule of thumb Tevinters are Andrastian, with only a few belonging to Dragon Cults or worshipping the old Faith, and it would certainly be something a Magister would keep as a closely guarded secret if he did.

I have never heard about magisters blaming the Old Gods, never ever. If anything then architecture, acceptance of blood magick suggests strong ties with an old faith. I do not see it. Restoration of Them would rather mean breaking the chains of Chantry and ties with the rest of less developed world, where mongrels sing their misguided chants. With mages ruling again, there is no need for them to keep fragile peace. Venatori are doing their work for the reason. Maybe next Blight under direct command of Tevinter Imperium. There is plenty of ways to excuse blights to common folk.

All of Tevinter massacered the faithful during and after the First Blight, because they blamed the Old Gods for what had happened. Tevinter has in general had a strong dragon motiff in their architecture and culture, but that does not equal reverence of the Old Gods. It just means that they were too marvelous buildings to simply tear down. Our world is fileld with stories of how buildings dedicated to other faiths have been spared and repurposed, same is probably true in Tevinter.

And the are no "chains" from the Chantry in Tevinter. So there is nothing to "break". The Magisters are in full control of the Imperium, and while the Chantry there is influential (and part of the magisterium aswell), they do NOT hold any lordship over the mages.

And Magisters may be powerful, but they are not so powerful, nor are they so stupid, that they think that they can accomplish anything without the common man. The Magisters still need to have the favor of the commoners, otherwise another Magister will simply acquire it, and dethrone his rivals with his gained popularity amongst the masses.

I have never heard about mages massacring the Magisters. First Blight was most probably a unique event that could weaken the fade and cut mages-or certain mages from power. Judging by what happend to Corypheus, the mightiest could have gone lost. I thought that they were blaming magisters, not the Old Gods. They have not even scrapped dragon imagery. In fact Dorian wears an image of dragon on his armour. If the dragons were so much horrible to them as you say, why haven't they banned the use of this symbole. We know about Old Gods temples becoming mages towers. Looks like a laugh at chantry to me, considering dragon graphics.

Oh, but they are very much chained to the south, not by the Divines but by the faith. While under different leaders, with different doctrines, they share almost the same faith. I don't think that South would like to hear about Old Gods being revered again. Looks like a good pretext for war.

It is quite easy to sway the masses. One year and most of Tevinter would praise the Old Gods, a little bit of miracles and goods and common folk are going to dance with dragon like hats. At this point they must be immensely powerful if they have regained political power. It is a new age.

By the way, is it not 'support thread'. you don't seem to be interested in the 'support' part.

Knock-knock citizens of Tevinter Imperium, keep integrity of your thread and protect it from shaming hijacks. If it is not 'support' then make it go.
