Who is the guy in the middle of the first picture?  The one with that huge weapon.  What is that?  That is no staff.  I will take that from his cold dead hands and see how crappy your craftsmen are and how close it comes to QUNARI STEEL!

You forgot.

Are pitiful and weak.

Can do nothing without their magic.

Living on borrowed time.

Will look good in their Qunari anti magic colors....those that survive.

:D

Or you will look better with your slave collars during your work in the mines or during the gladiatorial celebrations of your inevitable defeat or better yet during the blood sacrifices.

That is a Mega Staff-Spear! Only those physically strong can wield them in battle and crush and tear enemies with one swing!

Oh im sure they put magical strength spells on him so he can hold that....even with magic he probably can't even use it effectively.  Like everything Tevinter...its for show.  I will use it though....in 1 hand.  Tevinters need magic so they can wipe their arse.

I will always give credit where credit it due....that is one thing about me.  If it is a good weapon I will respect your craftsmen.  Nothing more than them though.

I'm sure Tevinter is awful in a lot of ways but so are Kirkwall, Feraldan, and Orlais, so I'd love to get a better perspective of the place. So I'm not pro-Tevinter because I'm not nationalistic in any sense, but there's gotta be some rad stuff there.

Mostly I wanna know more about how a city functions when magic isn't forbidden. There must be all kinds of productive things you can do. I bet they have magical plumbing! Impossible buildings? I don't know! Crazy stuff.

Magic is the true power, to deny it is to be foolish and ignorant! Just as your slavery to the Qun will be your doom.

Still not convinced? We have this hottie right here 100% Tevinter!

Spoiler

Funny how you bring Dorian up, considering he is an outcast of Tevinter because he disagrees with their ways. He is even called The Redeemer. Why would he be called that if Tevinter was a good place?

Crazy stuff indeed! Feynriel even confirms it in his letter:

Men and women work magic in the street while their slaves look on.

Why would he want to redeem it if it was only terrible though? We have such a biased perspective of Tevinter so far. I don't think its a fabulous place by any means, but there has to be something redeemable there.

I so want to see how magical the place is too, magical lighting, magical transportation who knows!

All places have their dark sides. It's part of what makes those places interesting. As far as Dorian is concerned, I thought it was more of a self-exile sort of thing. He does seem to disagree with parts of Tevinter culture. Which parts though? In any case, it will be interesting to get a perspective on their culture that is not quite so negatively biased (i.e. Andrastian Chantry, Fenris).

Once upon a time, before the slavery and the blood magic, Tevinter could have been a nicer place. Dorian could want it to go back to that time.

Is it biased? Everyone we have met from there was involved in the slave trade and/or blood rituals. The only exception is Fenris, an escaped slave.

No, there is nothing redeemable about the Tevinter government. Not a single thing. The closest you get is them holding off the Qunari, except that it done of of self-preservation rather than helping Thedas. They would try to conquer Thedas if the Qunari wasn't trying to conquer them.

They support slavery. I'd gladly wipe them off of the map given the chance.

I would have, but am far too shy and prefer to lurk. You probably didn't mean me, though.

I have a feeling that Tevinter is going to be a lot less extreme from the way it's depicted by White Chantry propaganda. That said, Avete Imperium Tevinter!

That's right, let the monsters butcher each other. The sociopathic Magisters and the alien Qunari can squander their potential on each other and the rest of Thedas can sit back and laugh at them. Slavers deserve to see all their hopes and ambitions turned to ash.

(Not supporting modern-day human trafficking or anything) Given similar time periods in our history, slaves would likely be a valid and important facet of the economic system. It would not be fair to hold a pseudo-medieval society to modern ethical standards. People equate slavery with racial hate because the more recent (1800s) examples of slavery were primarily racially motivated. Earlier examples like Rome, medieval societies, and the Norse were more focused on prisoners of war and criminals - especially Roman and Norse culture.

But this thread was made to show support for the Tevinter Imperium, not to discuss slavery. Other threads have been locked for lengthy arguments about the topic, and I do not wish to see this one suffer the same fate.

It is perfectly fair to judge the past with modern perspectives. Otherwise nothing would be considered wrong and thus progress or justice would never be made. I won't go into the issue itself, but felt like addressing that point.

This.

So does Orlais.

And when or where did you ever hear me say Orlais was any better?

I plan on having my mage inquisitor use Tevinter style when decorating and building Skyhold. I will rebuild any Tevinter fortresses and the Imperial highway will be rebuilt. I will also reform the Chantry to become more like the Imperial one and if possible ally with the Venatori. For the Imperium. Magic is Might!

I've always enjoyed playing as magic users in RPGs, and Tevinter was one of the main reasons why I became one in the DA universe. As a pro Sith I can respect the cut throat lifestyles of the Magisters and their pursuit of magical research unrestrained by religious dogma draws parallels with the Renaissance and Reformation. Tevinter architecture is amazing a mixture of Roman western and Byzantine eastern. A glorious combination. The robes their nobility wear is impressive and I hope the Inquisitor mage human can wear something similar.

That's not what I'm implying. I merely saying that Tevinter isn't the only nation that practices slavery. I abhor slavery but I understand why they allow it - they need it to maintain their economy after all.
