It shouldn't be the case. I am strongly against gameplay balance coming ahead of lore. If by the lore some things are more powerful than the others then that's how it should be in the game. If it makes for an anti-fun game, then don't allow the players a choice to play a watered down version of something that should be more powerful. Dragons are also very powerful creatures, and we are not allowed to play as a Dragon that would be balanced to be no more powerful than a warrior.

It should be balanced but balanced in a way so that way people who play mages, people who play rogues, and people who play warriors have fun. I stated in 'their own way' They should be balanced in a way so that no one class is less fun or less engaging. If I am a playing as a rogue or a warrior, I am not playing a mage, and I want to be enjoying my time as a warrior. Same thing as a rogue, and a mage. Each should be engaging and fun in their own way.

You also have to keep in mind challenge. Lets say that you made mages the default for challenge, then rogues and warriors are playing on nightmare if they are on normal, that can be fun for some but not for others, vice versa it could be annoying to seem like you are playing on normal when your difficult is nightmare as a mage. Hence balance so that way no one class overshadows another.

Considering mages are the least played class and its fans often given the shaft in predominatly "mundane based story" and told various things(possession, blood magic users blah blah). We should get the drawbavks at least if we are already watered and given the shaft...

Least played class? You sure?

But yes, Dragon Age hates all things foreign to the ultimate baddy, the Chantry.

For them to truely implement magi power they would also need to implement the drawbacks and from a game play perspective that would be near impossible to do.

Also they would need to unnerf the templars.

they can do it like shepards dreams at x point. I have other ideas how to do it. And templar nerfing is a traversty imo DAO had the best rep for both temps and magi

Agreed, their presentation of both seemed fair and balanced.

I ain't gonna lie, where's Righteous Strike or it's equivalent?

Other than that Templars are good.

Hmm, it's probably because of the way enemies work now. Still, I'd take their new purge over Righteous Strike any day.

I just want silence back, the inability to stop spell casting is a defeat of the very purpose of being a Templar.

Silence didn't work properly, it stopped any abilities of any classes from being used. I say templars should get a barrier like spell that absorbs a certain amount of damage that comes from spells + absorb magic buffs and debuffs. Silence should be replaced with that mana cleanse thing from DA:O, doesn't have to insta-kill mages though, as in they shouldn't suffer damage in proportion to mana lost, they should just not be able to cast any spells until their mana recharges.

A question: Should an average Mage (or more importantly, an average Templar) be able to sense to magical properties of staves and enchanted items before they actually test them out?

The treatment of this issue in universe seems vague and inconsistent to me.

Surely they should, seeing as how mages interact with staves using their magic, a mundane cannot release those energies, so the mage should feel them in order to interact with it.

PS. Still curious about the reply.

A question about the black city, it is theoretically possible to get there?

I'm just pointing out perhaps the Templars weren't there for no reason at all.
