I know, Red. I wasn't trying to offend anyone, and in the end, it's just a game.
Well, I serve the Imperium and their army in my own way, but even I wouldn't deny our weakness or overlook the Qunari's strength. I believe there is wisdom in understanding your enemy as it's the key to victory, and one should never underestimate his enemy.
Aye, but I like to think of myself as a voice of dissent in the Imperium though. They are resource, asset, but they must be used wisely and calculated, I don't think it wise if we always treat them like cannon fodder and throw them away needlessly. After all the Imperium's might are composed from a vast number of mundane, but I heed your advice a military or lower class uprising. I do believe that we can be harsh and at the same time (not too) generous with our people.
Exactly. That's right.
Let's make an imaginative exercise?
If we consider all that we know of Tevinter until then, is a decadent society, but still with a military power that holds its edges. The power is held by only a few individuals. Magi in general. And the rest of the population we do not have much information, but are suppose to be happy with the kind of government sometimes.
As I said before, the military is still strong and is likely to have a structure governed, to keep them in line and effective. It Works.
Then the Qunaris appear with their firearms. Let's consider what you said, The mages reject the weapons and only drains soldiers will use. If the weapons are effective against the Qunaris own, the Tevinter army will be much stronger and will pull them back. If guns are also effective against mages, the military will start thinking.
''Why should I listen to this guy? We are winning the battle without magic.''
So we have a leader (a general who won several battles against the Qunaris with weapons and not magic) with troops ready to die for him.
A coup, fast, they will simply take over the government and worse, and if they ally with southern Chantry? to put the North in the ''line'' once and for all. It would be a good support. Of course we have the Chantry of the north that would be against it and depends largely on White Divine, if they were willing to help him up with an Exalted March in exchange for influence in the north.... I think the Black Divine would not have much to do but appeal to the people.
In response, the rebels could promise the end of slavery and the slave can support, which is not much, but would ensure social turmoil.
Obvious, I'm wrong. I am considering military dictatorships that I saw.
In general, I think a weapon that can ''beat'' the magicians and do not need '' a lot of training'' would be very dangerous to the state.
