psionics... so boring and creepy

 

Whaaaat? I love psionics, how is it boring and creepy? It's basically the same spell casting, only instead of using the weave psionic use their mind/soul.

I was always a fan of the self, and my ''own'' magic. As opposed to getting magic from deities, or their corpses like in case of Mystra/weave. You walk into a wild/dead magic zone as a wizard, you are screwed, psionics don't care. 

 

Oh and of course also - no somatic, verbal components to psionic spells, can cast while bound and gagged.

not every dnd setting uses the weave, only the Forgotten realms has that. For example eberron doesn't rely on it, nor does Ravenloft or Dark Sun.

 

As for me, I don't mind psionics, I just prefer them in more sci-fi stories. As for the magic, I tend to like different styles of magic, though I do favor ritual and hermetic style of magic.  I do enjoy the mundane utlitty nature of magic in Eberron, though eberron is my one of my favorite dnd setting; though most of my settings I like are not dnd but other systems; Hellfrost(savage worlds) World of darkness old and new, Shadows of Esteren, deadlands.

I've never played mage in Dragon Age ( am about to do one in the Inquisition ), but always took their side in every game , there is some kind of magic that stirs people's minds ? as illusions and etc?

yes and no their are no spells like hex/curse like in the previous installments but the fire, rift, and necro trees have similar spells in their arsenal

Yeah, if you are fighting some scrubs that just discovered that they can do fireworks. Your shield will melt into your spine after I shoot once. 

 

Word. A shield without any specific enchantments isn't going to do s***.

True. But still I just really love psionics for the fact that it comes from the self. Not like arcane spellcasting, when you have to do these specific things in specific order and say something in order to achieve something, but you just fire up whatever you have mastered from self. It's like instead of bending to the world rules, psionics just do things their own way, just because they can, and the thought is very appealing to me.

 

I don't think it has to necessary be sci-fi, it's not like biotics or anything like that. It's the same exact magic, all the same effects that wizards accomplish, only without rituals, by the power of ones own mind.

Even if I enhanced a shield with my most powerful magic against my own spells, it's still only a shield. It's not hard to send a fireball to hit a person from behind, or from the side, or a few fireballs hitting from multiple angles at once, or just a huge flame wall, how will you block that? But this is just fire magic, so many, many different ways to kill off any goon with a ''nice shield'' easily.

Of course, but overall I would say nothing beats the look on their faces when you simply pull the shield from their arm via telekinesis.

That would have been my question next . Had a army buddy who evaded days service by drinking milk with the morning coffee. Sometimes he didn´t make it to toilet.

How could you call me manipulative Do you know how much it hurts to believe in something will all your heart (the Qun) and one of the nicest and most amazing people you've yet to meet hates it and then you try to explain it to them over and over and try to get them just to just give you a chance! Besides, anyone can see your soul...Your weapons are hard to miss. And there they are, quite uncrushed. See? I don't pay attention to everything qunari, but I remember enough to know that one does not allow his "soul" to be so much as tampered with, let alone "crushed". This facade won't work on me.

 

Still, this might lift your spirits. Tell you what, this really belongs on the Qunari sup---Qunari suppo--sup--I can't get it out. That Qunari thread. It should go there. By midday, west coast time. I'm much happier with this piece than I am with it's predecessor, so I think you'll like it. Will that make you feel better?

I think we can both agree that first impressions don't really count for much.  It's the extended interaction that really shapes people.

 

I can neither confirm nor deny the usage of more teary faces are in your future.  I can confirm you messed up royally the other day when you admitted the usage of them was "merciless"  Surely that wouldn't have influenced me on using not  1, but 2 in the same post?  That WOULD be manipulative I think.  Who could really see ME doing that if that is the case?  "No reason at all for little teary face (Seriously, you're killing me with the little teary face. It's merciless)..."  I really am good with words though aren't I? Perhaps a bard in another life.

 

Unlike mages,  I refuse to confine myself to only 1 weapon.  I have a lot of things I will utilize.  Adaptability and evolution are big contributing reasons that Tevinter will burn and survivors will be in their collars.  No matter how tough you are or what you want to allow there will always be certain people or situations capable of putting a "******" in your armor.  Accepting this and trying to improve upon it is the best thing to do.  And "facade"?  I called it a long time ago how good your mind was.  I won't say you're right, but I will say not much gets by you.
