I went to Orlais, and killed lots and lots of Templars.
Over and over and over and over...

So are Templars better warriors than Chevaliers, all things considered? TME seems a bit like empty hype now that I've read how an embarrassing number of them got bodied by a single alienage elf.
As long as you aren't referring to the bumbling fools in southern Thedas, I can dig that.
"Our southern cousins stumble in the dark. Their false and heretical chantry blinds them. The chant of light is clear on magic. It is the Maker's gift to to the world. The heretics in the south deny this. They teach it is a curse. The gift the maker bestowed upon the world, a curse. The fact that is their logic explains why they are so backwards"

Well you probably didn't even make a dent.
Largest garrison in western thedas after all.
It was home to nearly ten thousand Templars before the war.
How impressive. Any estimate on how many are left after the conclave explosion?

What are you talking about?
One of the weapon descriptions in the game. A single elf capped over 20 Chevaliers.

So, dear Tevinter supporters how do you view Vivienne? Amusement, pity, disgust or admiration?
I needed time to ponder this before I responded.
She's a commendably cunning and talented Mage, despite her unfortunate allegiances.
Also, her taste in fashion is exceptional for an Orlesian.
Bow?
I refuse to believe this had a chance in hell of being melee combat.
No. If you can believe it, it's actually much, much worse than I made it seem initially:
Dagger - Knightslayer
"The most famous elven criminal in Orlais was Alidda of Halamshiral, arrested in 4:45 Black for slaying three Chevaliers. The trail, presided over by Divine Clemence I, revealed that Alidda had slain *twelve* Chevaliers, in retaliation for the "graduation" tradition that sent knights into the slums to attack elves out past curfew. Alidda escaped and killed twenty more Chevaliers, two in single combat, before she was cornered and, to avoid capture, cut her throat with her own daggers."
Well... don't feel too bad Z. When it comes to killing defenseless poor people, I'd still rate the Chevaliers among my top 20.
The Chevaliers never cease to amaze me.
I wish we actually fought a few.The Chevaliers never cease to amaze me.
I was pretty neutral to Tevinter until I went to Orlais. Now I just want Tevinter to wipe them off the map.
::waits for Z to deliberately miss the point::
I wish we actually fought a few.
Or you know even met one besides Gaspard.
Poor Z. There was also Michel.
Not that either of those two did anything useful in game.

Oh so she only killed two in individual combat.
That's not nearly as bad as you made it seem.
Assassins are lethal because they strike when the opponent cannot defend themselves.
Chevaliers are also experts at killing opponents who cannot defend themselves, so you'd think they'd be able to predict and counter such and adversary... at least before the casualties hit 30.
Killing thirty chevaliers as an assassin isn't a demerit against the order anymore then those who fell to Maric's armies during the rebellion.
So in truth all you really confirmed is that the order isn't wrong to butcher elves.
You know, I actually think the picture here is becoming clear. Alidda, the River Dane, the fact that Gaspard would turn to foreign mercenaries for his most critical maneuver in the war... There comes a point where one can only make up so many accolades for killing oppressed minorities.
Mercenaries having a bad rap isn't new.
Nearly every game/fantasy novel reminiscent of human history I can think of has the implication.
Skyrim, Dragon Age, Song of Ice and Fire...
Mercenaries are expected to be just in it for the money, not a country or a Sovereign or a principle, so they aren't equal to warriors with actual causes and such.
Retaking Kirkwall, taking Dernerim, the siege of the Anderfels, the taking of the Dales, the siege of Kont arr.
They have a pretty impressive list of victories.
Aside from Kirkwall, you're attributing victories of the Orlesian Empire to the performance of Chevaliers even when their order is never mentioned in the accounts? One could sooner associate the success of Orlais in the Second Blight in particular with mages (in a time that pre-dates the Circle in Southern Thedas, no less).
Also only Celene dismisses the mercenaries as a slight which is amusing considering her own usage of them.
Gaspard demonstrated he would make use of any and all advantage to obtain his aim, mages, elves, and more.
Why are mercenaries suddenly taboo?
Taboo? You misunderstand. What he intended to do at the Winter Palace would be his largest gambit by far, and yet he would sooner trust its execution to foreign mercenaries over his own peers, the supposed elite of the elite Chevaliers.
