try "malicious"The section on blood magic, the Imperium, the opening of the fade, all of that blood...its not even of a war so it's worse. Its calculated, meticulous.Blood to achieve an end. It's no different from anything out of the worst bits of history.I'd call it evil but...but that's a word thats too often used, it's lost it's meaning.

Random?
I guess that's a word for it, it happened a lot.
Mmm.
The insurgency presumably did it because it could.
Because that version of islam doesn't honor god properly.
Because those people depended upon us to defend themselves.

Orlais is Tevinter without mages. Same evil, same cruelty, different methods. And Z worships Orlais, figures. And of course he is a war veteran. War veterans should never meddle in politics (see disasters the war veteran leaders wrought in real life). War veterans should retire and get the rest they deserve very much.

*He watches silently as Nazlik flows like water through the training room whirling around and dodging the imaginary adversaries. She moves with the grace of a dancer. Her sabres flash through the air as she executes series of attacks and parrys. Her brow is wrinkled as she pushes herself to the limit of her abilities. Her sweaty body twists and turns defying gravity as her movement amplifies and speeds up. The choreography ends in a massive double strike with the imaginary adversary is being both impaled and decapitated. The grace and finesse of her movement is stunning to look at.
"Come here, take some water" he says as she stands there breathing heavily wiping sweat of her face. "I can´t" she replies, "I have to train, I have to be the best" she continues between the heavy breathing. "I failed you once, I will not let that happen again". She looks at him and pulls a long lock of white hair away from her silver eyes.
"You are the best, remember that even the best one can be surprised" he says.
Nazlik walks reluctantly to him and takes the water. "I have improved your gear. Both the sabres and armor, with the help of our First Enchanter and Lady Artificer, now you are even faster and stronger than the assassin who tried to kill me" he says. "You could even give your father a run for his money too" he continues with a smile.
"It is not funny" she hisses, "You could have died, because of my incompetence". She takes a sip of the water and starts to whirl her sabres again.
"Don´t be too hard on yourself. I know your talent" he says, "and that is why I have decided that you are now the Weapon Master of my house"
She stops twirling and looks at him, "what does that mean?" she wonders.
"That means you are now responsible for the training and armament of the soldiers of our house. Live training dummies for you to knock down. When you are not watching over me" he says smiling.
A sudden knock on the door interrupts them. A guard opens the door, "Master, your torturer is here. He has news". "Send him in" he says.
A bald and scarred man wearing leather west and pants walks to the room. He looks troubled and avoids looking into Ukki´s eyes. "Master, I am really sorry. I have not been able to dig out the information from the prisoner. I apologize so much!" he says with a nervous voice and bows down.
Ukki contemplates this for a moment and then decides, "have them both moved to my summoning chamber, wife to the red table, the assassin to the black one".
"As you wish master" the torturer says relieved and hurries from the room.
"What are you going to do with them?" Nazlik asks.
"I am going to get answers" he says, "I will be back soon".
As he leaves the training room a slave walks by him with a bottle of wine with a card on a tray. "A gift was sent for you master" the slave says bowing down. "Give it to her, I have to leave" he says and bypasses the slave. As he walks down the stairs he feels a bit hesitant of going through this, after Nazlik came to his life he has tried to put these things behind him. But the danger present is too much. Two attempts on his life so close each other is not a coincidence, someone wants him dead, badly. That puts her in danger too, and he would do anything to keep her safe.
Down in the dungeon, in the summoning room he finds the assassin and his wife already brought in. Both are cut and bruised. It is obvious that their spirit has been broken, still, they have defied the interrogation. As he enters the room both of them look at him with fearful eyes. "Please your grace" the man begs with a muffled voice "We do not have the knowledge you seek". As he speaks some of the wounds in his face open and drops of blood start to pour out. Old wounds and signs of torture have been patched up to keep them alive, just barely.
"This is your last change" Ukki says, "speak now or watch her die". The assassin breaks into tears "Please I beg you good lord, please do not harm her. She has no part in this!". Ukki agrees with this in his mind since the information his spy master was able to collect points heavily on this direction. However, it is the information he has what Ukki wants. And she will help him to achieve it. The wife has absent look in her eyes, as she wasn´t completely present.
Ukki goes to the ancient little altar standing between the tables against the wall. Stone carvings of dragons and demons decorate the walls. Light coming from the magical orbs held by dragon claws illuminating the walls make the little chamber look almost alive. The ancient altar stone is pitch-black from the blood spilled on it through out the centuries. A equally ancient copper dagger carved with thousands little runes laying on the altar is strangely clear. The runes on its surface make it repel all the dirt and blood.
With a soft touch he takes the dagger and approaches the assassins wife. With a cold voice he whispers, "last change", from the shadows of his hood. The assassin starts to struggle hard against his chains but in vain. A single never ending high pitch scream erupts from the assassins lips as he sinks the blade slowly in his wife wrist. A clear red blood starts to run from her arm. It pours down a groove carved to the table towards the altar. She doesn´t even blink as she stares him while the light fades from her eyes until her head falls back. The assassins eyes turn around as he faints.
He starts to chant. A strong summoning spell fills the air with presence. Something powerful is on its way. Suddenly a black smoke starts to twirl around the altar like a living being. It grows and expands until it reaches the size of a human. With a silent blow the smoke evaporates and on its place stands a beautiful woman figure, a divine woman looking figure with curly horns and tail. Even Ukki feels the urge to rush to her feet and pledge everlasting love and obedience. He steels his heart and concentrates.
"Demon" he shouts as demon glances around the chamber and stares at the binding circle beneath her feet. "Yes my love?" she purrs with honey dripping voice, "it´s been too long since you last time called me. I started to wonder if you forgot me". The demon looks at him and then suddenly Nazlik stands there, "come my love, let me out of this cage. I will give you so much pleasure. Such that you will not want to let me go ever. Why do you torment me so, do you not love me?".
"Silence!" he shouts, "I have a job for you". The desire demon stays in Nazlik´s form. "So tell me, what is it that you want. You called me here after all", she says with a teasing smile and starts to remove her clothes.
He disregards that, "I command you to go to this man´s memories and find me the name of the person who hired him to kill me. Can you do that before the spell blocking his mind destroys him?". "I can" demon says, "but what is in it for me?". "you can have his soul" he says, "what is left of it afterwards".
"Deal" she says and disappears. Screaming begins.
As he walks up the stairs from the dungeons in his thoughts a slave runs to him horrified look in his eyes, "master! Come quick, it is your mistress, something happened to her! I think she´s dying!". Ukki starts to run.*

