Leaving it up to the player sounds fine to me.

Your goal can range anywhere from laying waste to the Imperium, getting the hell out of it, or becoming the next Archon.

I know I won't have a lot of company in this opinion, but I like the idea of starting out as a slave and earning your freedom.

But you'd rather start out as an established influence, right? Either a Magister in your own right, or a member of a powerful Altus family?

Me, yes. I like my characters to have a nice past/life.

I can see starting as a slave then rising to power either as a Archon or Magister.after all, you don't have to be a mage to become a magister the system just makes it nearly impossible.

Me too. Slavery would speak horribly about my family line, such incompetence does not inspire (except for the elvhen PC but it is completely different case). I don't want to be a heir to the throne of rags.

Oh that too of course, I want my character to be perfect, from a proper bloodline.

agreed.

It is also why I found it interesting that I ended up setting my origin/prolouge idea in each of the classes.ie one origin in slave, saporati, Laetern, Altus, and ambassador(dwarven).  This is good as it allows for different goals to be created.

an elf who hates slavery might want to lay waste to it, or rise up against it. My altus may wish to reform it but make the tevinter imperium even grand, my leatern elf mage might be interested solely in power. My Saporati might not care and seek to just stregthen the empire.

Those were just random goals. So having more goals is good.

there isn't much story in starting as a magister :P but that doesn't mean you can't start in power, ala human noble winding up as the co-ruler of fereldan. The story of an altus rising to magister to arachon can be compelling.

Well yeah sure, I like to start out young. Not necessary magister but Altus for sure.

There is more to blood magic then just magic gay conversion, which btw you brought up first. I don't see tevinter being ruined because they show blood magic in its power, glory, and horror but they don't include magic gay conversion.

What I picked up from the game was that Dorians father wanted him to play by the book, not necessarily turn him to a straight person. Dorian said he declined of becoming a Magister and founding a family, being a gay person in the side.

I do imagine that at least one background would be a noble of some sort. It is a staple of bioware games, after all So starting as an Altus for one background/origin is kind of something that I would be surprised that bioware did not allow one to play as. I :D

The big question is do you think we would be able to rule Tevinter as an Arachon? This is something I am not entirely sure about though I do hope it is a possibility.

Of course as an altus there are different ways to power, perhaps I want to be the divine instead of Arachon, can the divine be the arachon as well?

Don't think we could be an Archon or the Divine. Unless the story pushes all the characters regardless of background into the position, so it becomes canon.

If the new game is in Tevinter, the new protagonist will stop a Qunari invasion? or the game will be located, as the Dragon age II ? I hope to have access to other places, including Par Vollen.

Well the devs did say they wish to go to Rivain. So it is possible we could go there as well. We do know that the Qun is going to play a bigger role as the devs stated that.

Though when I look at the map of Thedas, the Imperium seems large enough by itself to be the focus for a game.  Though if we go outside of it, the island of Serhone would be good.

I think World of Thedas volume 2 might provide hints here, as we will see the regions of the world beyond the main continent in that book. Of course that is not to come out till spring of next year.

Next game should be about Tevinter defeating and enslaving the Qunari, all the way to Par vollen. And we should play a role in making that possible by finding and using some ancient or new magic.

i dissagree, mostly because tevinter + par vollen would be too much in one game IMO. However, The imperium conquering Serhone or however you spell that island would be a good steping stone to par vollen.

I got to say the continuous dismissal of the Old Gods while highly entertaining isn't overly engaging.

I mean why care about about a bunch of dead dragons?

Even the High Priest of Dumat was like..."If you exist, if you ever ****ing existed, you better ****Ing prove it you reptilian *******!

Also far fetched as hell.

You figure if the Imperium was sitting on a cache of old elven trinkets or alike they would have used them by now.

Or, the Imperium just gathers it resources, hones it army and tactics to counter the qunari and finally wipes them off?
