I'm on the mobile.
But it was the conversation where you ask him to describe the Templars and he goes over how they link into "something greater and larger and close themselves off to magic"
Combine that with the WOT entry on lyrium and the implications are...interesting.
Maybe all of the lyrium is interconnected.

They already have magic so they cannot connect to lyrium.
Mages cannot connect to lyrium and that's why they use it to perform and enhance their magic - logic.
Also that's why all the abilities that lyrium grants are carbon copies of mage spells, jut under fancy names.

"carbon copy" is very kind... i prefer the term "pretend"Mages cannot connect to lyrium and that's why they use it to perform and enhance their magic - logic.

They aren't taking it into themselves because they have magic.
It prevents it just as lyrium prevents Templars from doing magic.
Cole explained it.

Mages can ingest lyrium.

That's why mage chug lyrium pots? That's why seekers can torture mages by igniting lyrium in their blood? That's magisters of old that used too much lyrium had physical mutations? Because mages don't take it into themselves?

Lyrium potions are still used by mages in DA:I, see All New Faded for Her, and it's in WoT and the codex, where ingesting lyrium caused magisters to change into grotesque shapes. Mages can, have, still do, and will ingest lyrium.
That's why seekers can torture mages by igniting lyrium in their blood?
>Implying the theory of lyrium vapors is wrong and that mages don't have lyrium naturally in their blood.

I just watched the dialogue in question, and I don't think that's really an accurate interpretation.

Or the lyrium itself doesn't allow them.
There could be many answers.

He implies that's how Templars use lyrium, not how lyrium functions.

If all that makes a mage is natural production of lyrium in the body, which would be mana, then for sure templars can have no abilities that mages do cannot posses and do better.

Could be, it's just my opinion on it.
But there isn't anything else explaing why Templar abilities function as they do or why magi ability falters when it is encountered.
I personally think it has everything to do with lyrium.

He implies that's how Templars use lyrium, not how lyrium functions.
Which is why I also included the lyrium entry from WOT.
I was working the pieces together.
It's interesting conjecture if nothing else.

Mages have the abilities Templars do, so...
Templars don't draw on the same source of power, and reject the source mages use. Templars use lyrium in a different way than mages.

Exactly my point. I've said it before - lyrium makes pseudo mages, the only difference is, mages naturally produce it and are adapt to it, where's other people need to refill or they lose powers and their bodies are also more prone to illness due to it.
A templar could cast say a fireball if wanted to and trained for it, but they specifically choose to study only the anti-magic and mana manipulation schools.

They aren't really pseudo-mages, they reject the Fade entirely using lyrium. They draw power from a different source. They can't manipulate mana, they reject it.
