No, this totally makes sense - fear, self preservation.
But you came across as if you would act for the better of the magisters and not yourself, even if no one would blame you for it, or would never find out.
Yes. Self preservation is a factor. But a darwinist goes beyond that, and would usually jump at the chance to raise themselves up and make themselves as powerful as possible. You identify as a blue-blooded, pure-bred Tevinter Magister Somniari who has a symbiotic relationship with an ancient and uber powerful hunger demon while I identify as a rogue. who likes gadgets...and is perfectly content in a position of non-leadership.
I personally believe that if people actually care for each other and are in agreement about all the main issues and philosophies of life, then that is a much superior type of existence, but alas, that is an extremely rare case, and it cannot always become the case as Jossie believes for example.
There is where we veer apart a little. I agree being on good terms with someone is much easier when you agree. I could, however, care deeply about someone who sees even major aspects of the world differently from how I see them.
Since we're using character examples, I'll bring up Cassandra Pentaghast the magnificent again.
I agree with her about basically nothing. I loathe the chantry. I generally abhor the Templar order and I think she would be much happier not dealing with the nonsense politics that come with sitting on the sunburst throne.
Also, I do like dresses and I don't like Gaspard as a choice for Emperor.
And I still adore Cassandra.
