I think I might have just sent Arti on a journey, if she doesn't remember the question, though not sure why I said it so vague. xD

Anyway the question was:

Why does a magister get this treatment from you? What makes the magisters preferences more important than your own?

I'm just pointing out perhaps the Templars weren't there for no reason at all.

Oh, we already know the reasons why the Templars and mages are running around in the Hinterlands. They're just stupid-ass reasons.

No argument from me.

That said, no big loss either way.

No I remembered, I just had to run off for Christmas Eve stuff.

Also, I'm not sure how satisfying an answer I can provide, since it's lore-ridden and better described while not adopting a persona. Magister > Non-Magister, and especially so in the case of a non-mage. As I understand it, a Mage in the Imperium would be just more prized--more valuable by virtue of their usefulness to the Imperium and also by simply being a Mage--in general, and therefore their interests would be considered a great deal more worth pursuing.

A Soporati who wishes not to end up as another part of a blood magic ritual would be wise to make themselves useful to their social superiors in other ways.

...If alternatively, you're curious how I would defend the concept of acting in the interests of others instead of your own in real world terms (Altruism vs. social Darwinism), I'm not sure I'm prepared. I'd have to study some of what Darrow and other humanist scholars have to say on the matter and think about it for a while...and write a first and second draft...before I'd feel ready to say anything. And even then, sounds like a futile discussion, trying to convince someone with a social "survival of the fittest" mentality that they should care for other people's best interests.

Though now that I think about it, I doubt the second one is what you were asking...But eh, I already typed it all.  :)

About that woman in the Hinterlands whose husband was killed by Templars while he was working in the garden, there was also a chest literally marked "apostate cache" or something like it behind their house, I think I recall.

Not that I think any more kindly of Templars who slaughter a mage at first sight than I do of Templars who slaughter a non-mage.

They are nothing more than a faceless/nameless or generic npc you wouldn't care about anyway.

The only holiday I've heard about is Feast Day...but that's more like April Fools Day than a Solstice thing turned...

Hmm, why haven't I head of a holiday specifically for Andraste?

No, this totally makes sense - fear, self preservation.

But you came across as if you would act for the better of the magisters and not yourself, even if no one would blame you for it, or would never find out.

trying to convince someone with a social "survival of the fittest" mentality that they should care for other people's best interests.

I personally believe that if people actually care for each other and are in agreement about all the main issues and philosophies of life, then that is a much superior type of existence, but alas, that is an extremely rare case, and it cannot always become the case as Jossie believes for example.

Yes. Self preservation is a factor. But a darwinist goes beyond that, and would usually jump at the chance to raise themselves up and make themselves as powerful as possible. You identify as a blue-blooded, pure-bred Tevinter Magister Somniari who has a symbiotic relationship with an ancient and uber powerful hunger demon while I identify as a rogue. who likes gadgets...and is perfectly content in a position of non-leadership.

There is where we veer apart a little. I agree being on good terms with someone is much easier when you agree. I could, however, care deeply about someone who sees even major aspects of the world differently from how I see them.

Since we're using character examples, I'll bring up Cassandra Pentaghast the magnificent again.  ^_^

I agree with her about basically nothing. I loathe the chantry. I generally abhor the Templar order and I think she would be much happier not dealing with the nonsense politics that come with sitting on the sunburst throne.

Also, I do like dresses and I don't like Gaspard as a choice for Emperor.

And  I still adore Cassandra.

Well, one must have their comfort, there are so many things people consider worse than death, and it's different for all - poverty, being a cripple, being a slave, etc.

And if it's acceptable to hurt and kill for the preservation of life, then it's twice more acceptable to do so for the comfort without which life would not be welcomed anyway.

Ehh, to me sounds like a masochistic vibe. xD

Respect people that you don't agree with? Sure. Admire their fine qualities? Often wise, and helps with strive for improvement. Caring for them? Nah..

But hey fair enough, and thx for the answer.  ^_^

You're welcome. I'm not going to lie but I'm disappointed there are only five holidays in the entire continent with various races and cultures.

Alrighty then, if you guys would like a celebration we shall make one. It will be a sign to the chantry that we do not need religion to dictate events that are special to us. I invite everyone to my humble glorious castle. Best food and drinks, implacable service, music, dances, theater, good company,.. lyriumd ehem. So come, put on your best attire, and enjoy the night!

Well, aside from the people who died I guess.

It's the mages who unleashed the chaos and let loose the events to follow.

It's a pity so many died but it's also arguing the inevitability of their greed to think it could have been another way.

I know you're opinion on it.

If you want to simplify it to make a point, ok.

I know you're opinion on it.

I'm not so sure.
