waste of coin just to use slaves for that purpose

Nah, not at all. The trick is to use people that are not content with being slaves, like the above mentioned Qunari for example. There are a lot of enemies Tevinter has, you don't really need to sacrifice your own citizens.

sounds very morally reprehensable to use POWs and research ethics

Ya, just research on already infected people from the Anderfels... for science!

Edit: They are already doomed, they can use their tragedy to help better the world!

Of course, the Imperial Chantry will have no knowledge of these activities... so we can deny any involvement, of course...

Edit: Ugh... I can already feel myself being corrupted, I am not surprised the black Divine used blood magic at some point, it is just so tempting here! Help me Monkey, you seem to be more resistant to the unrestrained desire for power!

Guys imagine this, what if say you study magic and the taint enough, then find the next archdemon, perform a specific ritual ( reference to dark ritual ) and let a ''Grey warden'' ( not really a grey warden, just a taint magister ) Tevinter magister slay the archdemon. Then the soul of the archdemon travels into the mage, but instead of dying the mage takes over the archdemon essence and suddenly Tevinter has control over all darkspawn, as they hear the magisters calling! All nations would fall pretty quick after that. What if eh?

I want Tevinter to be the catalyst for Thedas' enlightenment period if they ever have one.

Well, it sounds like a quick way to end the Blights... but the issue of the taint is still that it kills life. Unless you want to go with the Architect's plan to turn everyone into super ghouls, I don't see how the taint can be tolerated longer than it needs to be (referring to the Grey Wardens).

Maybe if we try to harness more logical means of power... perhaps combine the knowledge of devices and machines from the heathens of the north with our brilliant magic will give us the power we seek over our misguided brethren to the south.

It's ok, the chantry will fall anyway at one point, once the results will be so great that the people in charge will have more power than the black divine.

No, no pls DO give in. Let blood magic serve you well.

Remember Avernus wanted to refine the ritual to not have people die, but still get the power of the taint? Yeah, need to work on that.

Edit: Also blood magic! Remember how old Avernus was?

Ah, I see, get rid of the evil blighty part of the tain, but why lose/waste any possible good that can come from it? Let it not all be in vain, eh?

What can we learn about Thedosian metaphysics from the taint? How is it like the Fade? What is the Fade in relation to the taint? What is magic, if it is not limited to the Fade and blood?

No, of course you can get the whole package and still sustain yourself with blood magic to not die from the taint. Just that the initial ritual might kill off quite a few straight off the bat. So that one is for the most brave.

Well, KainD, you should start with finding the research journals of Avernus and First Enchanter Remille (the First Enchanter of Fereldan before Irving), those would be a good start.

Really, Tevinter should hunt for that information that Remille had, he was able to create enchantments that manipulated the taint, either speeding it up or resisting it. He was even able to use blight magic by making that cold, dark, shadowy spell that consumed his victims, and he wasn't even a ghoul as far as I know/remember. Does one even need to be tainted to use this magic? Does the taint need to have physical manifestations in Thedas to have such magic exist?

While the darkspawn are "new," maybe the taint did not originate with the first darkspawn, maybe it was always deep in the world and the first darkspawn, the ancient magisters, were just cast into it from the Fade to be consumed by it? Maybe the taint as we know it is a corruption of something more primordial deep in the world, like how red lyrium seems to be a corruption of blue lyrium?

The Inquisition will hopefully shed some more light on this after their assault on the Grey Wardens as was seen in a trailer.

heres how i keep my moral center: think of the mundanes and why the fear magi, think of that pretty redheaded elf girl(or guy whatever you fancy being general) think of others.. every action has a reaction, every inaction has a action.
Hope that helps. My problem is my usage rather study of BM i can do but choose not too simple

This seems to be the popular theory that the taint was in the golden city and the magisters accidentally released it unto the world. Alas until we have DAI who knows. What horrors awaits us in the Black City I wonder...

I think we will go there considering that this is a heavy Fade theme game.

I think I want to support Tevinter for the reasons no one cares about. I'm interested in Hessarian and their Chantry differences. lol

The magisters can go screw themselves though. Social darwinism sucks.

Hessarian was a fool. It is because of him that we are stuck with this wretched chantry in Tevinter along with the cult of the maker. As a magister I support The Old Gods, whom without Tevinter would never have risen. Silence has fallen upon us for we have turned our back on our lord.

We will crush the cow scum and reclaim the south, but not until our devotion is brought back to Dumat's grace. When silence returns to our great imperium chaos shall again be quieted, flames and chains will power our conquest. Beauty will again make himself known to this ugly world. Mystery will be revealed and when night comes, Silence will blanket our great Imperium.

Return to the true ways brothers. The old ways. They are not the old gods, such titles are beneath them and it implies fallibility and a chantry driven propaganda. They simply are the gods. Re open the temples and lets start by sacrificing 1000 qunari in a great blood ritual to Dumat. Our slaves have been loyal of late, waste not. Andoral still keeps his chains tightly in place we have been to blind to see.
