From a cultural standpoint(black american) so i have a natrual aversion to the very concept. But i do understand the "idea" of slavery thats in tevinter as its by some defination of indentured servitude so im not as iffy bought it since its "consenting"

I'm also black, so I know why that concept could be a little extreme for us. I just want to see it with my own eyes, but I got a little glimpse of it in Origins. I really didn't like that they was locked up in the cage, but I really don't like letting the dark and gritty of the game affecting me so much. Especially looking at movies like Django or any old time movies.

I'll take Tevinter at what it is, and not how it reflects back into my own life. I would strongly appreciate the return of the dark and gritty from Origins.

Let's hope that the North/Next game will offer up more dark and gritty things than Inquisition did.

OT: How did you feel about the dark skin tone in Inquisition?

We better qun took a big hit least they can do is give us a grittier setting not GOT status but gritty

Its better barris looks black as does viv but the inq does feel somewhat black-faced still but its getting better

If the DA cleanup doesn´t change it´s course we might end up with sanitized version of both Tevinter and Qun. Such a shame though.

Interesting. I think the fact that you are American( I suppose) has a greater impact. Where I currently live also had a violent slavery and we learn about it on the school, is part of history of the country. It will be interesting to see how this weill be handled,if the slaves actually accept their position or not, if the owners of slaves mingle with them or not. I'm anxious to see if the reports are true or not, maybe it's just isolated cases and do not have a verdict.

I loved the DAO alienage and dwarf castless origins for the specific reason them being the close equalent of slave. Especially the dwarven beginning where you run around talking to people and Leske will have to bail you out of you start mouthing at your "betters", it really gives the worthless feeling quite well. As a finn though I also know our history of being second class citizens in our own country for centuries, but I still love to play it in games.

At least in a video game, even when we played as a lower class of society or something being the close equivalent of slave. We still can mercilessly slaughter our "betters" for treating us like a dirt. I don't live in the U.S., but where I lived slavery used to exist but it was abolished, and we still learn about it in the school. I understand how bad it is when you're being second class citizens or treated like cattle in your own country for centuries. As Red has pointed out, it'll be interesting to see how BioWare handles this, should they give us the position of power when we're in the Imperium.

In a way the dwarven casteless origin was better than the elven alieanage in that regard. You couldn´t really stand up against the "better people", Leske would bail you out of the sticky situation. Not until the very end and that was "only" against your crime boss. I really liked that since there was this feeling of being hopelessly the underdog. One thing would have been a cool add to it, if you could have decided to fight against guards you would have ended up being overwhelmed by guards in a never ending guard respawn with increasing numbers until your death. If Bio can come up with something similar then -> sold.

I like this idea of playing with a second-class character, gives you a wider view of the situation. I did not know there was slavery in Thailand, was a long time?

It was a very long time ago, there was slavery in Siam (Thailand) since the ancient time, during Ayutthaya period there were 7 types of slaves. If I remember every detail correctly many slaves are war captives from Burma (Myanmar) and Cambodia or mountain tribes, some are prisoner who couldn't afford to pay for their fine, and when someone help them they have to sell themselves into their servitude temporary. Interesting enough, there are people who's poor and couldn't afford to find a job, they would sell themselves into servitude to save themselves from starvation because the master can take care of them, but most slaves are from the lower class, poor people who sold their family or even themselves when they couldn't afford to pay the debt or feed their own family.

It doesn't matter anymore, though, since slavery was abolished in 1905 during King Rama V reign. We still learn about slavery in our history class, and they taught us how bad it was, and tbh people here have a very strong feeling against slavery.  ;)

I hope I have not offended you, I do not know if you know, but here in the West we know very little about the east.

Offended me? Oh, you haven't, buddy. That was a very long time ago, and slavery is unacceptable in most places nowadays. I was glad that someone asks about this so I can do my best to inform people who's curious about it. I'm just glad that no one saw my country in the bad light.  :D

not directly but its caste system from a perspective implies some variant of servatude or subjugation.

o.o

I thought up a better way i do believe to kill the Archon then a mere public killing in some arena.

Not as dramatic admittedly as tossing his lifeless corpse to the dirt below and watching the stunned faces of the entire Imperium.

But infinitely more enjoyable.
