Oh.

One is flashy impractical bull**** and the other is less popular flashy impractical bull****.

Nope :>

LDS is a strictly military style and it's going extinct.

I was taught that by my uncle who learned it off a NATO instructor long before I got HTHD down in the army.

That's the difference.

I can kill you in thirteen separate holds.

Latter-day Saints?

Line Defensive System.

It's a martial style developed for military use.

It's the one American Marines and Special Forces were taught a few decades ago.

The Marines based their newer system off of it, and they updated it a few years ago.

Yes, well, Ansatsuken is a fictional derivative of Shotokan Karate, which involves a healthy amount of grappling, throws, and submission holds.

Of course, with magic at their disposal I'd imagine a person would primarily focus on making decisive and disabling strikes. Attempting to deliver a flying knee to a Qunari sounds, on paper, obviously impractical and flamboyant, but the idea of a human grappling with a Qunari or placing one in a submission hold is no less so.

Of course, I'd be producing the former scenario in a proper context that makes use of the fictional elements within the Dragon Age world. Under the cover of the Warriors' signature heavy fog, the individual would Fade Step in, deliver a flying knee as a way to both clear the vertical distance to the Sten's head, and also kill it in a single strike (utilizing rock armor + physical enhancement with magic), and then Fade Step out before the rest of the Sten's squad can react. Alternatively, he might also use a throat punch, but, you know, Tiger Knee. Acceptable use of Rule of Cool within this context.

Given this specific situation (The target is a Sten in the middle of his squad giving commands), and the presence of magic that would allow a martial artist in DA to perform feats impossible in real life, I think a massive strike would be preferable to a grapple or submission hold.

*Come to see me in the tower chamber* note said, nothing more.

This note had not been on his study´s table an hour ago, of that he was sure. Someone had sneaked in to drop it. He could see it was written by Nazlik, unless it was a good forgery that is. As he walked up the stairs there was no hesitation, just grim determination. He had been looking for her for the past two days, there had been no sign of her. It was like she had disappeared from the face of the Thedas. No one had seen or heard of her, and as the second evening got late and sun went down he started to feel worried. If someone had done something to her then they better have the maker at their side. His vengeance would be terrible.

As he approached the tower chamber the first thing he noticed was the open door, and darkness behind it in the room. "So, someone is waiting for me" he thought, "I will play your game for now. If shes hurt pray the maker to have mercy on your soul". Without hesitation he walked right in. After he had taken few steps into the room he stopped. Everything looked peaceful, there seemed to be no one present. "I am here" he said sharply gazing at the shadows of the room. For a moment nothing happened. Then the door behind him slammed shut with a loud bang.

As he turned around he was able to catch a glimpse of figure moving fast in the shadows. A dagger flew at him bouncing off his magical shield. A arc of lightning flew from his hand and stroke at the fast moving character. The person was too fast and the lightning hit the furniture sending wooden splinters flying in the air. As he turned to follow the fast moving person he let loose a volley of lightning arcs which hit the the room with dazzling and deafening pace sending more furniture parts in the air accompanied with thick smoke as the wall canvasses started to burn.
Despite his effort the person whirled through the room throwing random decorative items at him. He switched his tactics and started to place glyphs around the room to capture this person as he used different elements on his attack spells to throw the attacker of balance. The attacker skirted around his glyphs and evaded his spells gracefully. The flickering magical light from his attacks and smoke in the dark room prevented him from seeing the attacker well enough, but it was evident that the person was a woman. He decided to put a stop to this chaos and cast a small fireball on the center of the room despite the danger of fire. As the fireball exploded the shock wave threw the attacker against the wall. As she stumbled up he got a glimpse of delicate horns and long silver hair. "Nazlik?" he gasped stunned.

With a one swift move Nazlik threw one of her sabres at him. The highly runed sabre penetrated his magical shield shattering it to pieces. As the sabre had barely left her hand she jumped in the air with a high pitch scream and kicked him in the chest with both of her feet. He stumbled backwards and tumbled in his bed behind him. She followed him closely by jumping high in the air and landing astride above him. Her second sabre landed on his throat as she bent down breathing heavily to gaze on his face close up. The vitaar on her face made her look wild. "Why are you doing this? he whispered totally puzzled giving up his resistance.

Nazlik bent down and bit his lip. He gasped lightly as blood started to flow from his lip. "Kadan, you will have a imekari" she whispered looking into his eyes then kissed him passionately.*

Not even close to true; you must have missed his heel runs in WWF and WCW.

*snip*

That post was just not one of my better moments.  :?

Fair enough. Admittedly, I came in late. I had watched old matches on youtube, but I didn't see Bret monologue until after it stopped being WWF and became WWE. So I knew he was amazing to watch in the ring, but the times I saw him on mic, he had trouble getting into the swing.