Because balance, expect everyone to take gameplay at face value and then say how mages are not that powerful and a regular soldier could defeat them easily, just like they did back in ME with biotics.

funny thing is they were just as powerful if built right, but no we wanted balance. So they take arcane warrior away. Thats cool it was borderline broken, they take away blood mage. I dont like not being the most balanced spec fine whatevs do what you do... but when you recycle the AW into something more brokes and then show magi as weakling overall unless you go KE now i get a problem...Not just those, mundie warriors and rogues want to feel powerful too.

and in any game, that should be the case. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be equal, but that they should all feel powerful, fun and enjoyable in their own right. Keep in mind this is a game, and a game is meant to be fun.

It shouldn't be the case. I am strongly against gameplay balance coming ahead of lore. If by the lore some things are more powerful than the others then that's how it should be in the game. If it makes for an anti-fun game, then don't allow the players a choice to play a watered down version of something that should be more powerful. Dragons are also very powerful creatures, and we are not allowed to play as a Dragon that would be balanced to be no more powerful than a warrior.

Agreed, mages should be as they actually are. Powerhouses which everyone should fear, as the lore says. Balancing everyone actually waters the whole idea of mages and magic. Just looking at the DAI combat makes you think there are four mages fighting instead of one.

*Puts on tinfoil hat* im telling you man its a conspiracy to alienate the mages... the mage plotline, the shoehorned pro circle choices, anti-libitarian demonization. The signs are everywhere
Yeah and not just that, suddenly the qun is a wonderland and even qunari have the balls to frown upon Tevinter. ´Cause mages man. ![]()
