Uh wouldn't a Templar just disrupt nearby magic if the mage got that close?
I'm going by how Templars work in the book. They were able to summon a protective aura with a coverage of their immediate person. Disruption a mage's ability to manipulate mana required some form of physical contact.

Should have reached maturity in the 60s; it seems that I am misplaced.

Asunder. Dragon Age Inquisition has some more cutscenes of Templars nullifying persistent magical effects from a distance (the Breach, the barrier at Therinfal), but the only case of a mage being silenced from a distance was in a cutscene from DA2, involving Meredith and a Saarebas.

Its not distance per say, at the redoubt Templars channel their powers to Barris to dispel the barrier and he is in contact with barrier. At the breach they do the same to Inquisitor who doesn't need to be in contact, the green beam does that.
But its true that Templars cannot throw ant-magic blasts from a range, they cannot summon magic from thin air. The holy smite at DAO for example was a big fat lie to make Templar spec better, its very lacking before the smite in comparison to other warrior specs anyhow. In the lore their abilities are limited to close range and physical contact. I think this also includes the in-game scenes such was what Meredith did to Saarebas. She stopped his cast with stabbing him, whether the stabbing stopped it or she did something before stabbing was not shown but she had to be pretty close nonetheless.

How can you say for certain that the King of Pago Pago opposes mage freedom?
How can you presume to argue for the future of the free world when Orangutans and Koala Bears seek to destroy us?

So...you dismiss it being ranged despite it being shown as ranged.
Alright then.
Because to my knowledge it was never implied to be restricted by physical contact.
Because no Templar ever made physical contact to disrupt spells, not even the dwarf who stopped that emissary fireball.
Because you know, it stopped.

Because that's the only way it ever worked in the book David Gaider wrote? Or Templars never silencing mages from a distance even when it would greatly benefit them to do so?
Why would Lord Seeker Lambert himself have to close distance on a mage if he could have just stopped the spellcasting at any time, regardless of his position.
Because no Templar ever made physical contact to disrupt spells, not even the dwarf who stopped that emissary fireball.
Because you know, it stopped.
What part of the book was that?
