Tevinter had Dragons. As said in the Fall of Arlathan, the Tevinters unleashed Demons, Blood Magic and even Dragons upon the Elves. Remember the blood magic ritual that allowed a little girl to control High Dragons in Dawn of the Seeker? I imagine the Tevinters were the ones who promoted this ability. The Tevinters worshipped the Old Gods the mightiest of Dragon kind, I imagine the Old Gods could compel their 'lesser' brethren to obey the Magisters.

However, with Dragons on the rise again, it maybe be possible to control some. Yavvanna could speak with and command a High Dragon and the Enemies of Thedas video showed the Inquisitor approaching a High Dragon peacefully.

Tevinter even pwns in the exotic mounts department.
Giant Scorpions, Battle Drakes, and War Elephants. Oh my!
Only the Wardens can hang with their Griffons. Orlesian War Kittens would probably flee battle at the sight of a ball of yarn... Or a Mabari.

Responsible Blood Magic
Let me correct you, apprentice. While it is true that blood magic is woven through the history of Tevinter, there are good reasons, quite aside from the Chantry's sermons, that such arts are now frowned upon. Consider the ancient magisters who once attempted to map the Fade itself. A worthy goal, perhaps, but a costly one. When their spells exhausted their lyrium supply, the magisters spilled the blood of countless slaves. To what end? The shifting nature of the Fade made the effort futile, and so much death left the magisters open to possession by demons. Wasteful!
Some still idolize Tirena of the Rock, who used blood magic against the Qunari during the Steel Age. They say she cut her flesh on the shore of Marnas Pell as the dreadnoughts sailed in, turned her spells against their crews, and boiled the very blood in their veins. A terrifying display, to be sure, but against Qunari? It only made them more determined when they besieged the ports of Carastes.
And what of Magister Calanthus, that fool who believed he could make himself the "Ascended Man" with blood magic? Thirty-three slaves died in that rite, and Calanthus became an abomination so horrific that his apprentices tore out their eyes at the sight of him.
You quote the example of the lovers Crescens and Seraphinian. Yes, Seraphinian offered his own blood to cure Crescens of her wasting disease, and Crescens lived a long life. But if the noblest use of blood magic still calls for the death of a good man, is that not enough reason to reconsider?
-Letter from Magister Aesthia to her apprentice, 7:71 Storm (WoT, p. 109)
Blood Magic is unnecessary. It is for fools or the desperate. Tevinter has no need for it. It may be good to know of it and how it works, but an experienced mage should have no need to resort to it.
Good tool but it needs a steady hand to use it. Not for the weaklings but only for the best of Magisters.

Out of curiosity, do we genuinely get to ride giant scorpions! And I thought a giant war nug was bad ass.
I do hope so, that would boost the exotic level for mounts.

I honor the Tevinter Imperium and it'd be very intrensting to be there in future DA games, but I HATE Tevinters!
Sending their blood mages to around all of Thedas to capture innocent pepole into slavery, like what happend in Denerim Alienage in DA:O which is sad on getting money on inncont lifes. they are honor hunters, they do bad name to ALL mages in the world, for the hell they need to attack the Qunari? For what the hell they need all of this slavery? As much as I'd want mage freedom (My main char is gonna be a mage) The Tevinters are doing it a bad name, using "mage freedom" but putting those who arent mages to being second class citizens. now to the other side of view, they are the most powerful nation in the northen thedas, they have the best alliance with the dwarves, their culture is amazing, their history is amazing too. I want to be there in DA4 or any future game, but I dont want to destroy it or burn it to the ground, I want to make it a better place for both mages and non- magic users and for any race to live in, let them put a good mage freedom, and make them to not use it in a negative power hunting way. LONG LIVE THE NEW TEVINTER, the equalist one, I hope we'll get the chance to do such a think!

Tevinter needs slavery because without it the tevinter economy would fall apart. That's how dependant on slavery it's become. Think about the slaves Isabella set free. They were worth 100 soverigns a person.

It is no wonder that Tevinter has gotten their ass beaten on the open field so many times, if their soldiers are stupid enough to sit on the back of a scorpion.... That takes a special kind of idiot...

So at worst Tevinter is only up 4 to 2 then? Not bad, especially considering the former you mentioned still failed in the end and the latter didn't even try for anything beyond one city.
Seems from my perspective that Tevinter loves exalted marches. What with the slaves being nice enough to deliver themselves instead of making the magisters have to go out to get them.
